Poll
Question:
Shall Gawain be banned for his behavior?
Option 1: Yes
Option 2: No
Pretty much self-explanatory. You should all know him and his actions quite wel; if not, we'd have a fine, recent example right here (http://www.projectstealthgame.com/index.php/topic,739.135.html).
I for one am sick of that, so I'm going to start this poll.
You might want to change the now option to no. Unless that's what you meant lol
I don't think that he should be banned. I DO think that he needs to change his fucking attitude. If this poll doesn't give him a clue that we are tired of his shit then I don't know what would.
Woah .. thanks for reporting that, now it's correct. ;)
Besides the fact that he gets personal with PS, hes a good guy.
He doesn't need to be banned.
Well, I think he's a retard and IMO he should be given help instead of exclusion.
Know my good heart, I vote no.
Just so you guys know, you'll need a considerable amount of votes. Almost all active members have to vote.
I agree that sometimes his attitude just sucks but banning is too much.
I have no quarrel with him.
As far as I know, Gawain is the guy that got PS promoted for MOTY 2007

Another reason of why he shouldn't be banned.
It is good to see that, at least so far, this board values free speech over personal quarrels.
There is no 100% free speech here, since I sometimes have to edit, lock, or even delete, but it's like 99.99%. Which is quite a lot and considerably more than other forums.

Yes, I am not too happy with the deletion of certain posts a while back - but as you said, more than most.
Gawain and I have our disagreements and though I think the tone of his posts could be a bit more diplomatic, that's just who he is. He can be a bit annoying at times but let's face it, anyone here has the potential to be annoying to someone else and that is absolutely not a reason to ban someone. If he had NEVER done anything constructive and was a total ass I might consider voting yes, but that is not the case and this looks more like a personal matter and a rather childish act in my opinion so to that end - No.
Edit: I've also played several games of CT with him and I would have to agree with previous statements that he's not a bad guy at all. Seemed like a pretty chill dude to me...

QFT
I haven't really had the chance to talk with him or play CT with him. Some of his post are out in left field or go over the edge, but I have seen some very constructive posts from him, as well as papa and vega. Sometimes the three of you just need to chill out and stop bashing each other.
My vote is no.
I didn't mean to vote yes. I even said in my first post that I didn't want him banned. He should take this into consideration, however, since most people seem to think that he should stop being so over the edge and elitist.
I can admit that I've gone over the top. Maybe defended my opinions for too long, but hey, that's who I am. I am very opinionated and I'll go to great lengths to make sure people understand where I come from. And I can see that Gawain is who he is too. I've come to live with it. But we should, including me, just chill out and have better conversations with eachother. Meaning it shouldn't end with the words noob, idiot, or console sucks.
The only people I think who should be banned are Ray Mysterio, Reason3d, Dimz, etc etc etc....
;D
I'll go out on a limb here and point out the obvious - If you don't like someone's post you don't have to reply! By deciding not to reply it doesn't mean the other person "wins". It's just a matter of realizing a flame does not have to injure your pride if you so choose. If you don't like someone and are never going to get along then just ignore them!

Him being "some kind of good person"... Does make it ok that he's a complete asshole to people!?
don't be blinded by some sort of twisted chivalry. Dicks like him should be put where they belong: Back in their hole. LOL
He's been a jerk to me ever since my first post here. Ban him. >:(
oh, and on another note, You guys that keep voting no, may like him in a way, but that will only push him to be that much more of an asshole. And he'll use that in the future.

Yea, unless you happen to be smurfing and join his laggy-ass 200+ ping server to play with some random whoever. Then he just berates you for being a n00b and bans you when he wins because you couldn't get all 8 kills in terrible playing conditions when your partner's sporting a tazer and wandering around some far corner of museum not knowing what's going on.
His attitude sucks and he probably deserves a good punch in the mouth, but ban? Nope.

I never said that I like him. I'd still vote no though... I am starting to live with the fact that he's an asshole, just like he should live with the fact that not everyone thinks like him and stop calling other people noobs because of it. Just like he should live with the fact that I'm pretty opinionated and that I don't roll over and agree with people that easily.

