I was thinking about the fact that when you chaff a mine, sometimes you have to use you thermal vision to check it's disabled. Would it not be better for the red light to turn off for proxies/lasers, and maybe for the poison mine to fade to black? That way you can disable mines without mercs spotting you on EMF, or losing sight of the distance by changing to thermal.
Don't the mines already stop blinking?

curdy you sir are correct.. also you know when a poison mine is disabled when you see chaff particles around it..
If you look at the mine on ModDB you'll see that I designed them with motion sensor pods that flip up in a motion trigger state and when in a laser trigger state the front portion of the mine is rotated 45 degrees causing the lights on them to form a sort of X instead of the + shape they have in motion sensor. The idea is that when chaffed it returns to a dormant state, lights off and the pods closed with the front rotary light portion in the default + formation. There should be plenty of visual indication showing not only which mode the mine was activated in, but also if it has been disabled.
The poison mine does not give you any visual indication of being disabled. The whole point behind the poison mine is a stealthy deployment but a slow kill. Given the that the chances of being killed by a poison mine are very slim unless you're just playing stupid or being to aggressive, it is my opinion that it should remain undetectable without vision modes. I also designed it with a slightly higher profile than the other mine so it should be just as visible if you are looking.
As far as the chaff goes, our programmers will make sure that if the mine is sitting within the chaff field, it WILL be disabled.

More of your FULL STEALTH grenade throwing?
(i think if you've just chaffed something people are going to guess that you're probably near the mine you just chaffed)
(even without visions)
(sorry dude)

Interesting solution. I agree with the poison mine.

'Full stealth' is to use the most amount of stealth that you possibly can, whether or not you have to use flash grenades to do that is irrelevant. On topic, the ability to see into the distance is valuable, which is removed when using thermal visions. EMF is not the only reason you'd want to avoid using it in a case like this. In fact, I said that in my first post.

Good points raised by everyone else by the the way, I've taken it on board ;). However, I don't think the mines currently stop blinking in CT, I could be wrong though :P. Nice solution Binary, that sounds good and I see your point with the poison mine.
They do stop blinking. Actually they go quiet and the light turns off iirc.

If you don't want to turn thermal on for even just a second to check for mines because you won't be able to see things in the distance, I think maybe you have a problem with thermal itself.

I didn't say that.
I'm not sure what other impression I'm supposed to be getting here. You don't want to lose sight of the distance by turning on thermal to check mines. Checking mines only takes like a second. Therefore you not wanting to turn on thermal to look at mines means you don't want to turn it on for even a second.
If I'm somehow misinterpreting you, please, correct me, but I don't see how I could be.
I don't mind having thermal on but there's times when I'd prefer not to use it, like when I need to see into the distance, so being able to tell when proxy/laser mines are disabled is a good thing IMO, which is something my mind is at rest about ;).
I know, I don't care about that. I'm just saying why it's disadvantageous to keep thermal on, that doesn't mean I disagree with the view distance implemented. Anyway, my question was answered a long time ago :P
Hey guys! We should make it so that there is an on screen message when someone dies so that I don't have to stick around to watch the death animation.

Okay let's put this into perspective; I didn't realise that was I was asking for was already in place. You on the other hand, believe the energy should be drained with visions (which obviously is retarded), and that the game should be unbalanced by removing the equipment refill on respawn. Why are you trying to make fun of me because you lost an argument, are you upset? :(
-EDIT: misunderstanding about the equipment, but stil, come on...
