Penumbra: Overture and HPL1 (The engine under the hood) went open source last Friday.

I've had an idea of something I wanted to do ever since I first played the game, but it would have been a pretty tedious amount of work doing it without the source code.

But now that the game code is open source, I can finally realize my idea.
(Note that it's the source code for the game executables that are now free, not the game assets. You'll still need to buy it.)

So here it is. Penumbra: Overture made even more immersive than before:

Note, that this is work in progress.

I am going to release this some time... Don't know when... There's a lot of work I have to do on the engine, and I want to get some work done on PS... I've been kinda "away" lately, 'cause the love of my life left me.

When I do, all you'll need to play is:
- 1 legal copy of Penumbra: Overture (Windows only)
- 1 Wii-mote + 1 Nunchuk extension
- Some infrared LEDs (You can use the ones that comes with the console)
- 1 Bluetooth dongle

If my heart ever heals, I will make sure it'll never break again.

lmao "You see the bottle?"

I don't know why but I laughed at that.

I'm kind of confused about this.  You're using the wii-mote to simuate mouse movement?  You somehow are using motion control on a PC game?  That's the idea I got from that, and if so, that's really cool man.  It shows me the potential of motion control.  At the very least, it has potential for plenty of applications like this one.  Very nice.

The biggest part of this, is that I control the flashlight using the wii-mote, giving the sensation of holding a real flashlight.

Ya that's what I was thinking.  Very cool stuff man.

I would like to see this with other games like Crysis.  You know when you can actually hold an enemy by the neck?  I would LOVE to shake those little North Korean bastards around (nothing against Korean people, but it's easy to hate the NK government/military, obviously).  MAKE IT HAPPEN!   :D

Succubus Dryad Of The Undying Comet

And all FPS games, too.

Is it possible to include recoil into a wiimote?

Farley4Fan

lmao recoil.  Attach a small co2 cannister and rig it to release a small amount when firing.  Make the speaker on the wii mote produce a large BANG!

I know, N64 had that too.
I mean actual recoil, with settings dynamically adjusted to the gun the character carries and all the other recoil dynamics calcualted.

Did you see my post?  You could do that or attach it to a real gun.  You know.  Rig the wiimote to pull the gun's trigger when you pull the wiimote's trigger.  Have the gun shoot actual bullets.  Then you'll get actual recoil.  haha

Why not, but on a larger scale?
Like a huge 15m x 15m cage with all kind of stuff and mechanisms that do that?

Sounds kinky.
