Im going to have to disagree with you because everyone knows if you stand up at all near a proxy it will blow up =/... so that negates that theory.

I do however think it would be a good defensive tactic especially if your partner is dead.

Agentttt, you were supposed to pretend while reading my story ;)

Pretend that while standing up normally is a fast transition from crouching, grabbing a merc is a slow one.

Fast = "I'm a mine, and you crossed my path" *explosion*
Slow = "This guy's legit. He can pass" *no explosion*

pretend isn't in my vocabulary. Facts give results. Results give solidarity.

Before you can state facts, you need to know that opinions cannot be wrong or right.

Yeah, I forgot to mention in the story that my Mines also shout one liners before they explode. Just to give them a little more personality (like the portal turrets!!!!! ;)). Sticky cameras do much the same thing. Saying in a whisper "...I can seeeeee you".

...yeah... okay now this can go back on topic now.

If there's another merc close, you're not supposed to engage. You're not even supposed to engage at all.

I can understand where you're/he's coming from. While there are legitimate tactical uses (as mentioned previously), it could encourage aggro play more. Now that's just a worst case scenario, and there are many things you could do to counter it's usefulness... but essentially what is being proposed here is the equivalent of just having your spy partner anywhere near you.

If you're partner is hacking an objective/panel, you've grabbed a Merc and haven't killed him for some reason, all the while being able to defend your partner just as well, if not better than you normally could (what with the bullet sponge you're holding)... what's the downside? :P

Perhaps, for whatever reason, this is a hold that the Merc can eventually break out of. Reason? ...The Spy doesn't have the Merc in a very good headlock with 1 arm. So if you use this tactic for more than like... 10 seconds (how long he would have been knocked out for?) then he just breaks free. Health also doesn't drain like when you're choking the Merc normally.
If you haven't noticed, I'm REALLY good at making a simple response into a wall of text.

Sometimes, you really have to think carefully when you want to kill a mercenary, reason is, if you noticed that the mercenary used up his gas mask, grenades you definetely do not want to kill him, reason is:

A) You can speed cam him.

B) You don't get blown up by a nade coming from random direction.

Anyway, now the aggro bit, I just really hope PS will do something to allow aggresive gameplay for spies, in my opinion playing aggro spy is definetely a lot more harder but it gives a lot better results.

For example, stealthy spies don't have much adrenaline rushes, Aggro spies tend to have them more since they are out in the open.

Aggro spies can be a lot faster to get to objectives as well as, at the start of the game they have more chance of getting to an objective because mines aren't going to be set up very quickly.

And a lot more other reasons.

And I really really really want PS to make a somekind of a sound when you get sleeped by a camera or when you explode or die from a mine, or even get killed by a flying grenade that is being shot from a very long distance, they can actually do a kill cam and in that kill cam they can add those sound effects.

Imagine from A to B 100 yards grenade flight, the grenades goes: WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHOOOOOOOOOOOO *BOOM*.

Would it be technically possible to draw a gun while holding a Merc? Yes
Is it in PS 1.0? Not that I know of.

bravo! I've got a question a little bit off topic. Are you already able to put 4 players on map and they see each others moves(animations and all)?

frvge

Yes, but some animations are still a bit borked with replication. Getting a proper rotation is also hard. These things put us off by 2 weeks by planning our internal special build, which had to be downgraded to our special special build :(

Sweet, that is some good information. How about, just being able to play? Discarding animations, are you able to hack PCs and have a gameplay?

puuusianka

I think you are able to play but it wouldn't be very enjoyable since no coop anim(body ladder) and it wouldn't be nice when you look at mercenary and he is looks like a flying mover, you can't even see if he snipes!

In one rapid-prototyping build like a year ago: yes.
Now: no, no real SvM gameplay (because of the special special buld).

Sounds fancy. But why not? Just out of curiosity, is it connection problems or something?

Sounds like something that would already be in the game.

Instead of pointing out obvious reasons why it wouldn't hurt to be in there I'll just leave 1 situation.

A Merc lays a mine. You grab him from behind without setting it off. Pulling out your gun you place your laser over the freshly activated mine. Tapping into his comms you hear the a shout of "FUCKIN HAXX". You fire. The Merc's body absorbs a majority of the damage from the blast. You're stunned and kill-less, but alive. You give a slight grin as a "X just committed suicide" message pops up.

The other two people may not know what just happened, but that respawning Merc sure as hell does.

Win. So much win.

I could swear there was a pre-release video of a spy shooting his SS while he had a merc grabbed.  Like a promo gameplay trailer for PT multi or something.

It was in this style just different gameplay:

cool trailer for giggles and nostalgia:

edit

never mind i found it, but he didnt shock the merc while he had him grabbed, his teammate did.  This is what made me want PT.  Badly.
