I've played multiplayer games that do have a pause option, so I can tell you that it's actually very rarely when someone interrupts the game. Most of the times it won't last very long anyway. Look, I know you guys don't believe it, but the majority of the players who are online are well aware of their bladder and dinner/lunch times. They're there to play. And with a good chance they're just as much against interrupting as you are. However, it seems to me that everything you can think of is the worst case scenario where you for some reason have ended up playing against complete idiots who pause the game for fun and/or some other retarded reasons that should've been left at the door. Hell, I won't even play against people like that.

Another thing no.one is realizing is that casting a vote equals to a phrase "Would you like us to lose the game?" Voting isn't effective enough in 4 player game. Frankly, I have no idea why you guys even reasonably consider it as you're lack of faith for the playerbase is unparalleled.

If it happens very rarely, what's the point?  Not worth the effort.  If they are well aware of their bladder they should know if it will overflow in the next 12 minutes.  Therefore, they shouldn't ready up.  It's a game, lose or win, no biggie.  You'll get em next round when you have nothing to worry about for 12 minutes.  I think of things in worst case scenario because if everyone only thought in best case scenarios, like all you pro-freezers do, then problems would never come to the table and would have to be fixed in patches.  You have to think in BOTH worst and best case scenarios, because BOTH are possible.  Even with best case scenario I don't think this is all that important, at all.

Certainly not on X-Box Live...

May a get a few names please because except Baldur's Gate and other games in this style I do not not a lot of game using a pause during a Multiplayer Session.

It doesn't matter.  The point is that pause isn't on a lot of games because the devs know that it's a useless feature unless it's a coop game.  Or an RPG.  Or a MMORPG.  Because the players have to suffer waiting for that guy to take care of business that he should have taken care of before he said he was "ready".  Ready means you are ready.  If you aren't ready, then don't ready up.  It's really that simple.

papa, all your points are totally invalid because their coherency totally fails. you probably suck in higher maths, don't you?
more advanced suggestion, harder to implement, but should take care of your invalid points: let the players set a backup-point, so that they can fool around till everyone's back at the keyboard and simply resume to where the interruption happened.

This is a player problem, not a game problem. We do not need this freeze feature. Use the talk button or your mic and just say you must go to the bathroom or something. It will do the exact same thing as voting. If they do not care about you they will continue the game, if they care... everyone will wait.

We do not need a feature for that it would be a waste of time.

waiting is pointless, as having less time totally screws the balance. it's also not more exciting than freezing the game.

If you care that much about pausing a game you care to much;p

Gawain

if you care that much about not pausing a game even if both teams agree you care too much.

The only reason i dont want this implemented is it will become annoying, no1 will pause (so wasted dev. time), and its not really needed. These games mean nothing anyway, just play for fun, so what does it matter if the game is paused or not?

Hyrage

Anyway if a feature like this is implemented, I'll mod my version to not see the annoying vote appear, it's quite messing up the game immersion.

I would rather vote to kick someone...

But Papa is right Rambo. You're adding new points as you go along such as backup points , so it seems as if Papa's points are invalid, when they're not. Papa is right, you should be ready before the game starts, I you think you've got dinner in 5 minutes then dont play anymore games. If you think you've got dinner before rev, re-organise your rev for after dinner, and i'm sure most people here can hold there bladder for 5 minutes, can they not? I can't think of any scenarios where this'd be usefizzle.

Wow, that is honestly the most retarded thing I've heard from you, ever.  I've aced all my math classes with flying colors.  How you came to an alternate conclusion boggles me.  And I thought that the freezing idea couldn't get any worse than it was.  Seriously, let's all throw the players in a giant bucket until one guy pinches off a shit, wtf?  You gotta be kidding me.

Lol. Im perfectly fine with a Votekick. But not a votepause.

Gawain

voting for a kick is total bullshit: 3 noobs join your "good only" server, and you can't kick them, yeeha...
