Title: I suggest a change
Post by: Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet on February 22, 2011, 03:58:04 PM
Apparently all the good posters except maybe a couple old-timers are gone
(Agent excluded, he always gets emotional and gets trolled).
Everyone turned into a spammer, spamming and spamming
and spamming useless crap all over the board.

Getting to actual content is harder than before, and so I suggest appointing
a mod or two who would extract all the useful content into a separate,
read-only portion of the forum,

Also, people should begin to get banned, or at least silenced. Dimmy was banned several times,
always for being agressive. Is spamming not being agressive towards the reader?
It certainly is, as I see it.
Therefore, I believe the best course of action is to keep to a small rule:
"If your post is not relevant to the topic, you get your posting rights taken form you for 24-48 hours"
Notice I said "relevant to the topic", not "to any of the previous posts".
This forces every post has to be kept on track, discussing a given problem/ option or issue, without having all the "he said she said/ it's his fault/ she started" emotional bullshit.
If you want to discuss matters personally/ feel offended because of a post, take it to PMs.

I dearly cling to the idea that somebody (frvge) will decide to bring this to life and the forum will become
easy-to-use again.

What exactly made you start this topic?

I'll take it in consideration. If approved, we'll have to think of a way to choose the mod(s).

I think quoting someone should get rid of all pictures in what is quoted.

I abuse it faaaar too much, and it's unintentionally done far too many times also.

;D

I'm sick of being mentioned as if im some douchebag that wandered around the forums looking for someone to fight with... leavbe me out of it or get the facts!!

I actually agree, I think it's weird that you came back on so many fake accounts, but at the end of the day you were just defending yourself against nerds ganging up on you, trying to be cool :P

You are responsible for your past actions. You should take it like a man instead of whinning.

Succubus should be banned right away then because this is not in the "About Our Site" section.

I keed, i keed.

But seriously, the mods are far to lax to ever implement something like this.

B1nArY_001 just got semi-global modship. Yay for him.

If needed, we'll see about picking a member from the community later.

I suggest banning OP for suggesting more mods and more banning.

If you don't agree/like someone's posts, then don't read them.

Moderating posts to keep threads "on track" just blocks the free-flow of information and ideas, which is the opposite of what forums are supposed to do. If you don't like where the conversation turned, then make a post to divert it back, or just stop reading the thread.

See the common theme? You don't need a mod to help you click away from a thread. You can do that all by yourself.

Besides, all the useful things for PS were talked about like 4 years ago. The game hasn't come out, and there's only a finite number of things you can speculate about before you go into the realm of complete silliness. If that's your real concern, you might as well shutdown the PS forums until the game actually comes out.

Diverting the posts to a new topic or a new conversation is a bad idea. The reason is because most or some of the thread creators will whine and dine how their thread died and now has been hi-jacked, so it's best to leave to the moderatores or admins to resolve the issue or check if it's "ok" to start a new topic that is partially or somewhat relevant to the previous discussion.

But here is an idea to think or discuss about: Why not allow the thread creator to put a big--ish bar after the discussion of the main thread is over and be able to put a title of the new discussion so people know what the hell is the new discussion is about? Also Frvge, you can make it so it's not so abused by putting requirement of how many posts is needed to start a new discussion.

He said diverting the posts back to the original topic.  The OP's would be glad to see people help their thread get back on the right track.

"Fuck it, we'll do it live!" said Bill O'Reilly. A new moderator was then added to the forums. With great vengeance and furious anger, Bill O'Reilly then exclaimed, "Fuckin' thing sucks!"

The moderator took offence to this action immediately and shouted, "I don't remember asking you a god damn thing." In a fit of rage, he also muttered, "Do you know what they call a quarter pounder in France?"

Puzzled, Bill O'Reilly said, "What?"

"A royal with cheese. Do you know why they call it a royal with cheese?"

"The metric system?" Bill said. For being a dumbass, Bill O'Reilly did know his foreign weights like any idiot should.

"Check out the big brains on Bill! You a smart motherfucker Bill!"

"But I don't want you anymore mod! We can't dodge the point: I want you off of these forums. You are not needed and inhibit basic liberties! You need to be gone!" Bill said.

The mod left, but not before leaving his calling card. Bill O'Reilly was banned.

In other news, mods should only sensor truly offensive things. Off-topicness happens because of shitty threads. Make a good thread for once.

Better yet to delete and edit them too, edit of course should be allowed to those who will not abuse it, and only allow to edit for profanity purposes only.

Free flow of information and ideas only applies where there's actual information or ideas being put forth. "Back To Topic" warnings from mods are only given when the thread is digressing over the course of multiple posts or turning into a flame war. Anyone who is a "regular" on these forums would remember "Ah yes that thread about Remote Hacking evolved into Weapon Types" but a new visitor who might be looking for information would not look in a Remote Hacking thread for Weapon Type information. Making a new thread does not break the flow of information or ideas, it keeps it organized and easy to browse for anyone, forum vet or forum newbie.

Limerick relax, seriously do you want to be banned? He knows it as much as anyone does, just chill and use your head.

Right now I doubt if developers are holding a big grudge against you, they tend to not anyway.
