people didn't mt whore to be save from flashbangs  ::)
countering an imbalance with another imbalance yay, thank god it's mr.mic's job and not yours...

First I have a question or two to the dev team: Have you made any decision on whether or not to include "pupil adaption" into the game? I could pretty much get my answer from a more technical question, however... What about HDR? Will I see bright lights blind my eyes, when I look at them. Commensurately, will my darkvision improve whem moving from light area into a dark one? I'd say that could be something worth thinking because with this we could allow a variety of new possibilities where you could use light tactically as your advantage. Here are few examples: As a merc, you could drop a flare at your feet and force the spies out from their nightvision (sort of a merc "flash bang"), and even still make it harder for them to navigate in the dark as the bright burning light causes his rod cells to deactivate on his retina.  And as for the topic itself, flashbangs in the dark would have a lot greater effect than in light.

Moreover, I'd like to say that I don't think MT should disorient from smoke or flashbangs in any way. Those two gadges are the two main aggro tools for the spies, and having them disable or weaken the merc's defense against aggro is not going to build the gameplay towards balance. This is exactly why spies have sticky shokers. They are the safest and most reliable way to strip the merc down from any visions and it gives you a slight moment to think about how to deal with him.  Smoke blinding the MT is an exceptionally trivial feature. Like I said,  it's just as easy to shock the merch and drop a smoke/flash at your feet to cover your escape.

bet that wasn't the main reason...

Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

It was. I used the gamma hack quite alot, and I've got the EMF down, so i only needed MT for aggro (flash + smoke = i'm dead)

@Liquid

People MT whored because that was simply efficent tactic, given you had the ideal equipment. As you well know CT didn't have standardized resolutions for the vision modes, meaning they were partly dependant on your resolution. The post render quality also improved the image quality significantly when set to high. In high resolutions this ended up in insanely accurate MT visions and given it's "NV" capabilities and the obvious ability to detect movement pretty much made it omnipotent.

Being safe from flashbangs was only a side benefit of MT. The main reason was that you got to see in the dark and instantly were aware of any spy moving at more than a crawl, even if he was behind you. Really, it cut most of the skill of being a merc from the game, since it gave you 360 degree vision, played a sound when a spy was detected and gave you that easy to see grey box.

It was like playing the game in easy mode.

And I don't even want to get into playing it with high quality post render.

@ kurbutti:  that fine and all , but now with a different engine in mind, there won't be child's play
of  Running around like an insane maniac with nades, because the merc will be able to aim more precise then chaostheory / doubleagent combined

-Thanks Murdy for da Sig <3  xD

@ Kurbutti.
Maybe. I played on a FX5200 at the time, so i played on lowest settings (blurry image in MT, no EMF ghosting, harder sniping), and i somehow found aggro the only good reason to use it.

Gawain

that partly explains why you seemed that pro at being a noob ^^

folks, plz read kurbutti's post about pupis adaption etc and discuss about this topic instead of the mt/flash crap cause his topic really needs some discussion...

Kurbutti

MT/FB crap is actually more ontopic that my post, :-P but yeah, wasn't worth it's own topic I suppose.

I <3 U

Teh Kurbutti is right. You're eyes become trained to EMF ghosting etc. Thats why some people are better that it than others, even if playing at the same resolution. Some players can even do it without zooming / with uzi. Personally I can't, but its all about training the eye. The only way to stop it is to make stationery spies completely invisible under motion-tracking & electrically inactive spies completely invisible under EMF.

Which is currently what we got. Or at least, we can change the refraction-level, so it becomes more or less visible. Works great, but will require some tweaking in actual play-testing.

Gawain

he wasn't talking about the human eye, he was talking about iris adaption simulation ingame. it's in ct, but the effect is kinda minor.

frvge

I dont know for sure if we'll have HDR. If we have it tho, it'll be more like CT single player.
