Title: Coder
Post by: Xris on December 20, 2007, 06:08:53 AM
As far as I can tell there are not very many, unless they are part of the orginal production team that did not have to be voted in.  I've been coding / programming for almost 5 years now.

Main languages:
VB/C#.net
asp.net
C++
Java/JavaScript/CSS
XML/XLS/XHTML
Edit: SQL/MySql/Oracle

can not think of anything else off the top of my head.

Also I have my MCSD.net (for those that do not know what that is, it's Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer Certificate)

Lastly right now I am technically in school, although I am starting a co-op term, once that is over I start my summer term were I will have have three or more C++ classes including directx.  Ooh and I have been playing SC since the begining and have always loved it, I would also have to agree that CT was the best and DA (was just as bad on the 360) totaly bombed.

Well we agree about the SC series, that's a start. We could always use more talent, especially in scripting. We currently have about 4 scriptors, with only three having access to the engine.

Do you have work you can show us?

Do you have any experience with Unreal Engine and or Unreal Script?

What is your availability like to work on the project?

I can send you some work I did this past term, its all offline stuff. (I'll try and get it up tomorrow, heading to bed ...)
Unfortunately I haven't had any experience with the unreal engine / script but i'm sure I could pick it up.
And availability wise is pretty good, of course everyone is slammed this week because of Christmas, but come the new year I can probably put in a good 4-6 hours a night, and a bunch of time on the weekends.
Also just a suggestion if the whole unreal thing doesn't work, not sure how far we are along, we could always try XNA, which would let us do a PC and XBOX 360 version that can work together ... just a thought.

Damn frvge, what the fuck is it with the: "You already post this message" error?

----

Hi,

I'm Lennard, one of the (lead? :P) programmers within the team. To let you know, I'm voted in, same counts for BakerCo and Mulle (dunno about Overstatement).

Anyway, I really appreciate you wanna join up with us.

But to be honest, I'm not really waiting for another programmer (the more we get, the harder it will be to keep on top of things, even frvge is going to join up as coder, which makes the total 5). Though, I would like to see some of your work and also some kind of Unreal thing (perhaps I even let you do a trial, don't know yet).

I'm going to discuss this internally.

Lennard

I really don't see how more can be bad but hey, I do meshes and textures not coding..

Hey look! Another programmer with a basic understanding of C++ (judging from the need to take more C++ classes). That's like our third.

I live in Toronto.

Yeah just post some things. It's all about voting internally really, no one is really a "lead" of decisions, regardless of how it may seem.  ;)

Post some work, and maybe try out a script or two in the Unreal 2 Runtime. See if it something you would be able to get the hang of or not.

I wouldn't say its basic knowledge, those other classes will expendand it more.  One is directx using C++, another is OO Analysis & Modeling and the third is Data Structures & Algorithms.

Here is a program I made during this term: http://rapidshare.com/files/77946425/SharpEditor.zip.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/77946425/SharpEditor.zip.html)
Its a text editor somewhat like wordpad.
I have a few other programs that I was going to send however I realized that you would need the back end DB, I think it would be best for me and you, to see how I am, if I did some work with unreal.  Any ideas?

would u like me to zip the whole solution??

I was just going to read it, not compile it.

I remember when I was in Grade 11 coop. Just learnt C++ in my spare time and read a lot of Windows API during coop. Eventally, made a picture viewer without any kind of helper classes (like what you did), just plain Window functions. Had to screw manually with resource files (couldn't find a visual resource editor), respond to window messages and draw with GDI. If I still had my source code, I'd probably laugh at myself for the number of mistakes I probably made.

Edit: Actually, I can think of one now. I used paint functions during WM_PAINT. Yeah, apparently you aren't suppose to do that...

If you are still looking for some kind of Unreal project to do, pick any handful of minor things that could be used for Project Stealth. Just some random ideas off the top of my head

Proxy Mine (that explodes only under certain conditions like in SC)

Presence Detector (like in multiplayer)

Merc Camera network

etc etc. lol These are all just some examples of things that can be done in the Runtime (or UT3) that don't require any real direct framework from our end.  :)

I don't care. You seem to be on par with most of our other programmers. iservealot just says these things because he's not a programmer and can't read your source code. Lennard doesn't want anymore programmers because I yell at him too much? I don't know. Some reason.

I'll see what I can do with Unreal, you prolly wont hear from me too much more til after boxing day tho, lots o shopping still to do and all the other crazy christmas stuff.  Just so you know this isn't high school co-op this is college. I'm in 2nd year of this course, this is the second course I have taken.  The one before this was only a 1 year course and this is a 3yr.  Yea, I kinda wish I could show you my other project, I can prolly send you some code.  Its a 4-tier system, and uses remoting, it was really cool.

Well, knowing the values of variables and using them carefully is an advantage.
eg. bunny-hopping in CS:S.

It's nothing personal really... Do I look like someone who takes yelling personally  ::)

Anyway, we don't need another programmer at the moment. But we would like to keep you on hold in case things are really going out of hand :P

Thanks for your appliance and just to let you know: we really appreciate it.

Lennard.

Edit: Don't waste your time on iservealots request yet ;)

"n00b" isn't even one of the two values you assigned.  :D

Let that be a lesson to the rest of you who posts "code" to be clever.

maybe im in vb mode but if you put in quotes its not a variable but the value duh? but i could be very very wrong, just chillax it was ment to be serious and FusionSlayer seems like he knows a lot and im just jking with you.  Without peeps like him we wont have PS.

Again let me stress i dont really code nor do i think im good at coding  i preffer doing things in  photoshop by far and i can do stuff in Dreamweaver.

But if you need someone to makesomething in vb I'm your man!!!*

*i know vb has no point and is extremely easy, just jking.

Cleaned up a bit.

Don't listen to Lennard yet btw. Nothing has been decided yet.

just want to mention that holidays are setting in and some people are afk,  so we are organizing a task list to see where we can fit you in.  Now that the team is full,  we are starting to do the real work, which means management needs to get on top of everything and find the loose ends.

Fusion, in order to get organized internally, we decided to postpone new applications till the second half of January. In case we decide we need a new programmer earlier, we'll contact you.

For now, thanks for the interest. I suggest you put a 'notify' on this thread so you get an email when this thread is updated. Or even better: visit sometimes :)
