Title: Off topic section
Post by: Wanted_David on January 27, 2008, 09:05:41 PM
Hi. Somehow I was searching for parkour related games on google and stumbled on this game. Looks kinda cool, actually. Here are the only screenshots to this day.

You should check out a game called saboteur.  It's a parkour game set during ww2.

Saboteur is somewhat a little weird, I mean...parkour in WW2? Could be interesting, but a little weird... Oh, and it's not coming for the PC, so.... :S

Can you add a off topic section in the forum so others dont have to register/go all the way to SCL to talk about non ps related stuff? Just makes it easier :P.

Post by: frvge on April 23, 2008, 07:19:35 PM
There are plenty of forums where you can go off-topic. We'd prefer if people would use one of those for off-topicness.
The team is divided, but there's a majority for no-off-topic-forum. Sorry.

Can...can we make a poll ;D

We had a poll already in the Dev section, and while it was close, the No to off-topic section won. Thus decision made.

How about making the SCL icon bigger and more in the center of the page?
Or even add an Offtopic forum that would link to SCL (instead of making one here).

qfe
but i still think most people wouldn't like sclamers and wouldn't be welcome there anyways, so you may want to reconsider the off-topic idea once the game gets a larger player base.

If you dont mind, can we have some reasons as to why some of the devs didnt want an off topic section?
Title: Re: Off topic section
Post by: Tidenburg on April 24, 2008, 05:13:04 PM
Most likely they think it'll detract from other sections and distract the developers.

The off-topic section would be of no importance to the devs though.

Everyone here is interested in PS. There's no need for OT, because it distracts. If you want to talk about other stuff, use one of the few already OT-topics.

Rules:
- it won't get stickied
- no bumping (as in a message saying "bump", duh).
- no flamewars

Try to make it the longest lasting topic ever which jumps from subject to subject. I once saw one that was 210 pages long, so have fun ^^.

Sweet, I haven't made new topics, I just keep using this one  :D

Anyways who went and got GTA4??  I did for 360, cause we all know that these kind of games are made for console and not PC.  I say this, because with these kinds of games you just want to sit back on the couch and relax infront of the big tv, and fuck some shit up in the city.

San Andreas was garbage on PC...

I'll hopefully pick it up later.

And Lennard, I thought you said off topic topics were okay but the goal was to keep them going as long as possible, all with random posts and such.  Maybe your post was sarcastic but it didn't seem like it.

Ah, I hate GTA4. It's so addictive after you finish the first 20 minutes of the game. The whole system has been completely redone and the realism with which the citizens react to all the shit going on around them is great, the game uses Euphoria instead of ragdolls so the car crashes and being hit by cars in general is all dynamic and looks awesome. Where im up to in the career the shit has really just hit the fan, I only planned to do this one mission I was playing but emerged 3 hours later from my living room because I needed food :P

Its a love/hate relationship.

Yes, the Euphoria engine is awesome, I "accidentally" hit a person on a motorbike last night, and he went flying, also, ramping boats of the docks is really funny, and the helicopter flying is awesome. (This was all in multiplayer last night, I'm not too far in the campaign atm.)

I made a tripping and headshot animation in Endorphin, which uses the technique they used in GTA4 to create the random death when hitting with cars :P

I think it could be a nice idea.
What about having a rappel hook only for the mercs. Quick, easy to use and you could use it anywhere but it's for downfall only, to for climbing. The ability to climb should remain for the Spy only. So you would have to stuck your hook to a wall and go where you want. The physics will automatically interact with the hook user if he jump down somewhere. This includes the the mercs jump higher enough to passe over a few things.

Having this kind of rappel hook gives more opportunity for the gameplay and improve the flow of the game. In DA by example, the mercs could use specific rappel lines... it becomes quickly repetitive.

Well, it's just an idea ^^ like many many others.

Project Stealth mostly takes part in the inside of buildings (like Lakehouse), the only place you would be able to do any kind of walldode would be in the main hall and dock (and no crazy spy would walk right in the open there). All other rooms are rather to low in height to do one.

I was using a lot the wall-flip move. If you take back an example of the old Club House, there is many areas inside the building where you can perform that kind of move, but this is my style... not yours so I can't tell if Wall-Dodge would really be useful for everybody.

The flip is an other technique than the dodge. Dodge basicly bumps you off the wall quite a distance, the maps don't offer you that room. While the wall-flip is upwards and not as far as a dodge, besides, we probsbly make it to only work when you have to room for it (so no wall-flip in small spots).

