Title: Everything else UI
Post by: Daybreak on July 07, 2007, 12:25:47 AM
My last attempts.
Merged the ideas. The Game lobby will be similar to what the others have put out. But rather than a background picture, I'd have the models themselves displayed.
Anything in a box you click. Outside of the main screen takes you too a new screen. Inside the main screen creates a popup ie Filters. The one exception is the merc tab.

Edit: Quickly added the Merc to some of the layouts, I have in mind. I don't really know what's come of the layout design ability. However, I did read that Epic was looking into redoing their UI cause apparently it sucked.

i really like the idea with the spy model at the side of the profile selection, as it produces a spacious effect. ;)
for my taste, you failed doing the parts better seefoo and tigear did. on the other hand, i think you did some good first steps for the tutorial section (you also did the first steps for the ui). some suggestions:
-on the 4th screen, instead of the spies posing there could be a big, animated model of the selected gaget or even a short video sequence showing it's use in an ingame scenario.
-the background is either too much interfering with the foreground (i think the reason for this is the light and shadows in the hexagonals that give it a 3d look), or having no connection to it at all (screen nr5; this could be a result from copy paste, but your background would interfere too much with the text nevertheless)
-i prefer the back and quit button to be on the right up corner, because we all got used to it by windows. your buttons are quite spread out and far apart from each other, but optimization for the shortest mouse ways would require some testing (could be usefull for the other uis, too).

"I failed doing the parts better seefoo and tigear did"
I have no idea what you mean.

For the profile screen, the idea would be for them to be animated in someway. Sure using the gadgets would be cool. It'd depend on time. It'd work the same for the merc side.

The back ground when you enter on line, would open up like in my other UIs. Thus being in the server and online. SO it would be split in half and rise to the top.

The back and login buttons are the same as in CT. It's that familiarity I went with rather than windows.

As I mentioned in another thread, my LCD monitor is currently having some brightness problems. It's brighter on the bottom than on the top, thus some of my colours are off a little. hence the faded look on the spies in profile. ARG my Monitor.

they did the game lobby so good that it's very hard to do better.

black background in the middle sounds good to me.

i think it's best to have all the basic functions in one bar. but going for the shortest mouse movements (but still big separated buttonfields) would help increase functionality. btw, the simplicity of your desing is it's greatest strenght.

Well since the logo on top of this forum is red and white, maybe you could cahnge up the colors to match that. Otherwise great job.

i like the clear style.
the icons suck, they're just consisting of ugly rectangulars. make headphones for audio etc.

Red and white eh? I'll see what I can do.

Thanks there Gawain. I know the icons aren't completely the best but they do get the point accross.
Never the less I do look forward to your icons.

might wanna use this as the background ;) (yours appears to invert half way, which just looks odd imo)

Holy crap that looks awesome  :o. My only question is how does one access the equipment menu? I don't see any button or option in the UI to go there. Oh, and lmao at Daybreak's use of server names and chat -- very realistic.
Title: Re: Everything else UI
Post by: Daybreak on July 18, 2007, 03:17:57 AM
First, thanks Spekkio for the compliments. It's a combined work of mine, seefoo's and tigaer's ideas into one.

Second, the equipment menu while not in game is under the Profile screen. Once in game you'd see the profile tab at the top, as well as a change equipment button on the screen. I purposely left out the in game lobby screen because it's pretty much done in another thread. There's not much more to add or subtract from.

Third, the server names and chat text was done by seefoo. His ability to capture the real experience is what makes him and his skill invaluable.

Last but not least, these aren't the final UI screens. Just my proposal and my attempt at putting as many of the ideas that have been displayed in the multiple forums.

Wait a minute, did I just hear that you could change your equipment in game?  If you can, I hope it is like DA's, but you can choose more than one freakn gadget.  God I hate DA...  >:(

Anyways, it looks good.  I think the icons need a bit more work but other than that it looks pretty gooo

I added the merc in a couple of layouts. I always favoured my layout, but it's probably because I'm biased. I just need better looking Icons.

PS. The Green for spy and Blue for Merc looks wicked awesome.

Looks nice and I prefer the hexagon shaped background at the top and bottom as opposed to the middle.

I dont want to burn your boat but we already have Seefoo and Tigaer on the dev team working on the design.

according to the Lennard's site Seefoo is no longer in team.

I know they are on, but I wanted to include it for my own personal folder. Looks more complete with the merc now. Plus they probably know more about stuff than I do.
I wasn't exactly sure what was decided on that.

Well goes to show you how reliable info can be from third parts sources that aren't directly on this website.  ;)

I actually have no idea.
