Because, admittedly, there are loads of gadgets in PS, pehaps we could slowly ease the player into these gadgets?

At first I thought a Call Of Duty style limitation where the gadgets are made unavailable until they win or lose a certain amount of games, but then I thought no, because most PS players will at first be CT-players and will hate the fact that items are missing. So perhaps you could have a "Recommended Loadout" as a big button for the players first 5 matches (in the equipment screen) which shows them the best gadgets to take (Flash, Smoke, Camera and Camo seem to be obvious easy to use gadgets) and then to make it even more newb friendly we you could add an easy to access area where either the player gets to test their gadgets with an explanation as to what they do.

IMO there wasn't enough about gadgets in the SC tutorials.

NO to limiting the player's gadget choice in any way. just make the tutorial fucking good.

I agree that limiting the equipment is a bad idea.

Now that we as "old school pros" know how to play the game to some extent we can implament the noob guide into the tutorials and teach people how to play before they even have to go out and fight a real opponent.

visions and how to use them
sticky cams/quick cams
use of the nades as distactions and traps or tripple nading

if the newb is too lazy to read a tutorial and play through the tutorial maps then they can go ahead and get beat up on.

you can lead a noob to the water, but you can't make him drink XD

Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

You can train a n00b, but he'll just be a trained n00b.
