Title: Could Epic Games pick project stealth as its conest winner ?
Post by: Little Baby PiG on April 16, 2010, 02:52:33 PM
I just watched a video of cliffy B from epic talking about how there is a contest going around where independent developers can use the unreal engine and make a game, and if it's good enough they will hand out a free licensing deal to publish the game, is project stealth part of this contest ?

Yeah it's called the Make Something Unreal Contest (MSUC).  Project Stealth is in it.

Actually it was over in like September. We didn't win. They were unable to use our custom noob-friendly installer.

No, we just didn't win. They actually requested us to upload a full-blown package rather than a an updater.

Isn't there another one next year?  Won't you enter that one?

I am telling how it is. Frvge was using our update-launcher as an excuse for the fact we didn't win.

No, even with the core packages, they were unable to get it to run for some reason. So we were never graded. :( At least, that's what I got out of them. They were kinda hushhush about it, which is normal according to the rules.

epic games sold out, they aren't the same original company they once were, they are dedicated to the casual gamer crowed, and they ruined gears of war 2, and are going to completely casual the shit out of gow3...they didn't pick project stealth because it takes skill and isint for  8 and 9 yr olds...project stealth is a awesome game, thats gona require thinking and patience, and epic just wants to pump out garbage casual kid friendly games.

While I agree with you when you say they soiled Gears of War (multiplayer at least), I doubt that's really the same group of people that selects the winning mods.

Frvge, isn't there going to be another MSUC next year?  I thought it was an annual thing or something.

Only with every new release of Unreal Tournament.

@Little Baby PiG: But they still released a damn well UDK which is updated EVERY month, a lot of cool shit is added too, cascading shadows, ScaleForm Gfx, etc.

They didn't pick project stealth because frvge got it disqualified for not following the upload rules. Simple as that.

Doesn't the winner of Make Something Unreal have thier mod turn into a retail game - Ala. Red Orchestra?

I am just thinking that a possible reason for Epic fobbing you off could have been that this is essentially a clone of SCCT-SvM and there may be some legal implications if it did win and was distributed for money?

Epic couldn't open it for some reason. We supplied 2 versions, one being extremely noob-friendly...

Tactical Ops was an awesome game! I've played it to death at high school during the after school computer-hours with a full classroom, classic!

TACTICAL OPS!

Legendary game, totally forgot of its existance...

Yeah and I see your point now, they have a similar game but as it isnt set in the Tom Clancy/SC universe, I dont think they can be touched...

Afterall... Thievery UT did the first stealth multiplayer so one could say Ubi borrowed the Idea rather than created it.

Anyone remember the old Conflict: Desert Storm?  It got bad reviews and had low production values, but I'll be damned if I've had a better coop experience from a third person shooter.

Dude, I used to play that like mad with my bros back in the day. And I remember back in the day of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark for N64... so much late night multiplayer lol.

And holy shit, Conkers Bad Fur Day. Holy. Shit. Late. Nights.

Yeah dude I just played Goldeneye with my cousins at my grandparents' house because we were so bored.  That game was amazing.  But now when we play it seems like trash because it is so old.  At least we got some good laughs.

Conker NEEDS TO COME TO 360 IN SOME WAY SHAPE OR FORM.  I downloaded Perfect Dark and I'm surprised at how well it's held up given that I never played it on N64.  I played Goldeneye though.

With Conker they either need to remake the original, release the original for download with online MP, or just do a whole new game but keep it great and ridiculously gross.  I thought Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was a good game, but I just wish they would do a traditional platformer.

I can't believe anyone else has heard of the Conflict series.  Fucking great split screen coop, and we played on like a 35 inch screen with 4 people (less than 10x10 inch screens for all of us).  Ah, the good days.

Man this got off topic.

Ah dude I know. Remember that night level where you had to infiltrate the base and shit? We used to do the entire first part of that level all stealth while only using the knife. So beast.

You could always buy Conker: Live and Reloaded for Xbox

With all the TF2-like Multiplayer and updated visuals.

man all i remember of that game were escort missions every second level and completely random difficulty because the enemies switched between perfect accuracy and not being able to hit shit whenever they felt like it

on the plus side it is a lot better than goldeneye so that's good i guess

ps i seen all those crappy games you got on xbox live arcade
they hold no candle dodonpachi daioujou ultra mega black mode
so you bring out that game tomorra or you won't see no $7.99 o my gold membership ever again (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkmU0vw33IM)

aegis wing sucks ass.  You guys should try beat hazard, castle crashers, splosion man, trials hd, shadow complex, banjo kazooie, geometry wars 2, and I know I'm missing some good ones.  As for Perfect Dark, I said I was surprised at how well it has held up, I didn't say it was omfgmazing.

And as for Conker, they shut down original xbox support so there isn't any online MP.  Live and Reloaded was actually pretty good and they need to make one like it but even better.
