QuoteBeyond offering wonderful graphics capabilities, the XreaL engine is also able to load game content from Quake 3, Doom 3, Unreal Tournament 2004, and even Unreal Tournament 3! There is not even an Unreal Tournament 3 client for Linux yet, but this open-source engine can read the gameââ,¬â,,¢s content.

There.
PS should have its own Linux distro if this works out.

I get like 160 fps on UT3, and 62 fps on PS. I doubt that engine is advanced enough to cope with our dynamic lighting.

It is, and in some ways (not all) better than ut3. But we'd have to rewrite all the code for a quake-3 based engine, instead.

Aww.
But that means that the models, animations and maps are all ready for this engine, right?
I will check and if possible arrange a group of people that are willing to recode everything (success is very unlikely, though).

Any volunteers from the community?

It's against the EULA to use UT3's tools for other engines, sorry.

It's or UT3/Unreal Engine or port it all over to an other format not using any Unreal tools.

I have to admit it's an awesome engine, I already knew it, though :P Problem with going standalone are the tools. We would have to make them ourselves, but it's something for the future.

EDIT:
frvge, please refrain from such comments, this engine is NOT bad or incapable of having our game. Besides, we didn't do anything special with lights, we just used them properly. It even comes with an editor, check those screenshots, it's awesome. http://xreal-project.net/?page_id=15

Blender afaik supports Unreals 3d format. I don't get why can't you use their tools for another engine? It's not like you make any profit of it, anyway.

There is nothing to understand, just to follow up:

Quote from: UT3 EULA3.            Commercial Exploitation. You may not use this game, or any Mods (we'll explain this term later on) created for this game or using the tools provided with this game, for any commercial purposes without the prior written consent of Epic including, but not limited to, the following rules. You may not, without prior written consent from Epic, operate the Software in any gaming contest where (a) the cash value of all winnings and prizes paid throughout the entire competition is equal to or greater than US$5,000.00 OR (b) the name of the event, or any individual contest therein, incorporates or approximates the name of a company, product or commercial service OR (c) any company has provided, whether donated or as sponsorship, prizes, products or services worth with a fair market value of over US$5,000.00 OR (d) you have indicated that Epic or Midway is a sponsor of such gaming contest.

Technically, we could. BUT, if we decide to start charging a small fee (say, like 2 euro for PS), we would break the EULA. It's only possible if we win MSUC (and thus a UE3 license) or otherwise get a UE3 license.

If we would, also CT vets will have to pay.

you have to do it in 2 steps like the guys from natural selection did: build up a player base and media interest with the first free mod, then sell the standalone successor.
