Title: Off-Topic-New Keyboard
Post by: B1nArY_001 on October 05, 2007, 09:32:41 PM
Ok so this is massively off-topic but as there is a good collection of gamers here and I wanted to get some feedback about the Logitech G-15. All the reviews are good but very limited beyond saying in essence "The macros rock! The LCD is cool!".

I am currently using a Razer Tarantula which provides excellent functionality but after about 6 months I have just not been able to get comfortable with the key layout and still to this day hit the wrong keys when I get in a jam. Any comments or recommendations would be welcome... Thanks!

if i remember correctly you complained about off-topic stuff in this forum, so how about deleting this thread and post it on scl?
oh and for gods sake, why would anyone reasonable spend more than 20 bucks on a keyboard (razer and logitech fanboys any1)?

I didn't complain about off-topic stuff. I posted asking people not to FLAME and not to DE-RAIL a thread. This thread is specifically about the topic and in the public forum. Now if everyone has a major issue with this and feels I should not be asking the people who obviously play mostly the same game I do (I.E. Chaos Theory) then I would be more than happy to remove the thread.

I did :P

It roxors :), what does? well:
- The backgroudn lighting (blue!, it's so good when gaming, in the full dark, and only the keys and your screen is lighten up, you can control intensity)
- the LCD screen (usefull in some games, but it's mostly in CPU tracking mode, in time mode or Media Player mode, though, it's very extendable... You can write addons for it in like any language - including vb6).
- The keys are softkeys (the feel real soft, unlike a regular keyboard).
- You have an anti-windows function switch (turn it on, and you will never WINDOW + D, or Alt+tab out of a game anymore).
- On-the-fly macro recording (total of 18*3 and every game/program can have hes own profile - with 18*3 keys to spare -).
- Media Key controls (can be used in a lot of media players)
- It has 2 USB ports in it (easy when need to plugin your USB stick).
- It's USB 2.0 (works on 1.0 and 1.1 aswell).
- You can put the hand-stance on it so you can rest your pulse/wrist on it.
- You can customize it to your needs with the easy-to-use software which has a good support.
- the 18 * 3 G-keys that can do anything you want (bind programs to it, profiles, macros, etc.).

A couple of downsides in my opinion:
- You have to cover it good at times you don't use it to prevent it from getting dusty (i use a regular towel).
- The keys (like any other keyboard) get dirty real quick, though, you can pop out all keys with a screwdriver to clean them with some Glasex (some kind of spray to clean almost everything) Note: I did this and I can confirm the keyboard still works 100% without any broken or ugly looking keys.
- Not a lot of games support the LCd, which is a shame (though, there is a good community for homebrew apps).
- Not all games allow the Sendmessage method they use for Macro's (though, you can bind a custom macro program to the keys so that it will use an other method).

Edit: There are 2 versions of the G15, one with blue lightninh (v1) and orange lightning (v2). I recommend choosing the v1, since it has more functionality (and its even cheaper than v2). You can see the difference here: http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1236843 (dutch forum, but its about the images)

Just my 2 cents.

Edit 2: Xfire has a plugin for the LCd, you can browse every msg that has been sended to you in the LCD.

I have a G-15. I don't rub it with a towel tho. Don't need to. Have spilled water on it. Warranty saved me there. It works well. I don't use it for CT at all, but it does well for some other games. Its a nice keyboard man. I recommend.

Lol, I don't rub it with a towel, I put the towel over it at times I don't use it, so that the dust-collection is pulled to a minimum.

LOL! Get a PS2 keyboard, instead of the crappy USBs..

USB = max 6 keys at once
PS2 = max 7 keys at once

(not all combinations)

With USB you are not able to play O2Mania! >.<
See me play that game here: http://www.treesoft.dk/o2mania :P

you are joking right? all my old PS/2 keyboards could only get 3 keys at once max

how the hell can you press down 6 keys at once with one hand anyway?

