Option 3: Windows

Option 4: Other?

Hi all,
As I'm investigating cross-platform stuff, I'm actually wondering on what kind of OS you guys would like to run PS.
Our main aim, ofcourse, is Windows. Although, with the Linux/Mac OS X clients coming up, we have to keep those in mind as well.
Please vote on the OS you, with all your heart, want to use for PS. If you're a hardcore Linux user, I could imagine you would vote Linux.
Lennard
PS. It's only allowed to choose 1 OS, this is for organisations sake on my part.
Where's MS-DOS?
Where's iPhone?
There's no UT3 announced for iPhone nor MS-DOS. So those options are not available.
Sarcasm Alert!
Playstation 3 plz
playstation 3 7 core processor owns all pc and macs, it's graphics are so awesome that it fuckin blows my mind. its very powerfull, more powerfull than any other computer in the whole world it can even run a linux OS! fucking owned!
lol... just kidding i voted for windows. i just think its funny how some console noobs think that consoles are more powerfull than high-end desktop computers.
Erm, but srsly. Ps3 can run UT3 mods.
How do you imagine having the devs port a _shooter_ (ok, it's just 1/2 of a shooter) to a _console_ where you play with a _pad_. Sickos.
Well, we "could" port it to XBOX360 and PS3, though, I don't have either of those consoles, so debugging would be impossible.
Second, Microsoft is being a bitch for UT3 mods.
Third, PS3 is still crapping about the sound (so we can make the mod for PS3, only without our own sounds).
So, consoles are a no for now. If we win a license or the consoles stop bitching, we could reconsider again.
As said, Windows is our main aim, but ofcourse we want everything to work just fine on other OS' as well, although, it won't have the highest priority (we'll keep it in mind when developing 3rd party stuff, if any, though).
People who use Linux are retarded.

People who use Linux are retarded.
Guess what this server runs... CentOS... =]
Dedicated server for PS will probably only run on Linux. Why? Windows licenses for datacenter usage are really expensive, so there aren't many cheap AND legal Windows hosts for game servers :)
$2,999 per CPU per year. Most high-end game servers are Dual-Quads, so... 6 grand on licensing alone.
Which is the reason why most gameserver providers just use common Windows XP machines, or use Linux.
I guess we have around 50 unique visitors a day and only 14 votes after one day. Please vote everyone, it won't hurt you and it will let me know which OS (besides Windows) needs more focus.
Even though you're a Windows user, please vote on it.

Allow me to expound...
I wasn't talking about people who use Linux for the one (or few) things that it can actually do well. I'm talking about the people who think that they are "sticking it to the man" (Microsoft) by using an OS that is not as widely supported and has issues of its own.
(and, FWIW, your reason for using Linux is that it's cheap, not that it's necessarily better at the task at hand)
Nothing wrong with using Linux as a secondary OS for specific tasks. There is something wrong with thinking you're smarter than the rest of the world when you use Linux as the primary OS on your PC. And since this poll is directed toward the people who would be
PLAYING the game, not
HOSTING the game, I was referring to that segment of the population.
Of course, it's much easier to make absolute generalizations and see people nitpick at you :).

QFE, a few people in my computing class are like that, I want to hit them. ;D
Windows and Mac. But being a Windows user which will obviously be supported I voted Mac :P.

Just because they know how to handle Linux? You're just jalous.
I'm all for stuff like Ubuntu ;) I even have it installed for a while, but that was just to have a look around the OS, not for permenant use. The people who use it because they feel that they're doing somthing rebel-"ish" are just pathetic.
Linux, i made a thread about PS using linux a while ago!!! linux ftw
I'd like to bump this thread.
For the people that use/voted Linux and Mac, will you have a problem if we only release the game for Windows?
Or is having a Windows installation besides Linux/Mac amoung the standards these days?
If those people are retarded enough to install Linux over their Windows partition then Project Stealth is better off without them ;)

Yet you say you've only had a look at the OS, thus admit that you don't really know what you're talking about, retard.
Windows please...the majority has it
Windows please.
However I'm dissapointed in the lack of PSP support. No thought of Project Stealth while on the go? Ugh, weak.
Correct me if I am wrong, but is this not a mod of Unreal Tournament 3? Meaning that you require UT3 to run it? Does that not mean that any OS that runs UT3 could potentially run Project Stealth? Since UT3 only currently runs on Microsoft Windows does that not mean that Project Stealth could only be produced for Windows?
Would someone be able to clarify?
A Linux version of UT3 is in the works, and probably also an OSX version, but I'm not sure on the latter.

No, it was confirmed. But AFAIK it's still not released. Same goes for the Linux version.

Why stop there? Make a PS application for my G1 phone!!
I could develop it for the PSP though... Actually, that idea already crossed my mind a couple of times last year.
My sarcasm detector just went kaput. How would this work if it really isn't sarcasm?
PS:PSP
Just rolls off the tongue doesn't it?
I vote other, i want it on my Gameboy Advanced.
Gameboy Color kills the advanced ANY DAY of the week.

