You hear a minor explosion, then you hear a kind of wave sound ( the field or particles setting up ) correct?

Overstatement

You would think the thing that creates the EMP would make sound, not the EMP itself. There are two ways EMP works, it either emits (leaks out) or it explodes. Grenades tend to do the latter (even smoke, apparently). And explosions make noise.

Gawain

leaks out????
it just makes "BUUUUUM"

Overstatement

Yeah, it leaks out. EMP is energy and just like any other energy, you would think it would be emitted. When we master EMP to the point that it can be created by a grenade, I would think contain electronics with a EMP generator that produces the energy like a radio rather than a result of a chemical process that produces explosions (probably of a nuclear variety).

Gawain

an emitter would have to be very very strong and do the whole spectrum of frequencies to destroy electronics.

Overstatement

A very strong emitter we can someday do. An explosion that generates EMP but doesn't destroy the entire building is breaking the laws of physics. This is why I like chaff, it doesn't make sense so we can't have these kinds of discussions but believable enough that you could think it's some kind of weird science that your mommy never taught you.

What if spies were in the electro magnetic field or pulse as well?  Wouldn't it like short circuit their gun or their NVG?  And yes, the bummm sound was the kind of wave sound I was thinking of.  It is just like bummmm    mmmmm    mmmmmm in a wave pattern.

That would be interesting if chaff worked on spies as well wouldn't it?  Not exactly saying it should be added at all, but it would be interesting.

Gawain

no. we don't wanna alter the gameplay too much.

Honestly, I could care less how EMP "really works". This is a game where we fire microcameras out of gun that can fire sleep gas. It's also a game where there's a suit that turns people invisible, and somehow you can detect spies with a magic laser.

Stuff doesn't have to work like it does in real life. It's a game and stuff works how we want it to work for balance purposes. And that's it.

How long would you say that you spend your time right in the middle of a chaff grenade? I personally don't really like to because I would easily be detected.  How exactly would this alter the gameplay too much, being that most spies don't spend their time right in the middle of a chaff grenade?  I think it would be nice to see your night vision get all fuzzy when you are standing in chaff that would turn anything else fuzzy.

dude you just proved my point again that you totally overrate your skills. if spies aggro a merc with smoke and chaff in close combat, they need their thermal view in order to see any more than the merc does.
(of course, the merc can counter this by charging out of the chaff radius and switching to blue vision; just to stop the flaming on aggro tactics...)

Farley4Fan

Only a fucking idiot would go aggro with chaff and not a flashbang.  And just like you said a merc can charge out of the chaff, and hey, so can the spy!  Maybe he needs to rethink what the hell he is doing before he throws a chaff and smoke at a merc before he actually does it.  A smart spy wouldn't even want to confront a merc, but if he had to he should use flash and smoke.  Any retarded spy can run around and throw his chaff or smoke and go " hEy My ThErMaL nO wOrKIng? ", maybe it is about time  spies thought about what they were doing before they run around mercs.  Smokes and flashes shouldn't work on spies because that would effect gameplay waay too much.  But chaff should definately screw with the spy's HUD or something.

Ummm... ever been triple naded?

Farley4Fan

Well umm, duh?  But why would you chaff someone instead of flashing someone?  You read it totally wrong.

Gawain

chaffing someone is in close combat it something totally common; chaff needs a little boost, not a nerf anyway.
