Have any of the developers had a look at the frostbite engine (BF:Bad Company)? I know it probably isn't released yet but when I was looking at it personally I thought that the destruction was a bit to exaggerated. I know this kind of stuff is ground breaking for online games (although not all games could use it) but the fact throwing a grenade at a houses wall will destroy the whole thing removes any cover aspect and is ridiculously unrealistic. Though I suppose thats more to do with the games settings than the engine. It also uses fully dynamic lighting (meaning you can reposition the sun during gameplay and shiz like that) but then I started reading more into it and realised how little I know about UE3's full capabilities.
Are there any major differences between the two? (Apart from frostbite uses C#)
MOAR? You uneducated people ask?

If this was available as an option when Project Stealth started would you have used this instead? There seems to be alot of fuss about how great the shading system is ???
off topic, but seriously, why does everyone have softcore porn in thier sigs? it makes this site NSFW

Because softcore porn owns! and furge wont allow any of the hardcore! so we all settle with teh softcoreZ
not that you should be at this sight while at work... ;)
Seriously though....there are hundreds of game engines out there, limited only by the fact that it is cheaper to buy a liscence to an existing engine then to create your own. You can pretty much take it for granted that all engines are written in C++ or similar.
Game Editors is another matter entirely....which is very important and necessary for non-programmers to help develop the engine.
Because PS is mod only....we have limited use of the engine, but due to the nature of Ur 3.0....we do have access to a lot capabilities.
We cannot customize the engine though, this would come with buying the liscense.
We chose Unreal because people on the team have the most experience with it, while going open source is always possible....it is pretty much creating your game from scratch.
C# is slow in execution, but fast with prototyping. Easier with datastructures, but not meant for high-performance low-level operations.
But... Destructable Walls! ACTUAL DESTRUCTABLE WALLS!
who cares what the code structure is, I wanna blow craters in vents and watch the spies tumble out.

Obviously you don't know what softcore porn is. Softcore porn is the late night crap they have on cinemax or showtime. This is barely pg-13 stuff on this site. Everyone changed their sigs to mimic mine, seriously. It wasn't untill I added the sig I have now that these types of sigs started popping up.
Naked Women in sigs = Zed Fanboy XD

Where is the point in blowing up everything? The only thing that this is doing is messing up the level design lol.
Destructible stuff is cool, but destructible map is bad.

then you must hate CT maps
No, because you can't destroy everything in CT, hardly anything for that matter. Don't forget that destruction in the map can be made for good gameplay and perfectly balanced situations. Think of the bulldozer on factory or the crane on Steel Squat. Only preset destruction can ever be balanced. And any kind of balanced destruction is fine by me.

I don't see how destroying certain areas of the map=bad. If anything it opens new areas up where another objective might be hiding (i.e. squat, factory). A good environment that has unique touches/situations makes the map more diverse and interesting.

I'm pretty sure he means having a fully destructable map is a bad idea for this type of gameplay. And it is. It's a bad idea and would really make the game suck.
However, having a few predetermined area that can be destroyed like Facoty or Squat is something we can do, not in every map, but where it makes sense.

Certain areas, not really if they're well thought out.
basically any destructible area should probably be bad for the merc in some way, such that he really doesn't want it to get destroyed because it either hinders his movement or it aids spy movement. the Vents in aqua or the machine room in Factory are good examples of this.

Lol that's exactly what I said.
6 posts saying the exact same thing lol...
Destructible stuff is cool, but not the whole map. You could just break every edges and the spy would not be able to hang anywhere I guess.
Make that 7 :D