I too want to be a G15 keyboard. I ALMOST did the other day, but it seemed kinda pricey, and I wasn't sure if it was worth it for all those features.

Where is the best deal for this keyboard? As in... where can I buy the cheapest?

me too. All i have to do is push a button for a move. Kind of like using the rest of the keyboard, but downsizing to just digits

Did you know that the brain can handle more than 98 million more informations per second than the fastest super computer in the world?!?!???

It's estimated to be as fast as a Pentium 1680Ghz Processor!

Fast doesnt equal power. There are 'PC' running @ 500MHz which would pwn your Pentium 3GHz with ease.
Also see AMD's design, based on multiple instructions per clocktick, vs Intel's crave for speed.

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ ~2.2Ghz

And I'm talking about the brain!

Think about it... It can process 100 million INFORMATIONS PER SECOND!

Even more off topic now...

While a human can easily be compared to a computer, there is no chance that a computer could ever work better than a human. There is perfection in some senses, but my computer wouldn't do what was morally right for it if it needed to. lol. come on guys. This should be on the lamers site

"Computers are only as smart as the people who programmed them."

Until we have an independant AI which can deduct and learn by itself then Computers cannot surpass humans.

Uhh, wherever you got that info, it's most certainly wrong.

Your brain is more comparable to a 10-20 hertz (not a typo) processor with several billion cores.

And just because it can handle more information, doesnt mean that most of it is thrown out before it reaches the higher brain. Autistic people do not have this ability, and constantly suffer from sensory overload.

People are just better at certain tasks, and computers just are better at others.

Computers are good at doing repetitive work really fast, so recursively playing out all the possible moves in a checkers game to find the best move is a piece of cake. In fact, checkers was solved earlier this year, and there is a version you can play online that's literally impossible to beat.

People, on the other hand are excellent at pattern recognition, while computers generally suck at it. That's why captchas are so widely used. Things like telling the difference between a dog and a cat in a photograph are laughably easy for humans, yet ridiculously hard for a computer to do.

The gap between human ability and computer ability isn't getting any larger though. Not long from now, computers will be able to do all the things a human can do; most likely faster and more accurately as well.

each cell=1 core

There is already serious research into creating  organic computers because they have the potential to be much more powerful.

Electromagnetic reations are much faster and more realiable than chemical ones.

Chemical reactions take several orders of magnitude longer, compared to electrons firing across transistors.

I wouldnt trust a mission-critical applicationg to run on wetware. The only advantages with them is that they have the potential to be cheaper and provide a much easier way to parallel process.

The brain is basically like a shitload of dead-slow processors that are linked unrealiably and die all the time. When you communicate across one pathway, you can't guarantee that it will still be there a few moments from then.

The brain is basically like a shitload of dead-slow processors that are linked unrealiably and die all the time. When you communicate across one pathway, you can't guarantee that it will still be there a few moments from then.

The only time a pathway is changed it is to circumvent damage. The only time brain cells die is when you are exposed to head trauma, extreme oxygen deprivation and/or substances that kill braincells. Your brain also possesses the ability to create new pathways for circumventing damage and is even capable of re-creating a damaged brain function in a new area of the brain. The brain is also capable of incredible storage capacity. Take your average person's memory for example, they can recall just about any image, audio, smell, taste or tactile association within their lifetime.

Then there are the individuals who have the ability to use more of the brain than your average person. To even pretend we have even a clue what a brain is truly capable of is pretty foolish.

Edit: Grammar

It is amazing how much your brain can heal itself. Severe head trauma is one thing, but using substances that destroy brain cells - there is hope. Your brain does in deed repair/replicate its cells. This is a good thing for those dope users: If you can break your addiction, you can recover nicely. Granted, If you destroy patches and patches of brain cells then it will be a long healing process (years I'm talking). Can your computer repair itself? "ANT1V1RU5 SC4N STUP1D H34D!!@@" Nothing like what your brain can do.

We should probably stop talking about this though. Actually we should kill this thread to stay on task.
