The poll system is there so not just one person decides on what happens, but the majority, THAT'S called democracy. If you think someone did something wrong, it doesn't mean the rest will think that as well (example: Animal experiments, some think it's fine some others think it's bad under any circumstance).

If you think people would have just agreed on it, just because there is no "normal" no in the poll options, well... I don't have words for it then, but I think I'll call it naïve.

That's not true, a database-check (which frvge did out of curiosity I guess) showed that it were votes done by non-faked accounts.

fine, i dont wanna discuss if they are accounts from the same owner or not but i wanna know how u guys could trust ur "database research" because lets suppose that a person has 2 comps in his/her house, then uses 2 dif emails on each. so that person would be able to have dif accounts with dif emails in different computer IPs right? wouldnt that be an effective way to work around ur research?

in short; how does that work?

In case you have more PC's hooked to the internet there are two ways to achieve this:

1. A router
2. Two modems (as in, you bought teh internetz two times from an ISP)

A usual household would have option 1.

A router is directly connected to your modem, which is connected (on it's turn, mostly through coax) to your ISP. Your modem will request your ISP a IP adress, this can be either static or dynamic.

Static means you only will get one IP address of them everytime the router "asks" for it (as in, no variation).
Dynamic means you will get an IP address which is currently available, so it may change everytime a router "asks" for it.

Now, your router knows the IP it has been assigned, so it knows how to access the internet. Now imagine 2 PC's being hooked to the Router. Because it's a rule IP's can NEVER be the same, a router has it's own subnet (usually between between the 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.255.255 range, or a 10.0.255.255 version of that).

On it's turn a PC will ALSO ask for an IP adress, not directly from the ISP, but from the router. And since we just figured a router has it's own subnet, it will assign you a free ip adress within the range. Same goes for the second PC.

These subnet IP's are LOCAL only, which means, if you would tell someone in the Netherlands to look at your website at 192.168.50.2, he would either get a 404 or access his own network.

Thats why the internet works with ports. Because you can tell a router to forward a call to a specific PC in the subnet.

Say your ip is 82.144.133.222, and your webserver is running on PC1 (192.168.50.2) on port 80.
In order to let someone access that webserver, you tell the router to forward ANY calls on port 80 to the local IP 192.168.50.2 and he would be able to see it's contents.

As you can see in this story. It wouldn't matter wheter you have either 1 PC hooked or 10 PC's, your ISP IP (which is used to identify you on this forum) stays the same UNTILL the router asks for a new one.

Unless you/your school/whatever bought it's own ISP subnet (which my school did, you can do this at ICANN for example), you would be able to get a publicly accessable IP (as in, non-local) which changes everytime you re-access the internet.

I hope this learned you a little more about how the internet/routers work.