True story man.
No ban, just needs to tone it down a bit.
Alright.
I think starting that thread already showed him something.
btw. some of you kind of misunderstood my intention, it's not that I really have a quarrel with him, heck, I only know him from a few posts here in the forums. It's just that I don't like his attitude towards some, especially new people in here, which should be taken care of from the first second they join us and not be frightened by some flaming gimp. :P
the thing with posts from certain people is that one could bash 90% of them like vega did. it's especially sad that old extensively discussed topics come up again. but you're right that there's no use to answer them when i'm too lazy to repeat or explain everything and just become angry about their ignorance.
new people should use the search function before discussing old topics and shouldn't raise their voice if they have no idea of svm.
i'm really sorry if i kicked spekkio or westfall (or some other vet) smurfing me, but i couldn't know that it was them and they surely didn't mention that they're from another continent. i just think that playing with big lag or worse players is a waste of time, and probably other really bad players joined before so i was already shirty.
there's a simple solution though: just xfire me and/or play with real acc next time. i'm always up for ggs, but often it's impossible because of lag.
Quoteshouldn't raise their voice if they have no idea of svm.
That statement is wrong sir. You bring it as that only people that played SvM have the right to speak. That's not true, since we are completely in for new additions to the game that have never been in SvM, some of the original ideas come from people who never played any SvM.
Stop bashing people saying they can only speak when they know what they're talking about, or I'll bash you in the ground 10 times harder.
That's the elisist shit I'm talking about right there.
this project's goal is to cl**e ct's gameplay on a later engine with better net code, fix bugs, fine tune the balance and create new maps, or did i get something wrong??
tell me one good idea from noobs in ct that you are going to implement in ps (talking about gameplay/balance, not about lobby sys etc)...
You got something wrong.
The gameplay will differ. The main ideas are the same, but there will be small changes.

According to you, Papa Skull was a noob (note: Not my words, cause I don't know), but he's the one that came up with a lot of ideas (latest addition: Dead bodies staying). And how about the millions of gadget requests...?
We never ever said we would implement an idea, but try or see if it is worth implementing. Let noobs speak if they wish, we only take "reasonable" ideas in consideration, if they come to here and say: "ZOMG! WE NEED FRIKKING UT3 LIKE DM MODES WITH MERCS THAT HAVE SPY POWERS!" or "SVM SUCKS! CREATE A COD4 MOD NOOBS!" do you think we even take the time to answer those or think about it?

@Gawain:
You can't expect us to completely copy Ubisofts game.
At first, they sue our asses, second, they sue our asses a second time.
Yes, the gameplay will be the same, as will the main idea behind the game. But there will be different gametypes, different types of servers (perhaps Hack-glove servers), we are not going to not implement those things because Gawain doest't like it.
You seem to forget that we are the Dev-team and that it's our game...
Ofcourse we listen to what the community has to say (real actively to be honest, I check the forums daily and reply to where I feel a reply is needed), but we decide what goes in and what not. Thank you very much.
you joined a project with a clear mission...
i have nothing against a mode similar to scda, but i vehemently defend the ct one. i can't imagine that folks like mr.mic, seefoo, element54, binary, guy_brazil etc want to make dramatic changes...
besides, now you're the one being arrogant: what gives you the right to decide what goes in?? you totally lack any ct experience, and i really wonder about your motivation to do this work at all; maybe for university i dunno but for some players like me this game is very important. this project doesn't want to create something totally new, it's goal is to jump in where ubi didn't. it's for the people that love the ct svm gameplay, and you didn't even play it for more then some hours.
Lennard, you scare me. You sound like those Ubi-devs. Stop phrasing your sentences like that. ktnxbai.
exactly :D
Why in the hell would anybody wanna make a clone of CT SvM? Sure there are things about it that are better. But take the opportunity to make something different.
Gawain. You are a complete asshole, and you really need to get off these forums. I'm been here a couple of weeks and you've been asshole enough to be banned 10 times over. Your lucky your not on MY forums. Because NO website/forum needs this kind of unrest. This is a developer forum, for us to leave feedback, give ideas. And you're cocking the whole thing up with your shitty attitude.
Well, in the end, the devs are the ones with the job of making the final decisions, and they ultimately have to like those decisions, because they're the ones who have to take their free time to code the thing. While each of us has our vision of what the game should be like, ultimately we can only give them suggestions. The fact is that none of us are actually paying the devs, they're doing it for free. So the game is theirs to make great or screw up.
Hopefully, they take the suggestions that they fit within their paradigm of gameplay and don't get too extreme in changing the core gameplay. But really they do have a lot of suggestions out there to filter.
I can't get over the hypocrisy here. People want a change but they're still afraid of changes.
They want us to change what Ubisoft did wrong, but they don't want us to make noticable changes.

