Title: First picture with photoshop
Post by: Kiory on February 26, 2009, 10:42:16 PM
Hello again. I know this is the wrong place to post this, but I though I would as I need feedback on a picture I have done using primarily photoshop. It's the first, full picture I have ever worked on, and as I asked before, was it essential to know how to use photoshop if I am a modeler. Learning this, I thought I would get my hands on photoshop and learn the ropes. I would like to know your thoughts and what I can do to improve in order to make it a bit more realistic (however unrealistic it is).

Looks good. I think that making normal drawings like these are important to learn the ropes. But making textures is different of course ;)

I'm moving this to the OT section.

Try to steer clear of things like the lense flare and several of the layer styles such as bevel. Unless they're used subtly it usually ruins the image, however I understand that you were messing around a bit here as it was your first proper use. Looking snazzy. :3

Ok, I understand bevel in 3d terms, but I'm not sure I actually used that once in that picture. Care to elaborate?

I was just listing an overused feature to warn you. Originally though I though the guitar was bevelled (though, now I see it obviously isn't, just dodged). ;D

Yup.  I did the same thing though when I began working w/ ps.  I used the lens flare like crazy because I thought it looked cool and was easy to do.  Just a little tip.  It's better to learn your own lighting effects.  Look up some tutorials for creating light.

Many thanks for the feedback. I went to my local library and picked up a copy of "How to cheat in photoshop CS3". May be a bit outdated but I could pick up some useful tips in this book. Let me know if you have read it.

Way too much inner and outer glow on the text (which is not fitting there at all but just floating around. Maybe you should have added it on a wooden sign sitting around somewhere or something); blue background is rather boring. It'd be much better if you had made it all a cave or something.

I like your gorilla, a lot.

Hehe, I spent hours on that damn ape, It is a picture for my bro's band bad monkey and I started to rush the end of it to be honest, just wanted to get it done. I'm glad you like the ape though so, thanks!

gorrilla and the bcrich are pretty good dude :), apart from the bit on the side of the guitar. the text is out of place there though.

Wow, a lot more positive feedback than I thought I would have, so, thanks for that. I will be posting the pic I am working on now, very soon. :D

Ok, I've near enough done the chimp.:D Ignore the guitar as I'm still working on that. What I need help with is a background. Any ideas as to what should be there? I lack the imagination and the strength/will to come up with something. Also looking for good feedback. :)

For some reason it's become blurry. Not sure why this is happening. :S
