perfect dark xbla makes call of dutyl look like fucking thrash...it  takes so much more skill than any other console fps, because reach and modern noobfare have all been dumbed down for the casual mass audience that wants easy games...pd has a no auto aim playlist on its matchmaking , and its awesome , takes alota skill.. COD SUCKS, HALO 1 was awesome, but halo 2,3 and reach are casual peices of shit, bungie has milked halo and ruined it. jetpacks, hahaha wow how lame is reach, same with ubisoft, ubisoft is fucking garbage, they ruined the ghost recon, rainbow six and splinter cell series, and man assassins creed 1 and 2 are garbage, such big lets downs, the only decent companies out there are independent companies that are original / creative that give the hardcore fans what they want, and thats the project stealth team, also rocksteady studios is really good, rareware impressed me with pd xbla, i wonder what they have in store for natal season, hopefully a fps that takes skill and is awesome to play. CALL OF DUTY FUCKNIG IS THRASH :-*

DO YOU BELIEVE IN HEAVEN AND HELL, I FARTED

You should play Ketsui or Mushihimesama or somethin'. Now those are shooters that take skill to play.

(or are you too casual for them)

Hey if I want to start playing them amazing japaneese courtain shooters, and I don't know any japanese, how do I do that? I mean, are there translations or something?

Also, do any of them work on linux, or will I need to virtualise a windows box?

You don't need a translation. They're arcade games man, there's nothing to even translate. S'like needing a translation for Street Fighter or Metal Slug or somethin'. What the hell is there to read? Half the time menus and so on are in english anyway.

Just get MAME and a bunch of roms and try shit out. Dodonpachi is good, Gunbird 2 is good, Battle Garegga is good, ESPra.de. is good. What STGs that aren't arcade games even are there? Touhou, I guess. You can play one of them too if you want. It might actually be a good idea, really, 'cause Touhou has very slow bullets and a visible hitbox, so you can kinda ease yourself into things. And it does indeed have translation patches, if you really want to read what the characters are saying, though it's probably not worth bothering with.
Not sure if either of those will work on Linux though. I think there's a Linux version of MAME, but I have no idea what version it is, and whether it's any good or not. Touhou I dunno about, but I doubt it'd be happy on anything but Windows.

Oh, and give up on playing anything made in the last decade. There are a fair few ports on 360, but most of them are region locked to Japan. Espgaluda 2 and Mushi Futari aren't, but that's it, and Cave have stated they're not going to do any more region free releases in the near future. PS2 has a few games, too, including a superior port of Daioujou (The 360 version was made by basically copying and pasting code from the PS2 one. It takes like a minute to load the main menu, and that's the least of its problems. D:), but they're region locked too, and probably a huge pain to track down nowdays.
You could JTAG a 360 or import a Japanese one, and I suppose if you really wanted to you could build a cab and start importing PCBs, but... probably best to stick to MAME for now.

Yeah I guess so.
It still feels weird when I can't understand shit of what characters say in a game.

So, on to MAME.

There's barely anything to understand in most of these sorta games, to be honest. In a lot of cases things come translated anyway. I mean, Dodonpachi. What dialogue is there in Dodonpachi? The ending, and that's about it. There's some voiced stuff I guess, but it's all in english anyway. You don't need a translation for YOUR MISSION STARTS NOW, ARE YOU READY, right?
Sometimes games have Japanese voices, but a lot of the time you can work out what they're saying anyway, if it's not just something like POWAA APPU. Y'know what A.I says when she first shows up in Daifukkatsu? 追跡èâ,¬â€¦Ã§Â¢ÂºÃ¨ÂªÂ, æ”»æ’Æ'ã‚’éâ€"‹å§‹ãâ€"まãâ,,¢. Y'know what that means? It means she's noticed you chasing her and she's going to start shooting you now. Y'know what she says when she turns into a schoolgirl? 戦éâ€"˜ãÆ'¢ãÆ'¼ãÆ'‰ã¸ç§»è¡Å'. Y'know what that means? It means she's changing into attack mode. (I'm sure in Japan it's perfectly reasonable to build your giant plane's combat mode in the shape of a girl, really) It's just, you don't really need a translation for this. You shouldn't.
Touhou games have fucking words everywhere, yeah, but there are translation patches for them, so that's that. The only other games I can really think of with that many words are all too recent, so you won't be able to play them anyway, so no problems. We could whine at Papa Skull or Pig or someone with a 360 to get Deathsmiles and transcribe it though, if you want. The NA release of that is, what, next month? Think it was next month. Comes free with the DLC that you'd have to pay for if you bought the Japanese one, ooh, value, better buy it. You get to play as a little girl who won't shut the hell up, ooooooh.

(I'm pretty certain I got the kanji in this post right, but if I didn't, y'know, whoops. I'm not Japanese, don't ask me to be good at this shit.)
