Title: Poll results: Ping in colored bars or numbers?
Post by: frvge on February 24, 2010, 01:06:49 AM
It took a while to collect enough data, but the results are in:

Question: Ping in colored bars or numbers?
Your answers:
Colored Bars: 5 (6%)
Numbers: 79 (94%)
Total votes: 84

I guess that's pretty clear. We'll be using numbers. Maybe we'll add some color to them too, but that depends on the menu design that is coming along really well.

The next poll is up and asks: Few media updates/many text updates?

There should be an option for Both.

Many rather Small detail Text Updates. Such as... WE FINISHED... The... Coding for something!

PLUS

Few Media updates

There is already a loooooong drought of time between anything big going on. Leaves this place kind of desolate and, for lack of a better word, boring when there is only topics going on that you don't quite have an opinion on.

Know what I mean?

Hell, set up a Live Webcam so we can peer into your LIVES! With all the creepiness that you think there will be.

Or have a Web Conference that can later be downloaded. (Yes I remember that time zones suck, but I'm sure you could figure something out. Some people get up early on a weekend. Some people stay up later.)

Or hit up Livestream.com and just quickly show off tiny tid bits you all are working on. (Like Developer Diaries... Err... Manly Books. Developer Manly Books)

OR OR

I don't know, but a lot more updates in general would be fun.

A 'plus' is considered of course. The question is more like: "You HAVE to pick one: this or that". Weighs the visual/audio media vs lots of text updates. Aka, is a video or screenshot worth more or less to you than knowing the latest updates almost in realtime?

So he means:
- Or media updates which take longer to collect and dont happen very often (tick-tock)
- Or almost realtime updates which are not necessarily visual media (just text).

Both would be too easy, we want to know which one is preferred.

This is better.

I would like an audio cue.  Like a "JOIN THIS GAME" or "Hey, man, this game is laggy as shit"

Judging from the negative comments about SCDA's announcer, your idea is a no.

I'm up for that position (for a try, anyway).
It should be optional, though.
It'd be nice to have many different voices to choose from, though.

Aaaaaaah. I getcha.

And since I've registered my vote of "Many Text Updates"; I was wondering when you are going to Implement said change?

Not that my choice is going to be the majority vote in the end, but if both are considered as an option could we expect to see more updates within the week? Or do we have to wait a month or so for this poll to finish before we start to see you all let us in on what you've been accomplishing?

Polls usually take 1-2 weeks. I strive for 1 week, but it's hard to come up with new poll questions after a while xD.

So is that to say we wont see any cool text updates for another week or two?

Depends on some cool stuff we're working on. Progress isn't as fast as I want, but a few things are done in semi-parallel by Lennard, so overall it's coming along nicely, but slowly.

How about something like this:  Which objective do you enjoy hacking the most?  Computer, Bomb, or Disk

It would be interesting to see and helpful for the future.

I think I preferred PT's method of being able to change the objective types in the maps rather than CT's style of integrating them all at once. That way you could play Warehouse extraction without someone redoing the map.

EDIT: And sabotage was pretty gay without EAX...never could tell where the bomb was as a merc on some maps, and as spy it's frustrating to have to start all over again even if the mercs neutralize it at the very last second.

That shit should appear on the radar and the timer should save if you put the bomb in the same spot. But honestly, I don't think I'd miss sabotage if it weren't in PS at all.

Seconded.

If we're talking about options, would it not be advantageous to include both PT's and CT's objective structure?

You mean PT didn't had explosion objectives?

I actually want more objective types other than disk, explosive and hacking... I'm open to suggestions.

No, I mean that it would be good to have 5 gametypes in terms of Story mode: Neutralisation, Sabotage, Extraction, Disk and a mode like CT's where you have to complete each type of objective.

AND While we're at it, we put BOTH types of Sabotage!

Solves All Fun-ness

Hmm...I cannot think of any more good objective types other than these three.  However, you could possibly incorporate a teamwork objective.  Obviously teamwork is needed in all objectives such as distraction, necking, coop locations to reach objectives, etc.  But there could be potential in having one spy hack one of the panels (one that looks like the steam pressure, electrical, and glass ceiling in clubhouse) on one side of the map which enables new computer/disk/bomb objectives for about 5 seconds.  Then, the other spy at a different location could be able to initiate that objective for that short span of time.  If it is hacked, then it can continue to be hacked until either stopped by the merc or completed.  When there is an interruption (or the objective was not attempted in the time span), then the panel must be re-hacked before it can become available again.  This way, the spies can have team work tactics when they are far away as well.  I don't really know if it could work or be pulled off, but it could be used to add new possibilities.

Explosive AND Modem

Otherwise put as:

CT Sabotage and PT Sabotage

Never thought about that, it would actually be pretty cool if one teammate has to hack an objective to say stop a ventilator from spinning in a vent so you can get to the next objective, security system will kick in and only give you 5 seconds to walk through it.
