Malice

Hello everyone, this is my first post on the forum. I've been following Project Stealth for probably close to a year now and I'm really looking forward to its release. Like most of us here, I played SvM in SC:PT and SC:CT and I'd easily say it's one of the best multiplayer experiences I've had, if not the best. The only difference being that I played the PS2 versions, which to my knowledge, are both more or less exactly like SC:PT MP. However, I do also have the PC version of SC:CT and if it weren't for Ubisoft completely erasing all record of my purchase along with my multiplayer key when they closed the old Ubisoft store I'd probably still be playing.

I figured I'd say hi, and let the devs know they can add +1 person to the list of people patiently waiting to play some PS.

One thing I've noticed about SvM is that it was never very popular, but the people who do like it are fanatics. The conclusion seems to be that most people turn away early on, but those who stick around long enough to learn the basics find a very rewarding game. While the learning curve of the game itself is not very steep, there is a lot to learn about certain tricks, tips, techniques, and the behavior of other players. e.g. perfecting the quick sticky-cam, learning mine locations, the art of the neck snap, being stealthy overall, etc. So when PS does come out, we should make an effort to introduce the noobs and the COD-obsessed and show them why stealth is awesome.

Thanks for reading and feel free to discuss! ;D

Hi malice.

I felt I could really relate to your last paragraph.  Ubi just released AC Brotherhood.  I will say that I think it's a fun game, but the multiplayer reeks of watered down stealth and automated super kills much like Conviction.  It's kind of fun though with friends.  My friends like it because it's a change of pace from the recent COD, L4D, Halo, and all other mindless FPS fun.  It's a shame because they don't realize that there are much better stealth multiplayer games out there but at least this one is accessible to the point where maybe they'd consider playing SvM sometime.

So while I'm kind of irked at Ubi for making an online experience that is super simplified and shallow ("press x to jump from a 5 story building, land perfectly on your target, kill him, and receive super bonus points all while your target cannot move an inch and has to sit there while you jump on him) I still kind of like that Ubi might have helped bridge them to better and deeper stealth games.

I haven't played AC:Brotherhood, but from what I've seen from the Multiplayer Gameplay I'm kinda surprised there is no like, "Counter" to assassinations.

Perhaps there is and I'm just missing it, but I kinda assumed there would be a like, "SH*T, PRESS A TO NOT DIE" right before you were about to get jumped on. Then you roll away and try to blend into the crowd again, or turn around and kill the assassin. To which they'd get a Counter going on. Both you and him countering back and forth till a 3rd guy comes in and kills you both.
If you haven't noticed, I'm REALLY good at making a simple response into a wall of text.

There are counters to stuns.  Stuns are where the target can punch out the guy who was trying to assassinate him.  From what I have played so far, the assassin can counter the stun and assassinate the target.

There was one instance where my target (my friend) and I came face to face and I was the guy hunting him.  I pushed x to assassinate and I thought I was about to kill him when he stunned me.  I don't know whether he countered my assassination attempt or whether I just lagged but I was all like

He said he was just pushing random buttons because he thought you could counter somehow.

So I guess you can counter face2face assassinations at least and I haven't yet seen a button prompt for it yet.  For how accessible they want this game to be they sure do leave a bunch of shit for you to figure out on your own (like BASIC game mechanics?).  Leads to countless frustration with no tutorials or indications of how/when you are supposed to counter.  I guess it will come with experience but this game isn't deep enough for me to get invested.  With no prompt to time up your counter with, it's either right at the beginning of the assassination animation or it's elsewhere.  Where is it?  I can't find the window, I don't even know the button.  I'm guessing the stun button but who knows?  It's bad game design.

This goes back to the paragraph that Malice wrote that led me to respond.  There may be some "tricks" to learn, but most of the tricks in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood have to deal with figuring out how the game works - not strategy or skill.  The lack of strategy comes from the lack of team games and heavy dose of "skill  based games".  The lack of skill comes from every single kill being completely automated, it's in the realm of Heavy Rain automation.  "Press X to do the most super amazing crazy thing of all time x infinity off a building through a pile of robot turkey bodies at a billion miles per hour to receive max combo points and win the match wagawagawagawagawaga!!!!1"

So it has some fun but it's not deep, there are so few tricks/timing/tactics and things of that nature to learn like in SvM.  It seems like every single game I play the scores of the players are almost identical.  Like 5 points will separate the whole list of players in the lobby if they all understand what kind of kills net you the most points.  It comes down to luck and one person seems to get a little bit more than the rest, but barely.

After Conviction's MP and now this...

Hype for an Ubi multiplayer game went from 0 to -1.  Could be worse.  It just shows a trend.  Ubi is going for flashy games that take no luck or strategy online.  Yay.  Don't hold your breath for future soldier.  We may get a yahtzee mode.

I read that whole thing you typed Farley. Was really taking it in and going, "Oh" and "Ah". Then I hit the word Yahtzee and all I could then think about from then on was this clip from South Park:

All that work and I lost it at the word before last.

haha this post is win

that's the reason why I said Yahtzee in the first place (lol), the smarter/more skillful tron monster profile guy loses because stan gets a yahtzee.  Ubi is really taking this "game" model seriously.

I'm new as well, I had heard about this a long time ago. I played CT on the xbox for 3 years or something. I wasn't really as good as some of the people who played there. I was regular I guess, I was starting to get good until Microsoft shut down the servers.

I hear this is only for PC, I have no problem with this excepth that I don't have a decent computer right now and that I've never played CT on PC so learning the controls would be difficult. However I was told I could use an xbox controller or something. Is it possible? I'd rather learn to play with PC controls but I want to keep my options open.
