Title: Host Grab
Post by: LiVe.To.Di3 on March 09, 2007, 01:27:23 AM
I would just like to start off that when you guys do clone scct make sure you get rid of host grabs and just make it realistic like it would be in real life. Meaning, that all players have host grabs or if you know what i mean. LIke in da any player in any server can have a "host grab" if im correct because i havent played it in a while.

It's a mod therefore it's not possible. However, it is a mod for the bestest networking game ever so it will be less of a problem.

Doesn't the "host grab" exist just because he is the only player with no lag, therefore what he sees is, or can be different to what others may see, resulting in "host grabs".

EG: You are merc, running and you get a ping on your crosshair from noise behind you, you turn around, face him, and get front-grabbed, yet half the time on the hosts screen, you hadn't even turned around yet as his connection hadn't registered it?

It's a lag issue, from my understanding... but then again i am from Australia so, i see shitloads of lag related issues.  ???

I've 90 degree grabbed guys as a 300 ping client too, though... so hey.  :-\

;)

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.  :D :P (Damn i love these smilies... best smilies on a forum, ever.)

Razor is correct but I've seen some crazy shit that can't be explained with lag.

Like one time, me and Blinder were doing a 1v1 warmup on Warehouse. He had just hacked sector 1 and was heading for sec 2, but I stood on his way, back against the door. He rushed me front to front, trying to elbow me and for some odd reason it resulted in a neckgrab...

yes true but i would still try to make it realistic in grabbing instead like the merc suddenly stops and you grab him i mean wtf. host grabs i think are the realistic part of scct

I've experienced a lot of the opposite... Sneaking slowly up on a merc, carefully... Hit shift, ELBOW HIT FTW!?

LoL! Yeah I've experienced that a lot as well. I spend a minute setting up this perfect grab that would allow my mate to take a objective and win the game and then bam, smacked backwards, shok doesn't work, rushes me. I die, mate dies and my keyboard go smashing into the wall. Good times.

I'd definitely like elbow and grab to be separate keys.

different keys for the 2 moves is probably the most intelligent solution for the ping resulting in a punch instead of grab.

Also,  I wouldnt mind an icon showing up  saying that you can grab the merc...just like the icons for run/walk/coop.  It is more for training purposes for noobs...
