Title: Unreal Development Kit Released
Post by: savov on November 05, 2009, 08:37:35 PM
QuoteEpic has announced the release of the Unreal Development Kit today! The UDK is a free for non-commercial use Unreal Engine 3 runtime that allows you to create your own games using UE3 without the enormous expense of an Unreal Engine 3 license!
More here (http://beyondunreal.com/view_story.php?id=13012).

Just wanted to share this with you. I think it will be interest for the PS dev team and hope this will take the project to a new level as a game, not mod :)

I already downloaded it yesterday as soon as it came out.

This does not only give us more power, but also makes purchasing UT3 redundant.

Too bad for people who bought UT3 already just for PS.

Oh well...

We're going to look further into this...

Depends... If we choose to switch to the UDK, you won't need UT3.

If we decide to switch over, people with UT3 will get a sneakpeek of an older version that was made for UT3. People without UT3 (so UDK only) will have to wait a few weeks while we port it over and add new things.

That way, people who bought UT3 specifically for PS still got some 'advantage', but then again, we never thought this UDK-thing would happen.

Wow, don't start promising things, please. Everyone, take that sneakpeek thing with a grain of salt.

He didn't promise anything and get the sand out of your vagina and calm down. None of the community expects anything to be released until you the devs believe it is worthwhile to release. If anything the sneak peak would be a developing thing and not thought of as a final cut. Chill.

True, but he stated it as if it were already decided it would go like that.

I indeed used the word 'will' in a wrong way. However, to be fair, I think it would be a nice gesture towards the people who bought UT3 for PS, and I'll personally try to get something like this working. As Lennard pointed out, it has not been decided yet, and we've not even decided that we're going to switch to UDK and if so, when.

Whoever decides against switching is a dumbass. UDK solves several insurmountable technical limitations that would have otherwise negatively impacted the game.

Okay i wait this mod for quite some time and i see now that it may not be a mod. That sloves my biggest problem, but makes several questions. The most important is "How, you guys, will get something for your incredible effort?". I mean, you'll just release it like a free for all game? All that time of hard work for nothing? Well if its that way BIG THANKS TO YA! I tried SCDA several times and i tough it'll be pretty cool and stuff, but its worse. The most stupid is the radar of the marines (mercs) which completely ignores stealth and the guy always knows if there are spies nearby. Wich totally ruins the stealth, around wich, the whole game is build. The other question is "When exacly is the release date?" Or at least will it be that year? Or 2010? There are a lot of crazy games coming up these days: MW2 (TODAY OMG I CANT WAIT... to torrent it :D), AC2 and League of Legends for example, wich promise big future. Will you try to compete with them in some way? I was big fan of SC before but after DA multiplayer, i totaly ignored the game playing it only for the story. And if you want to know, i learned about PS from Savov. Big Thumbs up for you mate (i am GrayFoxBG; that's my new nick).

Likewise, anyone who bought UT3 for the sole purpose of playing a game that might come out two years from now is retarded.

I sorta did but that doesn't make me retarded, hence there is other alot of cool mods that are coming out for ut3 that look very promising and im getting my bang for my buck esp in these economic times.

Yay I just saved myself 7€ with NOT buying UT already. I don't see why anyone would care so much about that little amount :)
