Finer movement control with a controller rather than based on button presses.

There is no Pressure Sensitivity that says you want to walk slow with W,A,S,D. It's either you go Full, or you press a button and then you go slow.

Controller on the otherhand lets you determine how fast you're going to go with the angle of the stick.

Pretty much.  It's not that I can't move with a keyboard it just works better with dual sticks.

Spark Mandriller

you just hate things being precise, don't you?

ps don't just agree with cronky that means i have to read his posts and that sucks

Farley4Fan

No.  I'm more precise controlling a spy with a controller.

Back on topic.

It's funny you say precise... because that's the control you get from a Controller when moving.

Mouse and Keyboard aren't. You just have two states which are "Toggle-able".

Works both ways, but one is contained into 1 stick with certain degree thresholds that are interpreted as these states. The other is located outside your movement and adjusted by a button. (Unless I'm thinking about the wrong SC. I know one uses the Mouse wheel to adjust speed instead.)

For a game the requires you to think on the fly depending on your situation, that .0025ths of a second difference may save you.

;)

i call bullshit on the controller fraction here.

can we go back on topic now? i'm more interested in lifestyle planning than the old pc-vs-console-style wars, and i think i speak for the majority here. kkthxbay

Actually, movement on the XBox is not purely analog. It is still digital, just with varying degrees (4 or 5, can't remember). I will concede that it's faster to use an analog stick instead of scroll + button press, but it's actually more accurate to dial in a speed rather than go by the feel of an analog stick.

The two-state speed was new in CT. In PT, there were 4-5 speeds. Ubi decided it was unnecessary, so they simplified it. I disagree with that, since it eliminates the potential to differentiate between different environmental surfaces. You are either going slow and are "safe" or you're going fast and you aren't. Makes things a little too bland.

And saying "I shouldn't have to get used to a new control scheme for switching from XBox to PC" is the same as saying "I shouldn't have to get used to a new control scheme for switching from XBox to PS3." They are different systems with different user interfaces; if you can't handle that, then stick to the XBox.

Farley4Fan

I've never had a problem with the accuracy of switching speeds.  Ever.

I agree with the 2 state speed being bad.

Who said we shouldn't have to get used to anything?

Someone on p2. It's buried somewhere in there.

Likewise, I've never had a problem using the PC speed controls as spy. It is you and a few others who are saying that the PC keyboard + mouse controls are too cumbersome to use compared to a controller.

VaNilla

Is it not more accurate to just tap the keyboard button when your moving slowly?

Farley4Fan

It's more accurate if you want your spy to look like he's jacking off (kidding)

It's not that keyboard controls are bad or that they are impossible to adapt to it's just that I prefer dual sticks for all third person games ala Gears of War.  It just feels better with analog stick controls.  Key words: "I prefer".

Here's a suggestion.  If there aren't going to be a multitude of speeds (or even if there will be) it's probably a good idea to not have the spy raise up 4-5 inches each time you push the movement buttons.  If the spy is low when stationary then he should stay low and gradually raise as he gradually goes faster.  In my experience on PC, the spies tend to twitch pretty bad when you push the movement buttons while crouched and I feel like it draws attention.

First off, I'm the one that said "I shouldn't have to get used to... blah blah blah". Just so we all know who to point fingers at.

But I only say that because Agent is saying that playing with a controller (Xbox one at that) on PC can have an exact Xbox 1 translation. That I wouldn't have to change. Which is the whole point of saying that I shouldn't have to learn a new scheme.

If it's not exactly the same, then it shouldn't be said that it is. Just because it's Similar, or as close as the translation can get doesn't constitute the word "exact".

I never meant that line to be taken out of context and put like, "Whine Whine Whine I don't want to learn the PC controls Whine". I just, as Farley has said, would prefer to play Spy with a controller.

Agreed, that's really annoying on CT at the moment :P
