Title: Long time no see
Post by: Pretend3r on April 30, 2008, 07:33:54 PM
I got an unexpected call from mr. AgentX_003

Apperently he is promoting the mod like a mofu. ;). I saw the few vids and screens and must say i'm really impressed with how this mod is coming along.

Might be strange for me to say, but i might actually play it. But dont feel like buying UTIII since that game is boring as hell with the exception of a LAN party.

UT3 boring? What the hell...

It is boring.

It's the standard recycled FPS without all the acrobatics that are present in Quake variants.

that pretty sums it up. The only gametype(s) i find intresting is CTF and maybe some occasional (T)DM

Pfff... duels and 5v5 Warfare are awesome. vCTF is also great, but it all depends on your map knowledge.

Also, When i installed Q3 lately, all the textures were a mix of pink, blue and green colour. Same happens in every other quake engine powered games -.-

You got the gametypes you like. I got the gametypes I like. I personally think that vehicle combat in an Ut game is balls.

Huh? Acrobatics in Quake? Like... jumping?

UT3 blows Quake (everything) away.

Would you guys recommend buying UT3?  I know you'll all say yes cuz it's got the editor etc...  But is the game itself as good as they say?  I was gonna wait for it on xbox this June, but I'm thinking about getting it this week for PC.

In terms of Engine and Visual Quality, yes... in terms of Gameplays, Balance and Level Design... hell never. UT3 isn't really taking advantage of the controls, it's mostly all about opened space or corridors... lack of jumping, wall-jumping, crouching, covers and interactivity.

1. There is jumping.
2. There is the wall-dodge.
3. There is no crouching (i don't see a need for it, anyways).
4. The maps are filled with covers (that's why they arent just huge boxes).
Interactivity comes from the net play, so i don't see your point.

I guess he's just trying to sound smart now... there's no lack on these things in any way. There is even crouching btw ;).

It's still a boring ass game. It's only fun when you're playing with friends (like at a lan party or something).

Yes, I recommend it. Just imagine you buy PS instead of UT3, they made it possible for us to mod their game and make an awesome mod for it, they deserve the money.

And it's only like 30 dollars at www.cd-wow.com (no shipping fees at all), my version came from there :) Very happy with it. Shipping is also very fast ad support is awesome! If you wanna get games for bottom-prices, go there (Cod4 for 25 euros!!! It's 45 in the retail shops)!

Does it support gamepads?  I really don't feel like hopping online and getting raped by some vet mouse/keyboard users, because I suck with mouse.  If so, can you jump/crouch etc with it?  For some reason on some PC games they leave out key funtions on the gamepad even when there is plenty of buttons to use.  (Crysis leaves out prone mode on gamepad as well as leaning, but I still can beat it on highest difficulty with ease)

Good thing this thread relates to PS or the original posted topic.

I said lack of these features properly applied to be used by the player = poor level design
Yah... you can jump, but you will not find a lot of advanced jump tactics in UT3 taking the gameplay to another level.

If yes, show me a video or a fews images, because I don't see these features used that much often and not many maps properly using these.

Here are some random pics from my friend Google...

Forget the jump fonction...

Oh oh watch on the left there a fence that you can jump over it and covers on the right.... not a huge area with nothing at all hey?

Typically UT3... lack of level design. Let's make corridors and open area and hey we made a map!
