Title: What is going to happen next? Graphics and AI
Post by: DreadStunLock on May 12, 2011, 03:16:19 PM
At some point in probably less than 500 years they will probably have graphics to the point of you can't make it anymore real than it is right? Ok, let's make it a 1000.

What will they do next? Create a lot more advanced AI? Or simplify it to the point of where you can create real life graphics in a very fast pace on a quite an old computer?

We will not exist anymore.

Dunno about 500 years from now, but even today you can see a shift for the focus of technology to making everything smaller and more portable.

Well the graphic improvement has to stop somewhere, you can't get better graphics than real life skin.

Also why is it that so far people try to make human skin as close to real as possible, yet we still see it as digital, that is so weird, my friend said it's because a small chunk of human skin has got like millions of light photons or something like that???? oO

Probably because your PC screen uses pixels. Once they find a way to make a screen without building it out of pixels but more as a whole image, skin will be skin.

That's actually really interesting.

PC mode:

Pixels

Molecules

:D

But I am sure there has to be a way of making pixels a lot smaller, maybe quadriply smaller one more time? Or maybe even under a microscope Oo

There is also the perspective thing. The things look unreal to us because we don't feel the 3D distance of them. I think the graphics won't get any better from now on. They will concentrate on enlarging the distance that is to see with a better rendering and also I think my bro told me that he read in some magazine that they already are workin on some kind of a new rendering that is not going to render the things that are not in our sight or sth like that. They will also work on more and more interactive worlds.

When it comes to AI. I wonder if I'll live to the day when you will talk to the AI through microphone and it will respond.
Title: Re: What is going to happen next? Graphics and AI

AI I think is only possible if they manage to do something like a "Brain in a jar" or something of radioactive mutation of some sort. Mechanically I don't think it will ever work like that.

Perspective render they are working on is a bit something more complicated than what you said I think, because we can do that now with 3ds max, all you need to do is add blur/fog scenario to your distant objects.

Ye I realise it's more complex then that but the thing is it's suppose to boost the performance speed in games. When it comes to AI. You're wrong. There are already contests in which programmers create a chatroom bot. The one that is the longest to pretend to be the human without being spotted wins. You can talk with them just like with a normal human.
Title: Re: What is going to happen next? Graphics and AI
Post by: DreadStunLock on May 12, 2011, 08:29:57 PM
Nope, chat room bots respond to the stuff you write to them, for example, if you say "Hi" to them, it's in their code that there is 25% chance they will say "Hi" another 25% to say "Hello" another 25% to say Hey, another 25% to say "What's up" or something.

Chatroom bot, is nowhere near of what AI is. I am talking about AI that can think on it's own like we do, not by percentage or chance.
Title: Re: What is going to happen next? Graphics and AI
Post by: puuusianka on May 12, 2011, 09:23:17 PM
I don't think they will ever make an artificial inteligence that will have normal brain. They will do an AI based on chance setting but what it'll have is that it ll be able to set the chances itself basing on the beginner sets and failures that it'll make when "learning".

I am not talkin about those bots that you encounter on normal chat programs from time to time. The one I'm talking about is something much more inteligent. I'll try to find a link or sth to show you what it is, if I have some time and determination.

Well, do people want their video games to look absolutely real? After all, it's a game in a fictional world...using real actors can ruin that experience, especially when the characters do a lot of not-so-real things.

Honestly having true-to-life visuals (especially once virtual reality advancements are made - perspective is important), what would separate games from real life?  People would be caught up in the game, fully immersed, and it could be really disturbing shit.  The only thing that would ruin total immersion would be cheesy writing or something along the lines of that.  I honestly believe games in the future could be detrimental to society.  Kind of like inception or matrix where you get caught up in fake worlds and forget reality.

i think the best possible graphic will be around "3d hd tv" quality or something like that. So the games' ingame graphic (not just cutscenes) will be like watching a movie.

That would be brilliant, it would be also nice to see a game created in IMAX graphics, now that would be a feat.

Wrong. The best chatbots use really advanced learning rules with semantic reasoning and memories that last for several sentences and can distinguish context. Really hard part where pure computer science, linguistics and a bit of psychology come together.

they should make realistic graphics and perfect ai and then let bioware make games using them

i think they'd be able to put them to the best use

1. Blizzard <---They are perfect
2. Eidos <-- They need to give me Deus Ex: Human Revolution in DX5000
3. Dice <---They just need something better than same shit over and over
4. Bioware  <----I want Bioshock 3

But yeah creating AI would also be nice, I actually have a quite a big hope for a new Star Wars FPS game after couple years of release of Metal Gear Solid: Rising, imagine being able to play a Jedi in a full motion lightsaber fight? That would be awesome!

that's not how it's meant to go. you're meant to go on for like three pages and have diagrams and shit.

you're out of the big daddy waifus club, you aren't taking this seriously enough >:(

But yeah seriously as time goes on I find myself playing fewer and fewer games with ai that's even remotely complex or graphics that look like they're from this decade. So basically I don't give a fuck.

So yeah!

Regarding AI, up till now no program ever passed the Turing test (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test), so there is a lot to gain in that field - a very interesting field, too -.

I'm pretty sure virtual reality (VR), as in you put on a hat with wires and you're inside the game/realm/world etc., will be the downfall of humanity.

People already shat their pants when they saw Avatar. They were depressed because they knew it was a fictional world. If those people got hold of VR they will never want to leave. Combine that VR with the comfy chair from Wall-E. (Where fat humans live on) and you can probably imagine how humans would go about..

Another great movie was made with Bruce Willis (Surrogates) about something similiar as VR. Instead of going inside a world, you were hooked up to a robot that looks whatever you want it to look. Thus one could be someone else completely. Which also leads to abandoning the 'real world' for a lack of better term.

Surrogates is indeed an awesome movie and also makes you think about future developments. Although not a good movie, I can also recommend "Gamer" as it fits into the same category, it's interesting, to say the least.

@Cat, I definitely remember Gradius, was a game on one of the Joysticks you plug in, and it has a lot of the oldie games, like the infinite bomberman, and Contra.

To say the least, Gradius is ridicilously hard for a starter.

@Lennard, that's actually very interesting nice one.

Gamer, surrogates, inception, avatar, matrix etc are all very interesting movies because they all touch on the idea of a future of fantasy worlds where you can do as you wish with no repercussions.

Sounds great, yeah, but it would be the complete deterioration of morality.  i.e. fat guy from gamer, who I literally wish to murder despite being a fictional character.  See?  I'm doing it already.

I was more thinking of some sort of Tali girlfriend simulator, to be honest. It could be like Loveplus, y'know? Konami managed to get a dude to marry one of the characters from their game, Bioware should try something along the same lines if you ask me.

You're pretty good at picking up subtext though bro.

The day we can no longer interface with a video games via means of controller/mouse/keyboard will be the day that the world ceases to create productive and creative content.  Everything made and perceived will be an endless novelty that requires little more then static neuron activity.

I hope one day, we will be able to rent a cheap room that can hold about 500 people, have the gaming platform analyze the room, and recreate what's on the whole game map and project it holographically onto the floor of your room, meaning you will be inside the map, and the collision will be accurate to the point of molecule, so if you shoot his pinky off, you can't shoot anymore :P And you use acrobatics and your own body.

That's where Call of Duty will go sky high, and fatties will be eliminated, as well as kids, cause they can't run to save their lifes.

(Note, Battlefield will only be for rich kids, cause fuck you will need a whole arena)
