Title: Scrap Mine map
Post by: Stealth_chill on March 30, 2008, 06:45:59 AM
Ok, ive been working on this model all week. This is one of my 12 ideas for maps so far. ITs called Scrap mine. Scrap mine is an abandoned coal mine outside of colorado. All thats left is scrap metal, equipment, and rock. The model is here

(https://community.projectstealthgame.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg79%2FSplintacellDA%2Fimage.jpg&hash=db6904a0186c36ef6614ae6b882a78088c36db3f)

DOESNT SHOW ALL OF MAP SO DLOAD ALL OF MAP BEFORE COMMENTING PLEASE! thank you :)

STORY OF MAP:In Colorado there lies an abandoned coal mine. It has been stripped of all of its resources. all that lays ther now is crates, rocks, and scrap metal. But a small river at the bottom of the bridge is a great place to release the small pox virus from the ND 133's into the un-suspecting town down the river. From here is where the spies come in to try to stop this from happening while the mercs. try to stop them from foiling their plan.

FULL MAP:http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=b423857d4c0bae9f7ef4f93a38aed376
-There are many ventilation escape routes in this map due to the miners needing these vents to circulate the dust and other particles out of the mining area.
- There are 3 levels in this map.
1)top level which includes both spawns and 1 ND 133
2)Bottom level that includes the river and 1 ND 133
   3) Undergrown mine (place with transparent walls) which houses alot of rocks walls and equipment. its supposed to be a very dark and damp area. which again includes 1 ND 133
-There are a set of 3 ND133's in the area.
    1) by mercs spawn
    2) inside underground mine
    3) by river
-motion sensor located in the middle of where nd133 is by mercs spawn
-camera located in between 2 entrance pipes into the underground mine (not shown in model)

Also in the model i have labeled the ND 133's med kits and all the other good stuff that is important :)

i cant think of anything to really say now. if you have any questions. please please ask :)

Note: you need to have dloaded sketchup to see this i beleive. i dont know, either way you need to d-load the whole map to see everything. so please dont judge the map on that single screenshot cause thats not even close to seeing the whole map!

I remember you from Ubi, sure you remember me, Farleyfan.  I know this sounds stalker-ish but your name is Ron right?  For some reason I remember that, lol don't look out your window (wait til I get my telescope packed up and I'm out of there first)

SplintaCellDA (right?), I really like this idea.  Seems to me like a station style type of map.  Nice sketchup work btw, it's taking me forever to get that good.

WAT THE FACK!! Son of a biscuit I swear to God.  That always happens to me.  For some reason my posts never register or get deleted.  Seems like a nasty mod is playing tricks on me.  Mark my words, I'll find out who it is, then do uh, well, something to them.  And great.  I deleted the file by accident some time ago.  Hopefully I can find it on the host that hosted the picture.  Probably not.  Shit.

Sketchup is one of the most powerful and easiest tools to handle to express your ideas as fast as you think. Stealth_chill already made a strong job on this one week sketch. Your work looks great Stealth_Chill and I would like more details. I would also find it interesting to have a better idea of the size of the map.

Well, if you take a look at this, you will find (maybe you didn't know) that you can make some kind of useful pages to better express your ideas properly.

Here is a map that I made in Sketchup, a few months ago for a Half-Life 2 mod. I hope it will be enough useful... Here is the link.

Again, great job for your concept.
If you can implement more informative elements in your Sketchup map, it will be easier for everything you'll make later  :D.

NOTE:
If you were planning to make a Portfolio, creating Pages in your Sketchup maps and recording your travel through them could be totally useful for a Video (trailer) showing your works.

