Basically, Spekkio, my argument can be summed up with one line from Cronky's post:

Good graphics because... hell... they want their product to shine.
The little details make a product sparkle, make it shine. A headshot icon is a relatively simple but noticeable, and nice, detail. And again, it takes about fifteen seconds to implement. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this idea, right now you're just whining because we're asking them to make this game a little better. Obviously they already have a kill message for when a spy dies, and a special case for when a spy is hit with a headshot, there is absolutely no reason to simply put these two things together in four-five lines of code to make something that helps PS sparkle a little bit more.
Devs can do whatever they want -- it's their artwork, not mine. However, most companies want to make money so they can pay devs to keep putting in long hours to make more art. I'm saying that, as a consumer, a game with top notch graphics but thin game time won't get my money. In the end, I buy video games to actually play a game, not stare at beautiful rendering and listen to shitty voice acting. And, IMO, a dev who prioritizes shiny graphics over game content doesn't have the right priorities. Again, though, that's their choice to make.

The funny thing is, you're assuming the people working on PS have a limited time window. If they did, your argument would make some sense, and they would be sacrificing SOME time to work on gameplay in order to do graphics and 'sparkles', however, they're not. They have however much time they want.

On a related note, in most development circles, the people who work on the graphics don't even touch the damn gameplay, so good or bad graphics has little to do with anything related to gameplay.

Yeah, that's something people really need to realise. No matter how much time the artists spend on little things like that, it doesn't take any time away from working on the gameplay, cause that's for the programmers.

Someone still has to program when those graphics show up.

This is why there are people on the graphics team, in order to make the graphics functional.

Spekkio

Oh yea? How many people do you think are actually on PS's graphics 'team?' This isn't a game being developed by a full studio by paid employees.
