Hey, PSers (lol, pissers). This has probably already been suggested but I'm wondering if the dev team is thinking about giving the spies and mercs a company/branch title to procede their class? ex: Shadownet Spy; Shadownet being the rookie-training branch of Third Echelon according to all implications.

If they were, I think it'd be a good idea for the Forum to brainstorm company titles for both classes and vote on the best one. Democracy and all that shit.

I'm thinking Darklight or Darkwatch or something like that for the spies. Maybe SOD, for Stealth Operations Detachment, a clandestine branch of the CIA.

And for the mercenaries something more iconic: Fortress (or maybe just fort)? Perimeter? GRID? For Guaranteed Regulatory Issue Defense?

Merc

I don't remember our writer giving them names. But that's a long time ago. Why would they have names? If you're being hired on a per-contract base, you can team up with another Merc/Spy who is also a hired infiltrator/defender next 'assignment'.

But if you can come up with some good examples, we can consider them.

Well I'm assuming these characters won't be lone wolf bounty hunter archetypes. I'm assuming they work for some company or branch of the gov't and I think those agencies should be named for the sake of awesomeness. I remember the developers giving them generic titles like High Tech. Security for the Mercs and something else for the spies.

You don't like acronyms? What are you Zed, some kind of terrorist?
Without acronyms we wouldn't have the ACLU, FEMA, the NAACP, the AARP, the IRS, the FDA, the NRA, the NFL, the NBA, the WNBA.
Why do you hate the 1st Amendment Zed?! Why do you hate women?! Why do you hate the troops?!
>:(

Seriously though, I think acronyms are more iconic and easier to remember. I mean...Gurka? DynCorps? The hell do those things even mean?
Right now, I think SHARD and FIST are good.

Acronyms can be cool but are overused in games nowadays.  F.E.A.R.?  S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?  The people that made SvM were a little creative by naming their mercenaries as Argus -- a mythological giant that had 100 eyes hence "all eyes."  It fit the mercenaries perfectly.  I suggest something along those lines.  Just something different than an acronym.  Shadownet isn't the best name, but the futuristic technological theme contrasted well with the mythology for the mercenary.

Guess I'm the only one that's not sick of acronyms. Fair enough.
We could give them a generic animal name, like Ravens for the spies and Bears for the mercs, but after more than 20 different incarnations of Power Rangers, I guess you guys are tired of those too.
Cross Corporation or Templar Exec.=Merc. (slight nod to the religious bullshit going on in Blackwater).
Or Troy? Troy Corporation.
Spies could have ghosts names, like the alien vehicles in Halo: Ghosts, Wraiths, Banshees, Phantoms, Specters. Something like that.

LOL at Agent.
