You think they're going to make the rounds customize-able? Replace infinite lives with a finite amount? Pretty sure the opposite of that could be done on PT/CT/DA.

Look at all this activity!

It seems like it's simplified in pretty good ways thus far. Infinite lives does simplify things for all players involved because as Spark said, having to not worry about lives is one less thing than you had to think about in previous versions. This is good for everyone involved though as well. Newer players wont be discouraged by losing a game within a couple minutes. Older players can try other tactics. It makes Objectives the key point of the objective based mode.

This begs the question on if there will be a Deathmatch mode for either classic or blacklist mode.

I also have to wonder if Killstreaks actually have some sort of bonus or if they are simply a point/medal kind of system. Kind of like Halo's various medals that don't give you any sort of ability at any point, but to coincide with your score in the end. This would be in contrast to CoD, which I haven't really played, but gives you an advantage ability if you get your killstreak high enough.

That first video got me pretty pumped for it. If they're actually putting the work into a secondary "Mode" simply to appease the people played PT/CT then they are going in the right direction so far.

I'm interested in the new 4v4 version as well. I like that the two modes seem to be split.

It definitely looks fun, at least in the context of a... more CG than in-game (in terms of an actual round taking place) looking trailer. I noticed that I didn't actually SEE a Spy shoot any of these guns, except for the obvious sticky shocker one. I'd be hard pressed to believe that Spies actually get anything long range and lethal. What would be the point of coming out of the shadows if you could snipe Mercs all round? Unless they were low damage (to the point of near uselessness) or highly inaccurate, it seems very unlikely to me that it's all what it seems.

I'm interested in seeing a video of an actual round though as there is undoubtedly a lot more to be told. Till then it looks fun and the spies look cooler than DA, which isn't saying much on both fronts. 4v4 could be interesting, especially if that was simply the max and other maps were more geared towards smaller groups.

I like a lot of things until it starts costing me money. ;)

It just seems like a lot of the hype that surrounds Kickstarter projects when concerning video games happens when there is a apparent, and relevant, lack of what is proposed. Take the Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter, for example. There is an apparent lack of Adventure games now a days because it "doesn't sell" according the big companies. While companies like Telltale games ride on that wave of misconception, a Kickstarter featuring an Adventure game has hype by genre alone.

For PS it would seem like the appropriate time for it to be brought up would have been after Double Agent. Perhaps again after Blacklist, considering it's said that Versus will be back.

The point being that it seems the main reason progress is so slow is because PS is somewhat of a "Hobby" project, meaning nobody is getting paid to make it. Seeing crowd funding as it is today makes me a little sad that PS would likely not do so well because it's lack of real relevance or desire, albeit with a good concept. Had that option of been available way back when this idea was first birthed, it would probably have had a significant amount of followers (compared to now).

Well assuming it was possible from whatever crowd funding site that allowed that, is what I meant. With the hype surrounding Versus mode back then it probably would have fared pretty well. Now a days it seems like it would do marginally less so... Considering it's been a while since a proper Versus (splinter cell style) game came out to compare it to.

Has it popped into anyone's head that PS probably wouldn't have done too bad on Kickstarter, Indiegogo or other like crowd funding sites, if they were a thing back when this first began?

The thought just came to me and almost made me a little sad. :P

The only problem I have with XBConnect, which holds true to the PC version as well, is that there is a certain amount of preparation that needs to be done to make it work. Granted after you set it up once it will be set up for the rest of the potential times you would use it. It's hard to convince people to play a game that they have to go out of their way to play though. In contrast of getting people to play a game like TF2, which is just download and play.

It also helps that my example game has a player population still. :P

It'd be interesting to see a company like GoG simply make the Versus mode compatible on PC (or at least streamlining the process of making it work), or Microsoft/Sony reupping the mode on their respective "Stores."

I second VaNilla's comment. While I haven't kept my eye on Blacklist too much (I'd rather expect little and be pleasantly surprised, rather than vice versa) it does seems to be heading into "old but new" territory, whereas Conviction was just new.

Maxime Beland got a lot of flak, on places such as this forum, for the exact reasons that you stated Scanty Chunk, often being sited at the director behind Rainbow Six in turn as the reason why. While Conviction wasn't what hardcore fans hoped it would be, it again wasn't a terrible game by itself. It simply seemed like a separate game that they put Sam Fisher in to.

Perhaps it's a tough one to imagine in the aftermath of all of it, but pretend you saw Conviction without Sam Fisher. Imagine a Splinter Cell game that you were in control of a different spy (or merc), with different skills (such as Mark and Execute), with different views on the game world. I believe this would have made reactions much less of what you are saying up there. Most people seemed to be upset because their established character, with an established gameplay type had been "drastically" changed.

From a company perspective though, a big risk is taken when you gamble that fans will like the series even if the main character has changed. Imagine a Thief game where you don't play as Garret, a Metroid game without being Samus or a Zelda game without Link. Which are you more of a fan of? The Series or the Character?

Blacklist does seem to be heading in a "more right" direction, as far as fans are concerned. My biggest concern is that last I heard Michael Ironside wont be voicing Sam Fisher. It puts another variable in the situation I stated above when asking about series or character fandom. Does the voice actor really matter if the game is well made (which until otherwise stated, it could possibly be)? Will that stop your purchase?

I did indeed neglect to think of that video when making my response, but my next question would be if that instance of gameplay is accessible, in such that it could be released and played with easily? I, personally, would be very interested in playing whatever build that is just to see what is actually implemented at this point, or later on, what changed between builds.

I've wanted that for a long time though, so it has little to actually do the the Early Access stuff. :P
