Selling to Ubi? Heck no. Not if it is up to me.

Will Electronic arts do better ?

They have more money to spend... but IMO still no.

We're not really for sale. They can try tho ;)

I <3 U

if someone offers to buy you out, you should take it, even if it is ubi, if the game is published you guys would be mega rich, right?

Spekkio

It's not about the money (I hope), but about making a quality SvM game.

Gui Brazil

It's easy to say 'no' now. Fuck, if ubi said "here's a thousand dollars for your stuff", I'd accept without thinking twice.

Spekkio

You realize that the earning potential a project like this can net you by being on your resume is far beyond the $1k Ubi would give you, right?

Westfall

Do you realize that putting on your resume that this was BOUGHT by UBI would look even better compared to the "We made a mod for the UT3 Engine" approach?

Roberto1223

omfg, why would ubi buy this, they fucking came up with the SvM idea lool !!!!

That's the only reason they would need.

No, if they buy us out, they have all the rights. If it's in the contract that we get a small percentage, then maybe... but who buys Ubisoft products anyway? Especially in a very niche genre.

It's way cooler to say: "We started with a mod on UT3, and then it became a standalone retail version, without the help of big guys like Ubisoft or Activision".

IMO...

Yes i understand that Ps main objective is to make a good quality SvM game but ubi won't offer you a proposal to buy you guys if the mod is crap. They will make you an offer only if you make a good quality game anyways. So i don't really see a problem in selling your game to ubi. You will make some money or a lot of money but you will also make the game more popular and i don't see how that is wrong. At the moment your ubi hate is getting in the way guys , ubi isn't that of a bad company , it has a lot of good franchises , its just that its support sucks . But you would already have a good and polished game.........

So whats wrong ? The point of any commercial company is to make money and that is what they are doing......... I see how many wouldn't like that but if you would be a head of a company what would be more important to you ? 'Some' fans or the company ?

the problem is they would just turn it into a shitty console port and then reap all the benefits of turning it into a watered down game.

It depends. As Westfall said, "Worked on a mod which was later bought by a professional game developer" sounds much better than "Worked on a mod which had a player base of 40 people", atleast to me.

Besides, I haven't thought the 1k idea through. My post was merely to illustrate how money would change it all. Also, since I'm doing Civil Engineering at university, this mod no longer has a purpose on my resume as it had before (or atleast its importance has shrunk quite a bit).

But let's not forget that I'm an exception, and that most of the dev team either works or wants to work in this industry in the future (and I'd include myself in that group until not long ago).
