I am currently unemployed and searching for a job in the gaming industry.

Mid-level mapper/level designer

I am a graduate of Westwood College in Chicago IL. I graduated with two Bachelors degrees the first in Game Art and Design.  The second in animation.

I have used programs such as 3Ds Max, Photoshop, UnrealEd and have a very good grasp on them all. I have also been part of the modding community for five years.  Also worked on a Half-Life 2 mod as a level designer for many of them.  I like making my own maps, helping out fellow level designers and am very passionate about what I do.

You can check out some of my work at these locations:

Also some Screenshots:

This is a map I made in Unreal 3 for my world building class. No custom models or textures.

These are from Unreal 3 with all custom models and textures.

Thanks for applying.

I asked our Lead Environmental Art/Level Design to comment on your work.
Can you show some more screens, or a video or something?

Do you have some more examples of your modeling/texturing/normal-mapping skills?

If you check http://markjan.carbonmade.com/ I have some pics of some normal mapping and texture work. Also the UT3 map can be downloaded at  http://www.moddb.com/members/maj86/addons/maj86. Here is a link to my demo reel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcD5iVniXN8

The team thinks you need to work a bit on tiling and getting more color/detail into your models.
We think the last screenshot you posted is best so far, but the wall has tiling issues.

If you can get more custom footage like that with more polish, we will re-evaluate.

For now it's a no, but you can always try again.

A bit constructive feedback:
- The screenshots of the level are quite... well... boring. It looks small and there is a repetive use of assets. The wall surrounding the place looks out of place due to the strange lightning. Perhaps that you can make a level in the style of UT3 levels, as the assets fit best to those?

- The custom model screenshots or way too plain looking. There is pretty much no detail or coloring. Try messing with your materials, add some specular, make a better normal map or add one if you didnt and relight the level a little.

- The last screenshot is pretty much the best you posted. The same problem with the previous screenshots occur though: tiling. You can clearly see the texture repeating, try to get rid of this. And again lightning needs work.

UT3 can render magnificant levels with proper use of materials and lightning, so go for it. We look forward to your second try if you decide for that.

Oh, one small last tip: Do not put such music under a demo reel.
