Is it possible for u guys to make the graphical level of detail fexible enough for many types of computers to run it.
could u guys make the settings more flexible than the UT3 game?
my computer is old and i want to be able to run the game.
it'd be cool if i could tweak the settings so i can run smooth.
my specs are:
Pentium 4 2.6ghz
ATI Radeon 2600XT AGPLOL
and 1 gig of 3200 DDR ram
I'm pretty sure your PC won't cut it.
PS is graphically more demanding than UT3, as far as I know.
We recommend at least an 8800 nVidia or AMD equivalent. (probably 3800-series).
PS is a high-end game, so yeah =/.
O.o
im requesting this for a reason.. lol

Lulz, try and move on to the 21. century. You won't get long with that piece of garbage computer. And if you can't afford anything better at the time PS is out you must have a very screwed economy. :P

Depends where you live at. Back when I was upgrading my PC last year, a Geforce 8800 (whichever version you wanted) wouldn't be less than 1.000 usd here so I got the 8600. Just not worth it, imo.

What the fuck are you talking about, it should run perfectly maxed on that....
My PC has a ATI Radeon X1600 PRO, 765MB of RAM (Yes, my 1GB died...) and a AMD Athlon XP 2800.
The general rule is, if you can run UT3 at low settings, you can run PS pretty much maxed out.

Well, atleast most people live in well developed countries. ;)
Besides, why didn't u order the 8800 from USA?
the video card i have
which is the ATI 2600xt is supposed to be the competitor of the nvidia 8600gt
but i think my processor is limiting my cards power because u have an ATI 1600 and ur running with a better processor and ur framerate is probably better than mine.

Importing taxes, the brazilian government is just a pain in the ass. Plus, I found no store that would actually ship to Brazil, only a special brazilian company that would charge another 10 or 20 % of the product's value to get it here.
Two weeks ago I imported some Ultimate Ears canalbuds and I had to pay 77% of the final price plus shipping to the government once it reached customs.
Well, after reading Lennard's posts, I guess I was wrong. But we'll see during testing. I might have confused it with some new tech that drops performance to 20 fps (which we're not using).

This is not true at all.
The lighting in PS is far more demanding than UT3 and will require much more resources.

as long as PS dosent try to pull of some gigantic maps with deep dark forests and light posts and a bunch of effects i think im good.
i hope.

Holy ****, That sucks. How 'bout traveling to USA, buy the parts for your PC, travel back home? Woulden't that be the cheapest?

That's what I usually do every 2 years. When I go to the US/europe I usually buy everything I will possibly need in the near future that I wouldn't be able to get here. However, paying 800 usd on plane tickets just to get some in-ear phones is OBVIOUSLY not that much of a deal. ;)

Divide it by 2 and you have the price in USD.

wait.
ATLEAST an 8800?! so that means ill be able to play PS on minimum with my 8800GTS 320? Thats a pretty high minimum spec lol.
It's nonsense. I run PS maxed out on a onboard 8400M G (128MB), AMD Dual Core and 3GB (I already noted my PC above).
I never said you will be able to reach 100FPS with those, but generally I don't care whether I have 25 or 100.
Unless you mind having a FPS of 25 (which is still smooth if you ask me), yes, you would have to upgrade.
you have to stay over 30fps all the time, especially in action-heavy situations, otherwise it's inacceptable for competitive gaming and it feels unsmooth like shit.

Exactly.
In interactive applications, fluidity breaks down at around 50fps, and becomes unplayable at under 30.
i don't know if it's just me or bad engines, but i need at least 60fps in games like cod4, bf2142, tf2 etc to experience fluid gameplay. so i really hope i can vsync ps at 60Hz with my current system...
You guys should stay true to CT and cap FPS at 32.
Keepin' it real, yo.

Depending on your resolution, it may or may not be an issue.
The lowest fps I get is around 40 with both flashlights in view and a resolution of 1920x1200 with an 8800GT.
The performance is highly resolution (GPU) dependent. I get 80fps in the same situation with a resolution of 800x600.

Also, I never run vsync. It adds a 1 or more frame input delay, and is very noticeable in certain games.
oh i wasn't aware of the input delay. i guess it's better to cap with set max_fps=60 then...

