Connecting polygons?

Does anyone know a very neat way of connecting polygons/vertices/edges together from one side to another? I don't want to use extrude all the way to the edge and have an invisible polygon with additional un-needed 4 vertices when it comes to UVW.

move it over and then just delete the face.
or
create 2 edge loops on the right leg, snap it over and delete the face.

But that will still leave the vertices, Lennard gave me a better idea of using the bridge, that seems to work I guess.
