I have a friend working as a sound designer at a fairly well-known professional game development company (I won't tell you which ;D)
He is pretty busy but if I send him a list of sounds once in a while he will record them and upload them somewhere.
If you want samples then give a few detailed descriptions of sounds you would like to hear and he will record them and send them to me.
We're not at that stage of development yet, but that could be a good idea when we get there. Why can't your friend join the forums?