The signature move of our new emo Sam is: throwing people into junk food restaurant! Say no to fast food [actually in the screens it's coffee but..  who really carees >>> just say no to fast food oky!?  ;D]

Oky just kidding...
If you haven't heard about Conviction, it's unlike the last SPlinter Cell, it's not about hidding in shadows anymore and it looks a lot more like a new Jason Bourne or Solid Snake. More action oriented I guess... What is happening with the multiplayer is a total mystery and with the new Splinter Cell Concept would just give a completely different Multiplayer style OR they could also go back at the old style... I just don't know.

But whatever Splinter Cell became, it looks awesome and I can't wait to play it. I'm a huge fan of the franchise and even if they changed the key Concept, I never hated having more action.

* Crowd in Multiplayer: Play with, or against, your friends in the middle of a civilian crowd. But know that they will look like any other person, so your sense of observation and ability to act unnoticed are as important as reacting instantly to an unexpected threat.

That looked like a fun game.  Although, I think it might suffer sales wise because sadly a lot of people are scared off by playing a girl and would rather play as a beefy biker kind of dude.  I'll give it a shot though, probably a rental.

Quote* Crowd in Multiplayer: Play with, or against, your friends in the middle of a civilian crowd. But know that they will look like any other person, so your sense of observation and ability to act unnoticed are as important as reacting instantly to an unexpected threat.

Oh, wow.  Nothing like looking for some guy that can walk the same speed as civilians/looks like civilians in a crowd of civilians.  Not to mention the fact that once one guy blows his cover the other guy has to blow his cover to take him down, there is no such thing as stealth kills online anymore.  This can't really be the same Montreal that brought us CT...

...Hey!  You know what?  There's a concert going on downtown!  I can go sift through the crowd!  How excited I am!  A reason I loved the other games is because I could do some cool shit that you can't do in real life.

Yea, I think that statement is total BS... Like I care if I'm playing as a girl or boy. Most guys I know from Medal of Honor play with Manon, a French resistance girl, in Multiplayer. And I enjoy Tomb Raider and not because of the ever growing boobs.

Tomb Raider.

Good point.

My Response:  Boobs

I guess Lennard just doesn't like boobs and bought it for gameplay. ooooooo  :D

Of course that was all a joke, but have you seen DA online lately?  I have seen no one use the Female skin, and it's not that bad.  Why?  I don't know, maybe people think women are weak and should leave fighting to the men. But those are the narrow minded people eh?

Hi all,
I found another great mod for UT3. Its named Snowreal and it's a snowboarding mod. There are a few bugs but it's still very fun. Hope you'll download it :)

Maybe I'll post a video of me doing snowboard later ^^

QuoteSnowreal

Note:
Some people are having problems running the PC version. Please make sure NOT TO USE the "-useunpublished" parameter when starting UT3. This prevents Snowreal from showing you the maps in the menu. If you start UT3.exe without any paramters, your problem will hopefully be fixed.
If that doesn't help you, don't worry, contact us per email or on the epicgames forum and we will be glad to help.

Version: v1.0
Date: May 23, 2008
Author: Michael Buettner, aka Squizmek (squizmek@gmail.com)
Maps: Squizmek, Max_Damage, Marilol
URL: snowreal.blogspot.com

Install:
------------------
On PC: Unpack the .rar into C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\
and override folders if asked to.
On PS3: Copy the USERDATA.JAM on a USB stick, put it into your PS3, start UT3 and import the mod.

Play:
------------------
Start UT3 and select Snowreal as gametype.
Select a map and you're ready to go! Disable bots as they're not supported yet.

Rules:
------------------

To choose RACING MODE:
Set the Scorelimit to 0.
Once the Timelimit is reached, the one with the best time for the parcours wins.

To start a TRICK COMPETITION:
Set the Scorelimit to something higher than 0. The game is over as soon as a player reaches
the Scorelimit or the Timelimit is reached. You should set the Scorelimit to something high like 1000!

Tricks:
------------------
Hold your 'Duck' key (crouch) and release it to start a trick jump. While in the air, hold a direction
and press a mousebutton/shoot key(L1,R1). You can also combine this with spins. To do so,
hold 'Left' or 'Right' down while you start the trick jump.
-You can combine grabs with spins.
-You can combine forward and backward flip with a spin. Just start the flip right after takeoff!
-Press a mousebutton/shoot key without holding any direction for additional tricks.
-Do not skip a flip, or you will fall! Hold your firebutton pressed until the flip is done, then release!

Maps:

SR-WhiteSlope - by Squizmek
SR-SnowballRun - by Max_Damage

I'm not the creator of this mod, all credit goes to Squizmek, Max_Damage and marilol.

Tbh with you, I always thought Kebab started it with all the praise he gets and how everyone always talks about Kebab in such high esteem.  It's well deserved yes, but it makes him seem like the starter of the project to me and I'm guessing to other people as well.

Kebab has the most experience in the games industry. And he's just really cool.
