I don't know much about 3d modeling but it looks nice.  I do really want to pull that blue handle and let the air out though  ;D

You gonna put some textures on that balloon? Cause it looks nice now, but I want to know if you're going to put something comically inappropriate on it. ;)

Are you making this for something, or was this just for poops and giggles?

why da hell is the column red :/....... last time i checked they were just stone masses  :|.

@ the hot air balloon idea , I love it and that would be epic if the spies could escape in that :D, just for the arguement maybe make it bullet proof xP with bullet proof glass panels shaped like squares all the way around the entire surface of the balloon :P

It's red for the same reason \/\/\/\/\/\/\/ isn't... whatever color you imagine stone masses to be.

You know what's funny? :) The only person that actually agrees with you is my Dad xD. Ye I guess the colors might be a little too agressive I'll tell Haxiorek to take care of that since he's the author of the new texture. I have still no clue about texturing.

Baloon looks great, now what you need to do, is either add another ring like the one you got at the bottom and move it all the way to the middle of your baloon so it looks like it can actually be functional, or delete the one on the very end and add it to the half-way between the middle of the ball shape and the end point.

(https://community.projectstealthgame.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg600.imageshack.us%2Fimg600%2F6731%2Fballooon1.jpg&hash=b4659cd170a41c5ed88bcf44e664e460bba274ff)

You do realise that placing there another ring won't change anything in functionality...

ye you're right it's pretty darn different... Dude what you showed does not change the FUNCTIONALITY. It change just the look of it. Unlike you I read how the baloon works and that does not change it at all.
Title: Re: First steps at modelling in 3Ds Max
Post by: DreadStunLock on July 19, 2011, 03:28:24 AM
Except your image doesn't look anything like the one on your 3Ds.

And the little red line I added on your model through photoshop, makes it more believable, cause believe it or not, that's what all of the old hot air baloons look like, if you have good observation.

I just relized, that if you click & drag the picture into the white space next to it, while it "hangs on the cursor", it becomes much clearer.

I removed some of the less then stellar posts that popped up. Don't ruin a thread full of potential with a page of picking on Agent!

As for your idea Meister... it didn't work well for me. It just gave a hazy version of it that was just as bad. I'd still prefer a new picture with a more appropriate background color.

Adding more light on it definitely is showing it off more, but I'd still say that you should (instead of adding more lights than the first picture) change the background color from black to a grey or something. So much light seems to be degrading your work, rather than enhancing.

It's just the fact that you're trying to show a black gun on a black background. Blends faaaar too much. It's like trying to read this text... (There's text to the left of this)

Try to experiment a bit with colors and blending modes, if possible. You can get smoke, water, ice and so on with just a few minor changes.

I think he doesn't mean the character itself, but more the way it is portrayed, with a nice background and so on.

lol stop complaining about the presentation. The way it is, is enough. Making it more fancy would only be necessary if it's realeased for a new game. This, uhhmmm let's call it "gate", will be possibly released for "rocadamur" (sry if spelled wrong) ............. i think. There you get your "awesome presentation".... probably....

oh and lol @ edits... again at it, dread? nice going farley, although i have no clue what you did write.

What is with all the low poly under detailed models? Maybe if you have only used 3ds max for a week then I can understand that but if you really thing that Protoss Cannon is high poly....I wonder what a low poly would be :P....I dont like to criticize but I thought project stealth had some standards.

So what led you to the assumption that it's a proffesional work for PS? Don't answer, silence will be more welcome.

Not bad. Add some normals for the grating and maybe a specular/gloss map and you're done. (lower texture density of the handlebars)

The bigger problem is that i have issues with lighting, even when i add the 2nd uv channel and have no overlapped or inverted pieces.I'm more concerned on it than on normal/specular because i have no probs with creating them.

Hym quite interesting approach. Does it show in your mind whenever you see an electric box? Have you considered consulting someone on that? Just curious...

I once had a therapist for these urges, but then I bombed him too.

(Btw guys, this is my last post in forever.  Well, almost forever.  First one to spot my 5000 post gets a prize!)

Ok, so this big piece on the right is an unwrap of a roof (shaped like a cone). Any ideas how to texture it with a roof tiles texture so that it perfectly fits the shape?(Photoshop users)

us layers and erase tool, it will be your best weapon.