There's nothing wrong with my motivation:
- Learning cue
- Portfolio
- I love stealth games
- I want to try working in a team
- I want to use Project Stealth as example of what I'm capable of in the gaming industries if it comes that far.
- I'm perfectionistic
- It's a test for myself to see what I can make out of all the suggestions and ideas (including mine).

The game PS is a complete change. It takes aspects that come from past games, plus new ideas, modified gadgets, better maps, and UT3 engine. The mistakes Ubisoft did will be corrected. Most of it is in the programming and what needs to be tweaked from the Splinter Cell series and applied correctly to PS.
Can you throw any examples out there so I can straighten it up for you?
Just take a look at every topic in which people try to give new ideas. Notice "Prince's of BS" reactions in almost every of them. It is obvious that when people try to suggest new ideas, theyre usually far from being balanced, uncompleted, may not be understood in the first moments. It is sad that "some" of us dont understand it. I can see fright that something could be wrong, not perfect, that something would change the gameplay, create new possibilities.

But then again, we are the devs, we got actual access to the sourcecode of the game, Whenever something is wrong/bad/unbalanced/disliked, we can remove/edit it. We couldn't with CT.

yeah... ppl are taking every change proposition personnaly.
the only change they are rdy to accept is one than would help their game play or nerf the a gameplay that they don't like (ex: Stealth Vs Aggro, Shooty vs Uzi vs Sniper, Visons user vs no-vision user etc.)
On a other hand, I'm not sure exacly what is the Production Teams Goal(s)... (Ex: to improve versus mode or create a new game(''mod'') inspired for the SplinterCell series). Maybe if you(dev) wrote a thread on what will be PS and it's connection with the SplinterCell series, it's could settle ppl in their rightfull place....
Since if there is anynone that should take PS personnaly it's the Production Team and no-one else... we should just be grateful that they made the effort of creating this forum to share their work and ask for our opinions...
All stuff like that is in the Mission Statement in the Information forum.
If I understand well Ps is Ct + New gaget + new moves + new graphiques right? Like from Pt to Ct... not like Ct to Da
There's nothing wrong with PS wanting to do it's own thing. Why make a copy of CT, when you can make the perfect SvM 'Hybrid". Mainly to not get their asses sued off.
And Gawain. I had every RIGHT to the moment I make my first post and you mocked it. Why cant you be civil. As far as I'm concerned, you can take your beloved CT and bury yourself with it. Stay away from PS. It has NO room for the likes of YOU

And the bugs will be gone, and it will be more balanced. Not sure if there will be new gadgets or new moves. I was hoping to get a PT to CT kind of sequel, with better changes and fixes. CT to DA was horrendous, wasn't even the same game anymore. But it looks to me like a fixed up chrome finished version of CT with little or no new features. Which in all honesty isn't so bad. I'm sure I'll be happy with it even without so much new features, but I'd love it even more with more stuff than CT had.
I think that Gawain will realize that over 1/4 of the whole forum would like to see him banned, and that over 3/4 thinks he should tone down his attitude a lot. Take this into consideration Gawain. I'll be a little less opinionated if you start being a little less of an asshole.

Learn new stuff after 1000+ hours? What like completely minor things that don't have a real impact on gameplay? The reason I want new features is for more variety, so the fun lasts longer. Sure, it still is a fun game. I'd rather have more gadgets and features, so that means there would be a longer learning curve. What makes you think that someone who sucks at the game would want a longer learning curve? If someone sucks they are going to suggest making a noob friendly game like DA, not one with even more depth and stuff to learn. With new gadgets and features, it will open up way more possibilities for learning the game.
if you think i care about the people that don't want me here, you're wrong. why should i care about the opinion of people that i consider retards?

As long as they are here, the progress of PS can and will be hindered.
30 votes, 10 for banning, 20 against. I wanted to go till 40-50 votes, but that probably takes too long.
Gawain will not be banned. However, he should note that he should change his behavior. The same goes for Papa Skull and to a lesser extent, Hybrid Circle and Cyntrox. Callling eachother names while criticizing them for doing that is a bit... childish and lame.
