if the ps team stays in the timeframe, we can expect a beta in about 3 months. so i was thinking, why not start collecting ideas for some beta events that either help improve the game, make some advertisement or help to know each other in the new community?
things that come to my mind:
- ps tourney double ko system
- try-to-break-the-game-contest
- beta or release parties in europe and usa
- trailer/teaser contest
- fun movie contest
- play the devs
- chat with the devs
- find the lakehouse easter egg race
- ...
hf brainstorming :D
All have been thought about already, and nothing is currently really planned.
We'll have some stuff later probably.
As for "Chat with the devs", there's the Ask-the-Devs topic somewhere and I'm in the community xfire group. What more can you possibly want ;D ???
haha that's true, you guys are already very communicative with the community.
nothing being planned on the dev side doesn't mean that the community won't put some effort in that direction. all those ideas sound productive and fun to me...
Those are good ideas to get the ball rolling. Although, I'm going to play PS to see what's glitchy/buggy anyways. It is the beta afterall ;)

No doubt , that's what its all about : ), Unlike some other companies we know :rolls eyes: :-\

Probably a lot of things will be buggy with the first release. That's where the beta testers and bug reporting comes in.

That's what I'm expecting. Not this perfectly molded simulation. We're here to help you. Its already enough that you guys have been working on this for a few years. I'm excited to see the outcome.
Are you going to have something directly in the beta lobby for reporting bugs, or do you just want us to come to the forum to report things?
We'll see by then.
Um, there is NO WAY that PS will be ready in 3 months lol.
Gonna be more like 2 years i reckon.

3 months should be enough to get to beta, or at least close to it.

Yeah because you have total access to what has and hasn't been done!
i hope im wrong, but only time will tell i guess.
Minimum 6months for beta i reckon.
You dont have many maps yet? Probably 1year + if not.
id rather wait longer and have more maps for the beta tbh. Plus weel be able to find more bugs :D as some bugs might be map specific :].

You WERE wrong about your gender...so....
one map is totally sufficient for beta.
it doesn't make any sense to start the beta later just to have more maps available as the whole game balance will be adapted around lakehouse first as it's based on the most balanced map of ct.
besides, i don't need more than one map to have fun for months. to me, it's the players with their unique developing styles and them teaming up in various combinations that keep the game fresh, not the amount of maps, custom skins, whatever.

Agreed. It takes a long time to learn a map and even longer to get good at it.
Ideally, you'd have more than one map for the beta. You can't fully balance the game around just one map.
three is the ideal amount of maps for a beta.
I wouldn't mind 22 maps either.
I want 69 maps yo
I'll go with what's released.
Didn't CT versus beta just have Club House? And didn't it work fine?

I think that is the case but on the contrary I do know for pandora however the 2 maps that were for the demo , were Hospital and deftech belew.

PT demo only had Hospital.
Yeah... we need a remake of hospital (made by the community for legal reasons?).
Hospital was simply awesome.
didn't the CT demo have clubhouse and museum?
i don't know about any demo besides the beta, which featured clubhouse only.

CT had Club and Museum. CT is far from balanced, so I don't know how you'd define "it worked fine."
I think the main point of the beta will be to work out the bugs.
We should follow the RTS model of team balancing. Where such changes occur through patches over the lifetime of the game.

Right, so aren't you contradicting your statement of the "beta maps working fine"?
Programmers making patches for the game are what will make the game work better.

No, I'm not? One map is enough for finding bugs and similar. Ubisoft were just too lazy to fix them in CT.

the only problem with this is I think that you need people who are dedicated to test because if you get some joe shmoe then your not gunna get any progress, esp if its a system like reporting to forums.

