Thats what I mean Rambo, Clubhouse did have pitch black shadows although it was a light map, so you could still hide properly, this one doesn't seem to have enough of these, if any.
Does it matter? Shadows are fine as long as the merc can't see a spy hidden in it IMO.
It matters because if you turn up your gamma, you'll be able to see everything except pitch black shadows.
If you can't see a spy in a shadow, you still can't see it if you turn the gamma all the way up. So we don't really need pitchblack shadows at every spot.

Yea, I know, but I have looked into it ^^

Im not saying you need pitch black spots everywhere fool :P. I just think that they're needed, but the main point which Lennard has just adressed for me is, I want spots where the spy cannot be seen in normal vision, if you can do that with the current level of shadowing, then that's fine :).

agreed more dark areas, ct was way to bright.

Sigh, how many times must I tell people. First of all, this is pre-alpha, so anything can changed. Second of all, it's going to look differant on differant monitors. It looks fine on my, too dark on others and too bright on the rest. For the love of god stop talking about shadows and what not becuase when the game is finaly shipped you will have the ability to adjust your monitor using an in-game slider to fit your display.

So please. Drop the issue becuase you aren't telling me anything I don't already know or is in anyway helpful.

Farley4Fan

If I can see detail or texture through a shadow then you can see a spy through that shadow, regardless of monitor.  That map looks chock full of it.  But I understand that it's pre-alpha, maybe testing should determine how dark maps should be?

Gawain

there's plenty of cover and camo will pwn harder, so i don't see any balance issues in the areas shown in the trailer. i'd just like to see pitch-black shadows in the areas where it's already really dark/hard to see.

VaNilla

It's pre-alpha and like you said things are meant to be changed, I was just putting forward my suggestion. Regardless of the monitor I think it should be darkened but if that doesn't help you, I cant think of any simpler way I could possibly describe it, issue dropped.

I WAS TALKING ABOUT CT I READ THIS PREVIOUSLY AND COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND. I wasn't referring to project stealth or the trailer in anyway.  I was blown away by how much you have done already and everyone(who is smart) understand that this game hasn't been in production very long because ut3 didn't come out all that long ago plus you guys do it in your free time.  So please get off your high horse zedblade and read what i said that about CT not PS, thank you.

scope2005

The trailer is.. FUCKING AMAZING.

I totally missed this as I have been realy busy with work and familly atm, so who the hell authored this map?

The detail and props within it look outstanding, you guys have been busy... Congratulations.

Splinterfactor8

CT was not to bright you just got to be able to hide when the mercs are coming to always in shadow in the vents behind a wall many places to hide

Ah, I had forgotten about this.

Gamma does help you see the spy. Want proof?

One screenshot and one picture with a camera, this is the default gamma. Now let's look at what happens if you turn up the gamma using powerStrip.

Sorry for the large images, but lower quality would make my point weaker.

Now, can anyone argue that gamma doesn't help you?

goodkebab

we wont be be able to prevent gamma hacks....which only work on textures that are not 100% black

as you noticed...spy is still 100% black against 100% black shadow.

Gamma hacks will not work anywhere that is 100%black.

and btw.  you can still see the profile of the spy in the screenshot you posted....and i also know that particular corner of wherehouse to know that even without the gamma hack the spy is still visible.

Playing with such a hack is ugly anyways that most people wouldnt enjoy it.