Yeah it's true ^^.
I think your map has truly a potential, but we will only see it once tested.
(do not take my previous post in anyway personal, I was taking the opportunity to give an advice about Sketchup to anyone interested in using it properly for their actual Portfolio)

wow thanks alot man! that makes me feel like my hard work really payed off! The size of the maps with would be reduced though because quite frankly the map feels a little to wide for my tastes. the width is too much and i was too far in the map to change it. i don't know how i would i would be able to give you the dimensions but if youwant me to make an even more detailed version of the map i indeed will. And this is only 1 of my 12 level ideas :)

Some important details could be missing, but Sketchup is all about sketching so you do not have to put all the details in it and anyway.. it's totally possible that your Official Map in the Game engine would change a lot during the production timeline.

Just add more "text message" in your map indicating what is where and why this is there. Just put more informative stuff to make us truly understand why and how great your work is. Just sell us your work  ::)

Just hope you didn't assume I was part of this Project, or maybe not actually in lol. If you want to share your ideas I suggest you to send a PM to Zedblade, Mr. Mic or anyother member of the Dev Team. This Project is awesome and their team seems to be like rock solid. This Project needs a strong Community for the future and it's already solid right now.

5 stars guyz! good job

You'll probably want to talk to the devs, because unfortunately they are chock full of map ideas and plans.  Hopefully at least one of your ideas make an impact and they take it into consideration.  I really like your mining map idea.  But one problem, seems a little boring as in the atmosphere.  Kind of like station.  Will it be creepy?  Cob webby?  Well lit?  All 3?  I know you didn't give details but the atmosphere is a key role in making the maps interesting and fun to play.  What will be unique about it?

Off topic:  How's Ubi forum goin?  Everyone still there like TMGB (lol retard), silent, etc...?

aw ship i thought u were cuz it said game level designer in it. i just assumed :P

and it is dark outside in time of the map. so it is dark outside but even darker in the underground map. there will be several lights in the mine illuminating the mine (barley). think a lil darker than warehouse.

Checked out the map and although I feel there should be more space between spy entrances and mercanary bases, that is a very easy detail to rectify. Very fucking nice map you have there, and although there is a few balance problems that could emerge, I can't see any point of dicussing them because only playtesting can prove if these will emerge :D.

About UE3, is the roboblitz one an old version or somthing? I used it at my friends house yesterday and the very easy things like right clicking to add a light source were gone! the textures window seems to have completly vanished aswell!

Roboblitz is a modified editor and engine.  Just like the Vegas 2 one would be if an editor ever comes out.

Different games have different features and properties.(eg, dimensions in RvS v. UT2k4)

Yes I know that but what would be the purpose of having the add light missing? His computer was acting a bit strange though, if you selected a face from a subtractive brush it would dissapear so I suppose I will have to try it on my pc first :)

Roboblitz is made with Unreal Engine 3.0
Rainbow Six Vegas & Vegas 2 are made with a heavily modified Unreal Engine 2.5 (what is totally different).
And yes, Wikipedia is most of the time WRONG.
And yes, when you launch R6 Vegas you can see Powered by Unreal Technologies, but it doesn't mean UE3 at all. Ubisoft never bought UE3.

Yes, R6V and Vegas 2 are powered by Unreal 3.  Ubi has stated so in the past, but I lack a link at the moment.

I believe SCDA is the Unreal powered Clancy game that runs on 2.5 still.

Ubisoft NEVER said that, IGN did and Gamespot did.
But anyway, they are really proud to see their Games being compared to the well popular UE3 Games. You can also determine this by looking at the shaders and the textures of both R6 Vegas games.

I'm telling you this because I talked with the Splinter Cell Conviction Producer at Ubisoft Montreal Studio. I told you, they never bought UE3, the only liscense they have is UE 2.5 and seriously why Ubi would by Unreal Engine 3 when they spent more than $XX 000 000 on their Assassin'S Creed Engine!!?

It doesn't make any sense.

I know, the first time he told me this I was "Are you serious!? loll You are all working with UE 2.5 since so much time LOLLL ?".

He answered that they were buying the old UE 2.5 license, what cost absolutely nothing for them and is now heavily modified. They are always using it and it's always more and more modified. Splinter Conviction is made the same way, I saw it myself, but I can't go deeper in the details.

