Title: Icing on the cake : Props for Extraction Suggestion
Post by: AgentX_003 on November 22, 2008, 03:36:27 AM
Ok another thing on my mind is this, seeing all the time when a disk is being extracted can be very bland

Ie. if its a map of a museum maybe have the spy steal a diamond and put it into a breif case :P  ? ? ...

Discuss.

I wouldn't mind having different extraction things. I don't think any of them are animated so the only extra work would be modelling and a bit more coding, but still like you say in the title. It's really just icing on the cake and not something that should be high priority.

you can call it icing on the cake which certainly improves the athmosphere or you can call it confusing newbs and destroying the single constant guideline what to do on a map (eg same objectives with same look). so if you go for it, you better have a very clear hud showing the objective type.

That's indeed the hardest point. Perceived consistancy. Doesnt have to actually be consistant, as long as people think it is :p.

I don't see how this would be confusing....its still an extraction...a diamond only differs from a disk by what it is...the point of dropping it off is still the objective. If that's "confusing" to "newbs"...well, it wouldn't be because its the same exact thing. There will still be the option of knowing where the objectives are yes? With a toggle option? If thats the case, then there is absolutely nothing confusing about finding the objective and bringing it to its drop-off point.

When i'm looking around the map for the place to steal the disc I don't look for the terminal; it is a pitch dark room after all. I use the HUD, which would be no different.
