I was just wondering if accessibility to new players is a consideration in this project.

I've played a bit of Chaos Theory multiplayer but I found my enjoyment of the game to vary greatly from session to session.  At times, I would be paired up with a novice player against two skilled and experienced teammates.  In my experience, the most enjoyable games would happen when the teams were at comparable skill and experience levels.

Is there any thought/effort being put into making the game easy to get into?

Due to the nature of the game, it takes time to improve.  Maybe when the host creates a server, along with the title should be an option to choose a skill level.  (Inexperienced, Average, Expert, or All Welcome)  You can get an idea of the skill level before you enter.

Or they could implement a tracker which can identify experience.  At this point I don't know for sure.

The best advice I can offer to you is : play against the experienced players , yeah it may be tough but you will learn from your mistakes ie. what mines not to run into and what not but also if you you start playing with people on the same skill level as you , your not going to enhance your knowlege because one only knows as much as the other.

Finally , last but not least , Unlike ubisofts half assed tutorials , I remember not to long ago that there was talks about having a tutorial put in place so that everyone who starts play project stealth outta the digital box will know what to do and if Not there is always people like myself and many others that would be willing to help.

Pretty much what they both said. Unless they decide to take time out to make a Matchmaking system, then it's going to be more based around you rather than the game helping you out. With more in depth tutorials and perhaps a way for hosts to show which types of players they want to play, you should be able to find your level of player more easily than before.

Oh, and there's Agent. He will help you. ;)
If you haven't noticed, I'm REALLY good at making a simple response into a wall of text.

Matt, just install Xfire and Agent will be glad to guide you. The game is hard when you start on your own.

I didn't intend to make a personal plea when I created this thread.  Reading my post again I can see how it can be interpreted that way, however.

I was more concerned about growing and maintaining the player base for this project.  I'll try to explain what I'm thinking.

When a game is difficult to learn, it can be quite discouraging for new players.  Thus, many will leave the game and not develop into intermediate players.  A small group of hardcore fans of the project will become experts at the game.  I'm worried that this will lead to an unbalanced and limited player population.

At any one time I fear there will be some new players, very few intermediate players, and several experts.  Most of the new players will come and go as they get frustrated with the steep learning curve.

Anyway, I really appreciate the offers of help/guidance.  Are the Chaos Theory MP PC servers still running?

Well Project Stealth, isn't the only game that looks intimidating, for example, if you explain deeply of what it's like to play SC2, I think 80% of the people will just tell the game to "F(ck off"

The one thing I know that will suck people in, is that the gameplay is always different, multiples of strategies, different outcomes, different bull*hit.

You can't oversimplify this project to the point of where the mercenary has an iron sight and 30 bullets and 3 straight bullets will kill you, and the spy only has 1 gadget to choose from and it has no limit.

Chaos Theory is still kicking, just the players are sucky since all the best players almost left, there is not much challenge.

You're right, simplifying the game is a bad idea.  Is it possible to have accessibility and depth at the same time?

I guess improved tutorials and the player skill hosting option are all that can be discussed right now.  Community game coaches are a pretty cool idea too.

None of this really extra stuff really matters until the core gameplay is finished, I guess.  Just trying to keep myself busy while I wait for this project's release.  :P

As long as Project Stealth tutorials are just as good as the StarCraft 2 ones are, I will be very happy. (Note I do understand the difference in genre, but the quality can still be the same)

StarCraft what it did, gave you the major basics without spoiling anything, basically even taught you the keybinds and let your brain do the rest. That's what PS should do, and that's what CT did not. Who knew at the start that holding "E" would turn your gun on without laser? Or  that the laser sight gave the noise?

I might cry. A post from Dread talking about Agent that doesn't sound demeaning or disrespectful. I couldn't be more proud. :'(

We could have some experienced players set up some noob teaching games.  Around the launch of the game I'm sure some of us could take some time to set up lobbies and teach players who feel overwhelmed.  We teach them, they teach others, hopefully it'll grow.

But again, the best way to learn this game is throw yourself through the gauntlet.  Some words of encouragement go a long way.  Maybe during the loading screens: "Don't give up if you are struggling!  This game takes patience and experience!"

I  think I just got insulted after giving a praise, that is so weird.

I added a point to the FAQ section of the site:
There will be a good tutorial and we'll provide general hints on gadgets and strategies, and hopefully also per-map, during loading screens.