I was pretty much serious in that post, although due to the lack of time I just keep it to UT3 now. Even though there are numerous of free 3d engines for the PSP that could be used.
This one being the most promosing: http://www.ltestudios.com/projects/uplink-10/
As it's based around Irrlicht, which is a pretty easy engine to use.
It be so awesome if you guys could make an OSX version.
We've decided not to put it on anything and make a PS dedicated Console with electronic sensory gloves you wear to control your character, so you can fear yourself holding the rifle when you snipe a spy or fear the snap of the bones as you break a merc's neck.
why do I keep typing fear when I mean fear.
damnit.
fear. I fear good.
wtf is wrong.
I fear your fear is ungrounded.
BTW, if we have a good place in MSUC, Epic will port our sound to the PS3, which means we'll be able to release on PS3! YAYAYAYA.
k, let's first get a good place in MSUC... ;D

as far as thats concerned they are already starting phase 3 :| soo Hopefully something is done about that.
how many 'phases' are there??
4
do you have to enter something in every phase of the competition? Have you guys entered anything else in phase 1 and 2 if so..? Have you entered anything into phase 3?
We entered an UT3-model of the Spy into Phase 1. And we won third place :D. Well, kebab and Lennard.

Could you clear that up for us please frvge.
I planned the Merc for Phase 2, but the other teammembers thought it was too much work which, I have to agree, distracted from the real purpose: Phase 3 and Phase 4.
AFAIK Phase 3 hasn't started yet. We hope we'll be able to send in some alpha-version. Depends on how far we'll get. The beta version, again, if all goes well, should be our entry for Phase 4.
Do you mean the beta of PS?
Yes.
Awesome.
Windows Vista and/or 7 here.

So if you skip a phase does it matter?
No, they are completely separated.
Voted for Linux.
And with Icculus'es latest mailing list entry earlier this month, the client shouldn't be toooooo far away anymore.
Alright i figured this would be an appropriate place to ask this question without starting a new topic to ask it.
I own a Dell Studio 15. Here are the specs:
32 bit operating system
IntelÃ,® Coreâ„¢ 2 Duo T6400 (2.00GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
2.00 GB RAM
Video card: 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450
Windows Vista
So... I acknowledge the fact I dont know too much about the video card/ pc gaming area all together but this game looks like something i would definitely invest money in to be able to play it. I am originally a ps2 console owner and splinter cell orig- chaos theory. So, my question is, is my pc up to par- if not- what steps i would have to take to make it so (suggested cards or other items and estimated prices).
Or should i just invest my money in a console such as the 360 or ps3 hoping either this mod becomes available on the ps3 or cross my fingers and see is convictions is legit on the 360.
Thanks in advance.
voted for windows, because thats what I have, although I think that PS should be made for all OS's / consols (when ready) to give everyone an equal chance to play, just my thoughts.
@ OConnor: it should be able to play (your talking about ut3 right, or the mod, or both lol)
heres the ut3 spec

Ok, so i shouldnt have a problem?
Next question: Logitech controller?
Is that what pc'ers used to play splintercell on the pc
or mouse and keyboard?
i personally cant see playing as a spy using a mouse and keyboard.
Your graphics card might be on the slow side. It's a laptop right?
The rest is ok.
Spy with keyboard is easy: mouse for camera and keyboard for movement. In most cases faster and more accurate than analog sticks ;)

to solve that problem you can use a program like xpadder or pinnacle profiler which will easily emulate the keyboard and mouse to a controller.
Its what alot of folks are doing right now to play Splintercel chaos theory Versus with a controller on the pc, who aren't keyboard and mouse savvy and despite that ubi hardcoded the keyboard buttons , theres ur work around :)

I tried the xpadder thing and it worked pretty good. However, it still bugs me that I have to push a button to walk in slow mode, and push the same button to get out of slow mode. Basically, I'd love to have "slow mode" done away with. This is where the sensitivity of the analog sticks is finally supreme. You only have to ease up on how far you press the the stick (that's what she said), and it goes gradually slower. Other than that, yes, mouse owns controllers. I admit.
How about a mouse-wheel sensitivity thing? The more you scroll it forward, the faster you spy moves when pushing a directional button? The more that it's scrolled down the slower your spy moves. Could that work?

That sort of thing is called variable speed, and I actually tried getting it in. But all dev's I asked say they want the speed toggle, not the variable speed I want :( You might be able to start a vote about it... I would totally back it up.
The variable speed thing was in PT, and it sucked big ass. You couldn't just start running, you had to waste a second to scroll the wheel all the way up to max speed. It sucked.

hmmm maybe have two keys or w/e for variable speed? Mouse wheel for variable. a key for toggle?
Pointless... you only need two speeds. They work just fine and have specific cause and effect thing related to them.

The PS 3 is overrated and has costed the US a lot of money.
