General / Off-Topic / Re: Can't play SCCT - ports
June 10, 2013, 08:51:29 PM
One I've read works is 8.C.H.2, my friend also got the same router from his new ISP (Sonera here in Finland) last week and so far so good. It's been working well and we haven't actually ran into any problems with it, although haven't been gaming nothing but Dota 2 on it. Didn't actually remember the check which firmware it had. Hope you get it working one way or the other.

Have you tried updating the firmware, or if it's already the latest version actually downgrading to another one. I have no experience with that router, but I was able to dig a couple forum posts claiming they weren't able to connect in Blizzard's games and updating/downgrading the firmware helped them. Might be worth a shot, take in mind that most of the time when you update you'll be losing all of your port setups etc. so you still might want to open them up afterwards just to be on the safe side.

General / Off-Topic / Re: CT mouseproblem
October 18, 2011, 06:11:17 PM
Tested stuff out yesterday since I had the game installed. I have a G500 Logitech mouse, so I set the polling rate between 500Hz - which is the standard for it - and 125Hz. The mouse didn't get any jagged movement or anything, but it was painfully slow at the same 8 sensitivity that I like to use at 125Hz.

Also I remember having some problems with my mouse before, went to default.ini in the system folder, and edited the line "ReduceMouseLag=True" to False, and it fixed it all, but I'm not exactly sure what the problem was, I know it was making the game pretty unplayable.

I doubt your CPU is bottlenecking anything really, but what ever floats your boat.

Random Access Memory is only used for fast momentary storaging of bits of data, it doesn't do any processing of its own.

Anyway, different programs running on different cores based on what's being used and done is how it would ideally work. Chances are it won't be utilized fully but atleast part-way, so at times you'll be having a core or two not really doing anything.

I myself would get the hexacore at the moment. It's easily overclocked and it's still pretty fast. My friend has one and it hasn't ran into a game that didn't run on max together with his 6000 series GPU. And it's atleast a tad more future-proof than a quadcore is.

Also I hardly doubt you will be ONLY gaming all the time, and especially optimizing everything so that nothing unnecessary for gaming is running on the background. I myself am constantly alt+tabbing out of games, browsing with 40+ tabs (Yes I kinda tend to let them bottle up until I mass close them), converting video files or audio files or something else at the same time. I also tend to watch movies or series on my other monitor when I'm playing something that doesn't require 100% focus.

Public Discussion / Re: Spawn spots ?
August 13, 2011, 12:35:26 AM
I think the Dynamic Spawn system could be explained quite well with how it works in Halo 3 and Reach. The game checks for the enemy teams location and then decides a spawn point based on the available spots and the distance from them to the enemy team, most of the time it also manages to spawn everyone behind some sort of a cover so that you won't get instantly killed.

It can also be used as an advantage. Knowing the possible spawn locations and the approximate distance the game atleast wants to achieve between the enemy player and the spawning player allows you to position yourself around the most likeliest spawn point and get a little bit of an jump start.

Mostly I'd like to see static spawns in PS, it's easier to balance around it and to build the map around it than having 2-4 different spawn points based on different variables and then trying to balance it all out. Of course, if you've got the time and dedication to do it then it could add up to some good gameplay.

ok... i am lost a bit here... so will the environmental outlines fade, if the seen objects are far away?

That'd make sense, unless you want to see shitloads of outlines crumbled together in the far distance. Having a threshold for it in a reasonable distance, that allows you to easily navigate but doesn't clutter the screen in MT is pretty much required for the whole Idea to work.

General / Off-Topic / Re: Mr.Mics Map pack 5 ?

Community Map Pack =/= Mr. Mic's Map Pack. Haven't checked lately but what's so wrong about rapidshare anyway? The setup file ain't that big either that it would really take long to download it even if you wouldn't get a full bandwidth.

Considering the maximum ideal temperature for the 8800GT under load would be around 80-85 degrees celcius, yours is holding up quite nicely, I'd say you did a good job with the paste, the usual application instructions are just guidances so a little more of it than what's told won't mean a big difference most likely a degree or a few higher temperatures if at all. As long as you can keep it as quiet as you want and still keep it under the ideal maximum and you're not planning to seriously overclock it, you're good to go for a long while.

Arma 2 midweek madness on steam, -80%, which leaves it at 5,99â,¬, bought it. Operation Arrowhead is also on some sale but it cost too much for me at the moment.

I've heard of "opposites attracting", but never "similars repulsing".

Fucking magnets, how do they work?

Public Discussion / Re: Oh, the destruction!
April 15, 2011, 06:56:34 PM
As long as the destruction is basicly win-lose situation for both sides I think it should be good. Like in Club House, if you destroy the walls at lunch or tea as merc, you get a fast access to the objective but so do the spies since they don't have to go thro the trouble of walking on the ceiling or thro the lasers. At lunch if you blow open the electric box you can nade the objective, but that even better for the spies because then they can run into lunch from the corridor.

Might be up for it sometime, haven't really played much so I basicly suck at the game but it would atleast be a learning experience.

Why you cannot use that heatsinks from VF1000?
If they fit all needed chips then just use them.

I guess I phrased that poorly. Of course you should use the ones that come with the VF1000, but be ready to buy some extra if the pack doesn't have enough sinks.

Most likely you'll be requiring more heatsinks, I think the ones Zalman supplies with the cooler work very well, it's just not enough to cool every component that requires it. I know my HD4850 would've required atleast 4 extra heatsinks.

General / Off-Topic / Re: Consoles DX'x' version?
March 22, 2011, 08:51:22 AM
The reason why consoles have such crappy graphics cards is that they're so old in design. PS3 was released on November 2006, that's at the same time cards like GeForce 7900 GTX and 7950 GX2 were the top end cards, now their performance is laughable when compared to even current generation graphics cards from the mid-price range.

PC Gaming is slumping around exactly because there's so many hardware choices that you can make and still want to play games. Because games have to be able to be played on multiple different kinds of GPU's with different architectures, developers can't take a full advantage on them. This isn't what's happening on the consoles because the hardware is always the same no matter which box you pick out of the store, a X360 will always be the same X360.

We've basicly pushed the over 4 year old pieces of equipment to their limit. Now if only a new generation of consoles would come out, with the current top end components used when producing them. I think we would be seeing huge leaps forward in graphics and possibly generally everything when it comes to gaming and yet still it would slowly start to wither away again when new stuff comes to the markets.

But as of now, PC gaming is being hindered by the consoles that are still dragging themselves behind, they were on-par back then, but not anymore.