Ubisoft put a lot of money in their Assassin's Creed engine and trust me, they will use this engine again for many other games. It's a logical choice, because Ubi has to gain back his $$$ from the Assassin's Creed development what cost... a lot, but they really wanted to innovate.

This isn't a Forum for Ubi lovers and the PS Forum is in no point a Ubi haters Forum dude, calm down. I talked about a common problem related to the actual consumers nowadays.

The point is, you think that all the Game Web Sites are telling the truth, but it isn't the case. END OF THE LINE.

And you know what? Even if my friends are at Ubi, it doesn't mean I like Ubi. Seriously, it's not the first place I wanna work for, but it's far from be the first one, but! they have great features to offer.

So I strongly prefer for the moment to work on mods or to start my own project in parallel. 8)

NOTE:
Oh and if Ubisoft never existed, you would probably never see a PS game. This is somehting you should at least admit and it's from our deception facing DA that we all want a Porject like PS. Thx Ubi to be that bad. Talking about DA, we had a conference and a lot of discussion with the Co-Producer of Assassin's Creed and a Game Designer who worked on SC:DA and I know why this game was a failure... lol the reason sucks= but choice in the game design resulting in a bad atmosphere during all the production time line, people working for "Yeah yeah yeah we are working on a new Splinter Cell, but you know... it could be worst...". This is definately not a magic formula. So when I come here and look at the Community we have, the Dev Team we have and all the potential PS have... I can say: "Dude! What an amazing Project PS is becoming!".

I wouldn't say UBI suck at ideas, they created the game you still play every few days, SvM, they essentially created the idea we are working off, their only problem is when it comes to developing alot of the time they fuck it up because they don't listen to how they can improve.
Title: Re: Scrap Mine map
Post by: Xris on April 04, 2008, 02:58:35 PM
Yes they didn't listen when people were telling them what needed to be fixed on the UBI forums, and they didn't release patches.  I had faith when CT came out that it would be better then PT in this respect, but it wasn't it was the same.  And then they brought out DA and everything went down hill from there.  Sure they have other good games RSV and RSV2, but they screwed over SC and SvM.

And I totally agree with both of you guys ;D and four years ago from now, I realized that my place was in the video game industry to try to change at least all this. So, I'm working freaking hard to achieve it, but do not think because your are posting what their problems are that you will convince them that hey really have a problem to solve.

A lot of designers have their Ego above themselves and for sure they will never listen to you. This is why I'm always running on as many forums as I can and being part of the Gaming  Community... I have to. Ubi isn't really doing it and if ever I really work there... for sure I'll try to do something about it.

You know... Since 2004, I posted all the problems that Bungie had with Halo 2 and I was always giving them all the possible solutions to solve the problems. You know what? I been banned 4 times and I never did anything wrong. They just wanted me to shut up, because I was pointing out all was wrong, how and why. The "Forge" is something I suggested years ago lol and you know what lol... after al l these years... Halo 3 has all the same exact problems that Halo 2 have. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Listening to the community, heu... lies <<<< Splinter Cell didn't change, R6 Vegas didn't change, Halo didn't change... They are doing their games for themselves.

So YES. Project Stealth SvM is the ultimate solution and I'm so happy tp see how much efforts the Dev Team is putting in Project. The Developers do not listen to their community, they only want their fan base, their followers... PS is different, so you have the advantage to make it a lot better.

Probably the mod of the year ;)
Unreal Contest :D ?

Why Ubi?!  Why Splinter Cell then Rainbow then Ghost Recon!?  Why all the change!?!  Although, I must say that Ghost Recon's change wasn't all that bad.  I don't know why they insist on dropping everything that made their series' successful.

This got so off topic huh?

On Topic:  uh, nice idea lol

If you have SC:CT or UT3 it could be a nice idea to make the rough design of the map.

I feel the map a bit too much empty for the moment  ::), but I really don't know how it looks like in your mind ^^.
