Hey guys, before you start programming... (I don't know if this topic has been already discussed) but I'd like to give some inputs:

In PT and CT you have a CD-Key. You can register as many accounts as you want to. People start playing with their (real)acc. With time (the reasons are different) they start creating lots of acc's.
Sometimes you play good old friends without having any idea about it.
Sometimes you play really ennoying people who join with a fakeacc and just want to have some fun by provocating other people because they feel very anonimous.

If we change the log in system like we have in xfire or skype, where you have 1 acc but you can change your username, the anonity will be lost. Hopefully some people will stop acting like fools.
The possibilty to change names is still given, but you can see "who" it is.

Splinter Cell is really a fun game, but sometimes it's really frustrating how people act. Hopefully the climate will turn into a better one.

What do you think about?

Good Idea. We could be able to see their actual profile name, so like even if you're with a different name, I can see the user is Ch1qu1ta or w/e your profile name may be.

Bionic-Blob

people will still smurf by using different profiles, different accounts, etc. only way is to tie an account to their UT key. maybe epic will include that, who knows.

Exactly. Like this you can change your onlinetag/name how often you want but the anonimity we had in PT and CT will be lost.
We will need rules as well. Name won't be able to change ingame.

I don't know how it works technically, but it should be possible.

Counter Strike works with an equal system. Maybe it would be even helpfull to complicate the registration. You'll need an email....stuff like that...

Tidenburg

or just on account per global IP...

There should always be the possibility of smurfing. As annoying as it is, smurfing allows great players to have fun without pressure. They can even try new things, that don't always work, without having the newbies chant "I beat Timmy! He's not so good. He obviously cheats".

So for me one account, many profiles works fine.
To my understanding, the account is attached to the cd key and that's it. The person signs into the game online, and should be able to change his name if they want, but the account will still be the same. This way, when Blacklisting someone. You ban their account and not the name. Thus they can't come on as a different name.

Although, I think all this depends on how UT 3 works and the sign in procedures.

Agreed.

Overstatement

I'm getting the impression that you people don't play mods that often. If you did, you would know that this area is not likely to be changable.

K I'm sorta with Chiquita on this..  and i don't really care if you tell me oh.. theres nothing wrong with smurfing.. well actually there is .. Besides of pressure , Woopedy doo so you have a bad day doesn't mean you have to hide behind another name because your ashamed .. which in my mind is quite pathetic. Plus For the people they do add to thier friends list via online.. BEFORE X fire was involved THEN YOU CANT FIND THEM BECAUSE EVERYONE IS SMURFING LIKE A WHORE / GIVES THEM FREE LIBERTY TO ACT LIKE A DOUCHE BAG 2. Not everyone is going to have Xfire.. there are some who just don't like it .. because of lag and other reasons...

-Thanks Murdy for da Sig <3  xD

Nobody is perfect. We all have good AND bad days. Sometimes I win, sometimes I get pwned by really bad players.

Trying to protect a name or acc is ridiculous. It's like playing rank with one acc only with a good partner against worse players.
You index yourself by playing with different acc's. Each has a meaning:
1st acc: I rock
2nd acc: got a bad day
3rd acc: playing with music
4th acc: trying out something new
...

That's okey, but do you need to hide your real identety?

Some people do this because they feel anonimous:
5th acc: annoying people

That's what I'd like to avoid. You have the ability to change your "status" but you can't hide your identety!

Smurfing also had the advantage of not being who you are. In CT and PT, people would join servers then upon realizing who they were playing would quit. .ck, -US, S.A.S. and others had to deal with people joining then leaving simply because they did not want to play against them.

As Overstatement said, I don't play too many mods. So I'm not sure how signing in will work. So far, CT Versus, is the only one that makes me sign in twice. An account name and a username. I am not sure if this is now the standard but limiting a person to one account is riddiculous. What if my brother wanted to play. He's not gonna play using my guy - make your own guy. Thus one account, many profiles.

Tal

has this ever happend to you:
I was playing and got disconnected once off ubi. I try to login but it tells me my account is already logged in. When that happened I had to make a new account and use it and a while later I could use the account I play with. Wouldnt it suck if your stuck outside of the game and have to wait until you can login? No need for that IP/CD-Key thing thats like CS:S...
Some people are idiots who like to annoy others but that usually doesnt make much of a difference to me cuz as soon as I get a game going then he cant get in can he? What you could do is have a blacklist that bans the users IP instead of the account.

As previously said people use different accounts for stuff such as rank account, fun account, bad day account and test account... cant take that away from people man its just a must in the game...

Actually, you only have to close the game and reopen it.

Overstatement

I have an idea! Since this conversion is futile...we can't do anything with the CDkey or accounts. Why not have a server setting that makes all the players anonymous? Replace the name with Player1, Player2... or red, blue...