Possibly.
I just let the tearing happen, because many games run their input code in sync with the renderer.
Vsync off and having unrestricted FPS usually lets the game take your input at the earliest possible moment.
what the hell? what is the name of the brazilian currency and what is the exchange rate?
Reais (BRL)
R$2,00 = 1 USD.
R$2,70 =~ 1 Euro.
Hey Brazil, would it work better if someone from the US bought it and shipped it to you as a "Gift".
would you be able to avoid customs charges etc.? I mean you can pay someone through PayPal
and maybe save some money. I would imagine the shipping is still crazy though but I don't know.

wow thats a very nice exchange rate, i thought brazil was a third world country. i guess it has a lot of tourism which causes the Reais to appreciate.
yah, thats prolly it. cause otherwise, its not like the Reais would appreciate that much with the exports of tropical fruits. idk, but thats a very high value, i did not expect that.
or does brazil actually invest in scientific research O: ?

Well, I guess you're not far off if you're talking about the old definitions; first world being U.S. and its allies during the Cold War, 2nd world being the USSR and its allies, and third world being everyone else.

That's another way, yeah. I was gonna try something like that with Zedblade a while ago but the shipping destroyed any possibilities. The package was rather big, though.

Dude Brazil is not Haiti!
We can atually do stuff...
QuoteBrazil is a country in South America. It is the fifth largest country by geographical area, occupying nearly half of South America, the fifth most populous country, and the fourth most populous democracy in the world.
[...]
Brazil is the largest national economy in Latin America, the world's tenth largest economy at market exchange rates and the ninth largest in purchasing power parity (PPP)...
[...]
A global power in agriculture and natural resources, Brazil unleashed the greatest burst of prosperity that it has witnessed in three decades. Brazil will become an oil superpower, with massive oil discoveries in recent times
But the country sucks huge balls if you're dependant on the government or don't have the structure necessary for a private school or private health care (which means like 60~80% of the population).
QuoteAs a large middle-income country, Brazil still has several underdeveloped regions. Its educational system is accordingly plagued by many deficiencies and racial and regional disparities.[6][5][7][8]
As of 2002:
* Literacy rates of 88.2% for people aged 15 or older
* 6.2 years of formal education, on average. (Compare with 12 years in the U.S., 11 in South Korea and 8 in Argentina)
8.4 years for white people, 6.1 years for black people
5.1 years in the Northeast versus 7.2 years in the Southeast and 6.9 years in the South.
QuoteAccording to the Brazilian Government, the most serious health problems are;:[1]
* Childhood mortality: about 2.51% of childhood mortality, reaching 3.77% in the northeast region.
* Motherhood mortality: about 73.1 deaths per 100,000 born children in 2002.
* Mortality by non-transmissible illness: 151.7 deaths per 100,000 habitants caused by heart and circulatory diseases, along with 72.7 deaths per 100,000 habitants caused by cancer.
* Mortality caused by external causes (transportation, violence and suicide): 71.7 deaths per 100,000 habitants (14.9% of all deaths in the country), reaching 82.3 deaths in the southeast region.
In 2002, Brazil accounted for 40% of malaria cases in Americas.[2] Nearly 99% are concentrated in the Legal Amazon Region, which is home to not more than 12% of the population.[2]
I have a special request for the dev team: ban her plz.

60 fps is smooth. Not 25.

NVIDIA Geforce 9600M GT

Sounds like a laptop. Should be ok-ish on lower resolutions and maybe with less detail.

That laptop will give you 35 fps on max settings at 1440Ãâ€"900 in UT3, less on PS.
I run UT3 with 43 FPS average (1024 x 768, Shangri-La, max settings, 3 minutes running around the map) on this:
GF 7900gs 256MB
Pentium Dual Core e210 @ 2.4GHz
1GB RAM
So that laptop should run way better.
The game may feel smooth at 60, but games like the the Quake Engine (which as far as I know Unreal is based off) and the Source engine tend to have a sweet spot for FPS, at which the engine works best. It's 125fps in the Quake Engine and 101fps in Source.
Quote from: STON3COLDKILLA on July 18, 2009, 03:55:58 PM

No. Unreal was developed from scratch.
You did no research at all and this shall not be forgotten.
Also, who told you that?
lol o alright.
yea i wish i had gaming desktop though but i cant rlly afford one right now
When we're close to release, I think we'll have a thread with the specs of the devs and their min/avg/max FPS during a game.
sounds good ;D
