Title: Project Stealth Chatroom Info
Post by: LennardF1989 on March 24, 2008, 07:36:25 PM
Dear PS community,

As some of you might know, we have a chatroom up and running which can be used to discuss anything Project Stealth related. We, as the developers of the game, will be in this chatroom aswell and chat along with you guys.

Now the thing is, is that this chatroom is only accessable through an IRC client, which probably most of you have none to some experience with, so I will try to explain the use of IRC in a few small and simple steps.

First things first...
You need an IRC client, fortunatly for you, there are enough available on the web. If you know how to work with IRC, we recommend you to install mIRC (www.mirc.com). Note that this program is free, but will leave a "buy-me-now" screen after around 30 days, I don't have any problems with it, since it only beholds you from chatting for around 10 seconds.

Next there is my own IRC client, I've added a page to it, which should get EVERYONE, both advanced and super IRC noobs, into the chatroom, I can seriously recommend this client if you don't want to install mIRC, since it runs of website (http://irc.lennardf1989.com/PS.htm).

Last but not least, there is Mibbit (www.mibbit.com). Mibbit is also a webbased IRC client, but doesn't require flash, java or whatever to be installed. This client is a very good one if you're behind a firewall that doesn't allow connections to IRC servers through Java (as mine above).

Getting into the channel
In IRC, chatrooms are called channels, so when I talk about a channel, I'm talking about a chatroom.

In case you use mIRC, first connect to any server at irc.quakenet.org and then join" #ProjectStealth. You can do this by typing /join #ProjectStealth in the status window.

If you use my client (http://irc.lennardf1989.com/PS.htm) all you have to do is fill in a userame in the empty textbox and press "Join" afterwards, the client will then automaticly connect you to the right server and add you to our channel.

In case you use Mibbit, click the dropdown box next to "Server" and choose "Quakenet.org" out of the list. In the textbox next to "Channel(s)", type "#ProjectStealth" (without the quotes) and in the textbox next to "Nickname" type a name you wish you use whiles chatting. Simply press the "Connect" button now and you're ready to chat.

Rules
Ofcourse, there are some rules. Beside the basic ones (respect eachother, don't swear, no racism etc.) there are no real rules, just remind yourself to listen to the moderators (+ sign in front of the name) or developers (@ sign in front of the name).

Both moderators and developers can give a warning, kick or ban, but please, don't make us too.

You are free to ask questions ofcourse, it's only the question if we will answer it.

Final word
We hope to see you in the chatroom!

i joined irc regularly for about a week some months ago and there were 0-3 people there. nn...
besides, it's better to have all the discussions going on in one place.

The only real advantage is that it's a group conversation in real-time. Personally it's kind useless IMO.
