I'm finding myself torn between skepticism and nostalgic excitement for the new Twisted Metal. While I believe the series was fun, I don't actually think the game was ever... Good.

After watching the linked trailer I'm almost afraid that they may have gotten rid of my favorite part about the series... the wide variety of Characters. Each with their own (albeit thin) story on why they are where they are, and what their fates are after they win. (Mr. Grimm, Axel, Ghost, anyone remember those guys? ...anyone remember any other character than Sweet Tooth)

Well i remember Axel alright(the picture of two really big tires are burnt into my mind :D ) from the first ps1 game. Maaaan that was fun, running each other over and shooting rockets at each other in the splitscreen multiplayer...
And holy mother of god a new Deus Ex! The trailer looks awesome and its universe is starting to look like something thats inspired by GITS SAC. I just hope that it its not a watered down Deus Ex like the 2nd was...

That's the thing about Twisted Metal. I always found it to be fun, even more fun with extra people playing, but again I can't think of why it's GOOD.

It's pure Mayhem. Over the top physics at one point, but most of the environmental disasters are based on realistic-like physics. Not in any way an accurate driving simulation, nor a REALLY competent shooter.

It defies logic for me because I know I played that game for years.

I do know for a fact though I always had a special place inside my brainular for the endings in those games. Calypso was a dick in some, others were just plain brutal.

Deus Ex does look good, it's SEEMINGLY trying to focus on what made the first one good. Choices are abundant, and Augmentations will set you for life.

The thing that was wrong with the second game is that they tried to fix problems... that weren't problems. Reading about how Universal Ammo came to be really brightened this dark corner of understanding.

The first game had people saying that they found it annoying that they couldn't always find ammo for the gun they had. It being important because it's PROBABLY the only gun they were really proficient with. Which means that they have to find some other means of going about their business without the aid of their VALUED weapon.

SOUNDS like a problem. Solution is Universal Ammo.

Problem with that is... it's not a problem. Yes, ammo was scarce in that game. Depending on how you played it that was DOUBLE true, but it made you have to think about HOW you were going to approach a situation. You always had access to all the weapons, but whether you could use them well was another thing. It varied up the game by not just letting you shoot your #1 gun the ENTIRE game.

Variety = Good

Especially when variety doesn't even mean you have to fundamentally change the WHOLE way you play. If you're hacking/stealth and you run out of Multi-tools and lockpicks it never meant that now... You HAVE to kill everything. Instead that you may have to now see if you can TALK your way into places, or simply find other means to entering... Or break the locks... Or find the keycodes... Or find the Keys...

...Killing everyone always being an option though ...with that rocket launcher you may not be good with but who cares... IT'S A DAMN ROCKET LAUNCHER ;)
If you haven't noticed, I'm REALLY good at making a simple response into a wall of text.

Instead of making a new thread on comic con to discuss it I'll just bump the E3 thread.

Favorite quote from comic con:

"Hollywood and Ghost Recon join forces!"

Ubi was referring to the fact that they were making short films for the ghost recon series, and I don't really have a problem with that.  The first thing that popped into mind my mind, though, was how hollywood their games are becoming (including Ghost Recon).

Until they show a non-staged Milo demonstration, Kinect can go shove itself up its digital ass.

If my heart ever heals, I will make sure it'll never break again.

I had some hope for Kinect/Natal, whatever the fuck they call it now.  I imagined playing Ghost Recon and giving SQUAD COMMANDS with my own HANDS.  Now that you can't give squad commands in Ghost Recon, now that Kinect has shown that it's weaker than expected, my imagination was crushed.  I still hold out some hope that some good developers could make some interesting games or just apply Kinect in an interesting, non-intrusive way (like simply giving squad commands ffs).

Child of Eden looked pretty fun if you are stoned out of your mind.
