This only occurs on this forum site...

Anytime I make a post that goes long enough to require a scroll bar in the message text, my message will "snap" back to the top with every character typed. No matter how much I put the scroll bar to the bottom, press delete at the end of the message to get rid of extra lines, or toggle scroll lock, the problem persists.

It's particularly annoying because I can't see what I'm writing if the text is any longer than, say, this message.

That's called IE8, use Mozilla, nub.

(No really, IE8 did the same for me, hence why I'm already happily married with Mozilla for at least a year now).

Arg, now I have to try it to see the effect.
We use a standard SMF installation, and from my webdev experience I can't really think of a reason why IE8 would behave like that.

I blamed it on a IE8 Beta bug which apparantly is still present.

It's a confirmed IE8 Bug. Also present in WordPress and a few other things.
The idea is that the textarea changes its height/width to accomodate more text.
Obviously that fails for IE8.
A quick work-around is to add the PS forums to the 'render as IE7' compatibility mode.
I'll see if I can edit the template files. I'm not really fond of changing them, because they might get changed with the next update.

Ah ok.

Just seemed odd because this is the only message board that I visit that does this.

Yep.  Same here.  My comp has some problems with Mozilla so I have to use IE8.  Making long posts can just piss me off sometimes.  It's like those typing lesson classes from high school.  It covers what you are typing, then you scroll down to see what you wrote and BAM!  A damn typo or two.  Grinds my gears.   Cheesy

(Actually, this may give me an excuse to type ridiculous messages to people.  I may finally have the ability to tell Agent that his Cheezits taste like pickle plumb poop - then I say it was IE8's fault.  It changes what you write while it's covering it up to make you look like a fool!)
