I suggest that we make Project Stealth give the host the possibility to kick/ban a user, simply by right clicking, and also DRAG a player to another team!!
Dragging is a new idea AFAIK. The rest will most likely be implemented.
;D
dragging sounds good to me. but i would rather kick an ashole/n00b than dragging him.
But the dragging is for those who says: "No, why me? I don't wanna be Merc!".
And the kicking should be dragging too. So there should be a ragdoll of each player, which the host could drag into the mouth of a big Tyranusaurus Rex, which then would eat him, and he would be kicked :D:D:D
those who say "Why me?!!?" leave if you make them go merc anyway... so dragging them to merc would just make them go "ffs screw this..." and leave the game
Anyway, it's good if someone is AFK :P

but you still need him to ready...
And i think that the team forcing will get overused - n00bs who want to play spy only and stuff...
That's why I in the first post said that it should be the 10 seconds count down! Like in the first CT Versus release!
nah leave the dragging thing out man as kok4f4n said it would be overused by noobs...
While the dragging thing is cool, it would easily be abused. I can definitely see the host only wanting to play Spy (or, oddly enough, I've come across some players in CT lately who REFUSE to play Spy) and dragging you back to Merc to play the next map instead of doing revenge. Would get old quick. Good idea, but would be abused.
don't play with idiots. but forcing revenge in rank (if this crap makes it into the game) would be a good idea.
:P
I can already see some guys dragging the others to merc after every single round so they can play one more as spy.

Let's just remove the smileys...
Cause apparently there are some who don't know that :-\ :'( means: "aaw. I thought it was such a good idéa".
Let's just ban all emotions!
but then ppl will simply write: : P : / : D :P
Please stay focused on the topic... >:(
let's ban all people ; P
back to topic: atm most vets decide to host after bad experiences with n00b hosts who act like dictators. though a good skill/experience indicator in the server browser (requires a master account/less smurfing) would help a lot.
what about a map voting system?
I didn't understand shit of this:

lol i understood all of it. :P
Speaking of map systems, I'd like to have a map distribution system, so that people who connect can download maps they don't have. This will make it much easier to play different maps and further distribute maps among the community.
Say have a master server over http to download maps directly throughthe game client?

Agree.
And about the countdown thing if someone is afk. What is the point of starting the game if 1 is afk anyway?
Oh, right, let's pretend some guy joins, and then decides to go to town, without closing the game... You'll have to close the server... Well... You had to in CT... except if you blacklisted him.

or just kicked...
It didn't work on the earlier versions...
PT was much better... it had punkbuster... So you could even kick in-game...
And reduce lag!
pb.sv.kick NAME
pb.sv.restart (mystically removed lag)

Well I don't know who is going to maintain that server. It might be easier just to use peer to peer map transfers, similar to games like Warcraft III.

but it could make the game lag when someone downloads...

Well download wouldn't be during the game, it would be during the lobby screen, so it would mean you'd have to wait a bit for the map to download, but it'd be an option to share some of your maps with people if you really wanted to play hospital for instance and one guy didn't have it.

Kick NAME
restart sounds very good though :) I would like to see that implemented

Most maps in WC3 are really small in size... tell me if im wrong but maps in SC and probably in PS will be measures in megs where WC3 maps were just afew KBs.. It would take afew seconds to download in WC3 if the host had good connection and so did the user. If they did not you would sometimes get stuck and other crap... Also in WC3 there are what you call Download leavers... they download and leave :) in there the maps are only in KBs so imagine is this happend in something like PS... people download 10-20 megs and it takes them about 10 mins then they leave... wouldnt that piss the host (for using his internet up on a noob) and the players who just wanna play the game without having to wait a crapload of time... ;D
'dragging' players is a bad idea. If a player won't switch, just kick them. And if you did drag them over, they will just whine and then leave. Plus some hosts would exploit it so they were always spies...
hopefully we can make it just as fun as merc to play so we won't have the whole spy whore problem at all.

