I think a BF2 or Counter-Strike esque style of common voice commands would be sufficient enough.

Video will tell you where you are, where the spy is and where he's heading. Besides, it's cool. Isn't that enough? We could also implement the exact same system as voice to disable it locally and server-wide.

the video showing where the spy is/what he is doing kind of sucks. i think hacking the comms via spy trap is just fine. No need for a random pop-up video to show where your other merc is. Use a mic. Do you see any helmets or suits that carry live action third person shots of another person constantly? No. You will see the person's face if they have a camera in front of them. Camnet should be left in the game I feel, but a third person random follower video....eh...not really the greatest of things imo. and yea, lag could suck on that one.

I think it'd be kinda nice for teamwork to be able to switch your screen to match your partners view. That'd be nice just as a quick thing. It'd be sorta like a camnet view whee you're seeing through your partner's eyes. I don't like making it 3rd person for the merc, it should just be that you see whatever your partner happens to be seeing at that time.

Be sorta nice for merc and spy.

I didn't actually say third person. I was thinking the exact view of your partner's screen pasted onto your screen (with visions too).

All the mics are saying they wouldn't need this and that's true for them. But you got to think about other's needs too. You could disable it if you don't like it like how you could disable mic locally.

And in most of the random servers I join, my partner doesn't have a mic either. I don't think calling them cheap would be a good solution there, here or anywhere.

frvge

Fact is, that a mic is cheap. Get one and come play with the big boys.

Don't dictate how I should play. Might as well tell me to join a clan and play in tournaments. (NEVER!)

And my point was, most of the random people I play with don't have mics and no one can tell them to get one.

Spekkio

Those random people probably wouldn't use any sort of communication anyway. I'm definitely against a PIP thing.

Gawain

good players communicate and play with friends most of the time. playing with random n00bs without communication is just dumb.

LOL............ Placeable cameras for mercs :D

So when a spy pass by, it will flash and send a picture to both mercs! :P

If my heart ever heals, I will make sure it'll never break again.

k, we'll have a "good players" option in the server create screen to disable the video.

maybe i didn't read it. But why not just have hot keys that send out messages of distress.

"Located a spy"
"I'm being aggro'd"
"My neck is caught in his arms"
"Do you have back pack?"

Things like that. That would be fine. Hell, it could be my awesome voice. I wonder if you could make a global thing too, so you could taunt the spies?

Edit: Now i see almost everyone posted the same as me. Make a global taunt. That would be fun.
"KHANN!!" no wait. that's not a taunt... ah well. we should make that.

Overstatement

Well since everyone here has hate for anyone who doesn't play the game exactly the same as them, lets move on to transmitting video/snapshots in camnet. Good or bad?

Westfall

thats not the reason. The idea is a faulty one. We are trying to pick the best for everyone.

Well if you never use the feature, that's not even a big deal. It might be helpful for some people who don't have the benefit of a partner who happens to always be online the same time you are. At some point, you may not have any friends online, that's just the way it goes. And the problem with random n00bs may not be that they have no mics, but it could be that they speak a different language. On PC I can remember playing with a lot of people from France or Germany or whatever that couldn't speak english. They were good players, but you just couldn't communicate easily with them. A feature like this could help make that easier.

While I agree that a mic is definitely superior, it's kinda nice to be able to just see what's going on with your partner, and I really don't think it'll break the game in any measure. The only question is if the feature is worth the time to code. And really since it's just displaying the same view as another player, it seems as though it'd be easy as pie to code.

-Use sticky cam/camnet animation
-Instead of viewing the camnet or sticky cam, you view your partner's view. You can't turn or anything, you see whatever your partner happens to be looking at.

It's easier to just have it be a live full screen thing rather than a small window, because it'd be easier to code that way.

Gawain

a quick communication system in bf2/2142 style is sufficient. this screenie/vid stuff is a nice to have feature, but it should be implemented carefully.
