Multiple beta idea

Most of you have probley heard of minecraft and just last november it was released. while it was'nt finished yet the devolpers made multiple updates for the beta changing it dramaticly each time if project stealth was put as a beta v1 would it be possible for it to be updated by people simply removing v1 and replace it with v2 each time a update came out.
