Title: Breakable glass.
Post by: Blank Man on June 20, 2008, 05:47:42 AM
In CT when you shoot glass, it always shatters, and the first bullet that hits it breaks the glass, but doesn't actually go through. For example, River Mall. when a spy is hacking Kiosk, you have to shoot the glass, then shoot him. Wouldn't it be cooler if bullets penetrate it, rather than making the first bullet shatter it (if it's not boolet proof). And maybe depending on what kind of glass it is (shatter proof or not) it could shatter or bullets can leave their marks, yet still go through.

"boolet proof"  :D

Fairly minor detail.  Wouldn't really matter either way.

Actually it would. A lot of spies get away in River Mall BECAUSE the glass breaks THEN you can actually shoot them. But they stop hacking once the glass is broken.

Just shoot the glass, when you get the chance in River Mall. It's no big deal really.

Though I'd like to be able to shoot through glass like you, and I don't see why it shoulden't be implentet.

No, yeah. I'm not whining about it, I just thought it would be a better alternative to (always) shattering glass.

Yet another "nice to have" feature I guess. It isn't really essential but it would be nice.

I haven't seen any glass in UT3. Have anyone else?

If we can do it and it helps the game, then you should do it. This should be done, even though it's minor.

I can see Blankman's point here. The norm now is to shoot out most everything on practically all the maps. While it is a minor detail, would be sweet to headshot a spy through the glass only to see the blood splatter on it and the glass crack all over. It should take 2 shots to actually break the glass. I'm pretty sure a bullet would clear through the glass though. As opposed to CT's impenetrable, but all or none in terms of breaking it.

Shouldn't this be up to the mapper?

it would stop the brainless glass destruction at the beginning of the round and the cracked glass would provide a new optical cover. though i think there should be several types of glass the map creater can choose from and there should be some minor scattering.

I was hoping you would understand.

This all depends on what type of glass it is. Shatter proff glass (the glass with the steel wire in it) should take a few shots, the first bullet putting a clean hole through the glass, and cracking it where the bullet has penetrating, but NOT breaking, then break on the second shot into tiny tiny pieces like it does, whilst picture frame glass / single glazed windows should be breakable with one bullet, the bullet should still penetrate through though. Bulletproof glass should break after multiple (say 3 shots in exactly the same place). Bullet proof glass should only break around the part it has been shot though.

(Not very clear but you get the jist.

Oh and btw, I'm all for this idea, it's not a biggie, but i guess would add realism which is always a plus, would add to gameplay too.