My entire Maps folder for CT is 27 megs. Most maps are only about 300 - 600 kb, with only a few weighing in at a meg or more (Guessing from the filenames, it looks like Pyrocryptic is 1.3 megs, with Offshore Oilrig and Panama Bank weighing in at around 2.5 megs a piece). Not really that big, and with a decent connection on both sides, it really wouldn't take very long to transfer that to a player. Especially if it were possible to set it up similar to a torrent client so that all of the players in the lobby with the map are sending it to the player without the map, but that may be a bit difficult.
emmm how does that work out the sounds folder for the maps is 200megs for me... your talking about the Maps folder only but the map isnt just the map it needs the sounds and textures and things that come with it... my textures folder is 150megs... and my static meshes is 150 megs also... you need all of them to have the maps because if you look in them youll see files with names like:
AQU03-i.utc - obviously for aqua
amb_Bank.uax - obviously for bank
FAC_STM.usx - obvously for factory...
Look at it this way Mr. Mics map pack compressed is 136 megs... there are 15 maps. Uncompressed im not sure how much it is but lets say 10 megs each map at the least...
I really dont want to have to wait for someone to download 10 megs and then see him leave and another player to join and have to download another 10 megs again... just a waste of time... have all the map downloads in the site instead of making it in the game...
if it isnt needed anyway itll still be annoying cuz noobs will dl and leave on purpose which will piss of host just like in WC3...

Doubtful for a game like CT, where there just aren't many servers to begin with. You really can't afford to do that kind of thing ina community that small, toehrwise you just don't end up having a game.
can you say that again I dont quite get what your trying to say...
If i do get what your saying is that there arent any noobs...
There are man... lots of idiots who you just cant understand what they are doing in a game like splinter cell... I just dont want to have to wait for the hosts mate who has 56kb modem to download 10 megs or have a noob dl for 5 mins while every1 waits and then say "Crap i g2g cya guys thnx for download"
Possibly, revenge mode could always be turned on? Just a thought, maybe that would cause some problems but it could also fix some as well.

even 12 minutes is quite a long time if you need to do some rl stuff like accepting a phone call etc. i'd like to see a pause option that can't be abused, maybe with a voting first. in about every 5th game i play, some1 is afk for a short period of time.

He is saying that in a game with a community as small as the Splinter Cell community, this really shouldn't happen. There aren't a lot of options for games to play at any one time, so the odds of somebody just joining a game to download the map and leave aren't that good. Most players would rather join the game, download the map, and play.
I also think that revenge should NOT be on all the time, as you may have different equipment that you bring to one map, that is nearly useless on another. Having revenge on all the time would mean that you have to change your equipment before you switch teams to start the next map, which just doesn't make sense.
revenge mode is useless because a nubs can just leave when the round starts, instead of leaving from the lobby.
The only thing is .. i dunno how people make the Non-Kickable names or what fault UBI made in the netcode of that but if that cant be corrected then its gunna be a pain in the ass to kick / ban people with that draggable system.. it would be abused as others have said / but as an alternative i think right click would better ; giving you the options to restart the server / kick / ban.. or ban / kick .. and a time specified.

If you don't want to wait for a download, then you'd just host a map everyone has.
I mean, really pretty simple. Nobody is forcing you to send people maps.

What if we had options for a loadout based on map? So you could have a separate set of gear for every map that would automatically get chosen as default.

sounds nice, but the eq is not only affected by the map, there are other factors: teammate, enemy, current mood, strat etc...

yeah, I can see that...
a spy with a gun cause he was in a 'lazy' mood. lol.
The restart I talked about earlier wasn't about restarting the server, but restarting punkbuster!
How about revenge is on when people vote for it. After every round there would be a quick lobby giving you the chance to edit your weapons before the game starts when everyone is ready. You wouldn't be able to switch teams in this mini lobby but you could edit your equipment.
Clicking and dragging is a BAD idea. You thought everyone who wouldn't go over to be annoying but think about them dragging you over everytime. Again, not a good idea. Maybe a voting system to get people to switch over, like a 3/4 vote.

Agreed.
Votes FTW.
If the game is 2vs2, which it will be for now, we can possibly implement a 3-votes-needed for kicking. Only the host can ban (and is unkickable of course). If we can make a dedicated servce executable, we can have it too for map changes or team-switches (whole spy team goes merc or vice versa) and player-changes (one player switches to the other side).
I say that the host can kick players and change game options. That is all. The way people get to switch sides is either play by the rules or get a 3/4 vote by other players to make them switch.

Given that the host could simply ban you if he wanted to keep playing spy, it's not really a big deal. If the host is a dick, then you've really got no recourse other than to just leave the server.
At least allowing the host to drag people will prevent a lot of the crap about telling people to move. People will still have to ready up anyway, so it won't be a big deal.