That's BS. Just because you're dedicated doesn't make you specially useful, nor give you the sole right to beta test. If we would do a closed beta, we would chose players randomly (just like every other closed beta out there), else it would be unfair.

quit trying to make me look like im the bad guy, I simply just said what I simply because I want the best for this mod and Im not just talking about all for myself here, take me, westfall , Snakebit ,HarkoninVSC, Yayzor, Nosis, Exodus , Noisewater, ISA Xplode, CougarC.A.T. , Jag, Xan99 , Amn23, to test to name a few , and (sorry those who were left out cause i could go on and on) who actually know whats up to give you proper feedback.
If you choose people at random, take example , battlefield heros theres soo many people who just Play simply because they wanna play , Not based upon the meat and potatoes or the heart of issues that need to be addressed.
It's either that or open beta, suit yourself.
Oh and the: "you're dedicated", wasn't you as in Agent, but you in general.
anything else but open beta would probably be suicidal for this mod:
-there would be way too few people for a closed beta
-beta is great free advertisement
-people waited for ages to play this mod and are used to bugs thx to ubi anyways, no need to drive them away with even more waiting time
-more people find more different bugs due to different system configurations, gaming habits etc. and allow more realistic network tests
-it's np problem to form a group of more dedicated testers directly reporting to the devs instead of the forum; just ask them directly so the devs don't get spammed
but back on thread topic:
what beta activity would you guys like most?
It would be cool if people who participated in beta were given something extra (in case it's open beta). It could encourage people to try it and after some time it would make them recognizable among community. It's a matter of discussion what it could be.
I personally think proper marketing is most important. It would require much more activity than now. Info about beta should be given on many modding forums, there could be some riddles about content, there should be decent webpage, tick tocks should be made different way, there should be dev's diary, moddb page should be updated once a week.
You may say that many people are interested in the game right now but the ammount of these who will eventually download it, will be smaller.
It's a shame PS wasn't noticed at moddb this year but this only proves that there's still much to do.
Just look at how Blizzard advertises their games and how others do that.
edit: grammar
what about xfire adds (probably pretty cheap), game magazine articles (just contact editorial stuff), some more unwanted/covered links/hints/whatever at the ubi forums, etc? maybe you guys should start some paypal donation account for advertisement fees, server maintenance etc.
but i'm sure everthing has been thought through by now, it's probably just that it makes no sense to make big announcements as a mod without a proper web portal and a public beta...
QuoteIt would be cool if people who participated in beta were given something extra
what about giving players who registered during the beta phase a small special logo in front of their name (like the bf2 sign in 2142)? this fame-system could be expanded easily: a symbol for devs, for people bringing over 5 friends to register for the game, etc.
You guys want to be noticed in a video game that badly?
the xfire thing seems like a good idea (think i suggested that once before). but advertisement is cruciallll
Uhh guys, sorry to bring it up, but the UT3 community is pretty dead.
Even UT'99 has more players right now (not mentioning UT2k4), so I don't see any reason to advertise. It's not like people will suddenly switch games -.-

that's the biggest problem to overcome (after getting the first attention via advertisement). it's way easier for a source mod to attract new players than it is for a ut3 mod. maybe we should let it slip that you don't have to buy this crappy ut3 to check out ps. all my friends that i told about ps requiring ut3 were like wtf, i have to spend 10 bucks just to check it out?!
considering ubi can't do anything about ps legally, i'd suggest all of us spam ps advertisement on the ubi forums once there is a proper ps portal. they won't be able to stop 100 folks bringing through the message...
They can put it in the censor-list.
If you're serious about advertising, you could ask PC World for a follow up (they did the article last time right?) or other PC Magazines, or just post in forums or ModDB.

UT3 is Dead becasue of the cheaters I think. It's too bad they didn't do anything for anti-cheats in the game. Will PS have something in place for anti cheat measures? I don't know how complicated it is to do something like that but it would be nice to keep cheating assholes out of the game.
We'll see about that if it's necessary.
ow im so excited about this beta,
lets do activities,
theres so many activities!
Awesome, lets celebrate.
how about this?
lets add eachother to msn messenger and use web cams and do some live nude cam shows.
